ELIZABETH ANNA SREDNICKI

SANFORD — Elizabeth Anna Srednicki, 93, of Sanford, died Wednesday (5/7/14) at her home.

She was born on July 4, 1920, in Germany to the late Wilhelm and Marie Schmidt. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Srednicki Jr.

She is survived by one son, Frank Srednicki of Sanford; two daughters, Bridget Smiley of Alexandria, Va., and Ruth Burk of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Saturday from 12 to 12:30 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home. A service will also be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Miller-Boles Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at LaFayette Memorial Park Cemetery across from the VA Hospital in Fayetteville.

GLENNIE BATTEN ROGERS

SANFORD — Glennie Batten Rogers, 82, of Sanford, died Wednesday (5/7/14) at Sanford Health and Rehab.

She was born in Wilson County, daughter of the late James Thomas Batten and Molly Ann Creech Batten. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Cloyce C. Rogers, Cpt-USAR.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Robbie Douglas and the Rev. John Taylor officiating.

She is survived by her son, Steve D. Rogers (Andrea) of Sanford, and brother, Ray Tedder (Sadie) of Wilson.

ALLEN EDWARD WHITTED

LILLINGTON — Allen Edward Whitted, 58, of Lillington, died Wednesday (5/7/14) at the Durham VA Medical Center.

He was born in Texas, son of the late Emerson Earl Whitted and Elizabeth Darden Whitted.

Funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Father Robert Ippolito officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with military honors.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Whitted; son, Stacey Allen Whitted of Lillington; sister, Nadine Whitted of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brothers, Shane Whitted of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Cecil Whitted of Harlem; and one granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., one hour prior to the funeral service at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.

CARTHAGE — Jimmy Mitchell Jr., 44, of 260 Husley Road, Carthage, died Monday (5/5/14).

He is survived by his mother, Geneva Katherine Judd; father, Jimmy Lewis Mitchell; wife, Pamela Mitchell; sisters, Brenda Mitchell and Karen Mitchell; brothers, James Lee Judd (Martha), Lewis Mitchell and Tony Mitchell; children, Laquana Prince (Matt), Sedarius Quick and Jimmy Mitchell; stepchildren, Sybil Dowd, Tawanda Dowd and Teresa Dowd; sisters-in-law, Wanda Morgan (James) and Jenus Campbell (Buddie); and brothers-in-law, A.C. Raye, Clifton (Shirley) and Spencer Dowd.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Carthage. Burial will follow at Stone Chapel F.W.B. Church Cemetery in Carthage.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Annie H. Matthews was held Sunday at Pocket Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Dudley officiating.

Cindy Hayes was pianist.

Following the funeral, a graveside service was held at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dennis Matthews, Jonathan Matthews, Justin Serrano, Jordan Serrano, Dale Matthews and Adam Bass.

HAROLD SEABROOK PEARSON

BROADWAY — Harold Seabrook Pearson, 83, of 724 Burgess Circle, Broadway, died Friday (5/9/14) at his residence.

He was the oldest of five children. He was a member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church for many years, where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board, Sunday School Superintendent, and treasurer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys A. Pearson; mother, Letitia Pearson Bryant Gillis; father, Bennie Lee Murchison; stepfather, William Jasper Gillis; and his daughter, Joyce Jean Thomason.

He is survived by a son, Lee Harold Pearson Jr. (Brenda) of Sanford; daughter, Deborah Ann Ellison of Sanford; siblings, Odessa Williams (Fred), and Fannie Headen, all of Sanford, and Charles Bryant (Rebie) of Gainesville, Fla.; and host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Broadway. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

ELEANOR ETHER BEESLEY

CARTHAGE — Eleanor Esther Beesley, 84, of Carthage, died Sunday (5/11/14) at home.

She was born in Devon New Brunswick, Canada, on Feb. 21, 1930, to Norman and Fern Till Morehouse. She spent her working career as a homemaker and community volunteer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph Ralph Beesley; and her parents, Norman and Fern Till Morehouse.

A celebration of life will be held today at 4 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Allen Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her children, Pam Goldsmith and husband Steve of Virginia, Joseph R. Beesley Jr. of Ontario, Canada, Sally Beesley Watson and husband Sam of Carthage, and Susan Beesley Scurlock of King; sister, Bernice of Ontario, Canada; brothers, Philip of Ontario, Canada, Ted of British Columbia, Canada, Stephen of Nova Scotia, Canada, and Billy of New Brunswick, Canada; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

JACOB AFTON UNDERWOOD

SANFORD — Jacob Afton Underwood, 89, of Sanford, died Sunday (5/11/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born in Moore County on June 7, 1924, to the late William F. Underwood and Fannie Laton Underwood. He worked as a machinist and served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Smith Underwood; a son, Ronald Underwood and wife Pam of Raleigh; sisters-in-law, Cordie Graham of Sanford and Elgie Underwood of Robbins; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at Sanford Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. John Gordon presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Sanford Chapel. A private burial will follow at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery in Moore County.

TERRY ELLEN GOMILLION BROOKS

SILER CITY — Terry Ellen Gomillion Brooks, 59, of Jessie Bridges Road, Siler City, died Saturday (5/10/14) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

She was born in Chatham County on Aug. 30, 1954, the daughter of Broward Gomillion and Peggy Buckner. She was a 1972 graduate of Jordan-Matthews and had worked as a bookkeeper at Justice Motors. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Tim Brooks; two sons, Jon Brooks and fiancee' Brooke, and Zach Brooks and wife Lisa, all of Siler City; sisters, Diane B. Smith and husband Max of Bear Creek, and Donna K. Carden and husband Ervin of Henderson; three brothers, Gary Lee Kirby and wife Kathy, and Steven T. Kirby, all of Chapel Hill, and Allen Gomillion of Ponce De Leon, Fla.; one granddaughter; one aunt and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Rocky River Baptist Cemetery in Siler City.

GUY MELVIN WOODARD JR.

VASS — Guy Melvin Woodard Jr., 82, of Vass, died Saturday (5/10/14) at FirstHealth Hospice House.

He was born in Fayetteville, on Sept. 16, 1931, to Guy Melvin and Thelma Reeves Woodard Sr. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Korean War veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice Mae Woodard; two children, Guy Melvin Woodard III of Vass and Kathy Lynn Woodard of Locust; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date.
