MARY NIXON BAKER THOMPSON

SANFORD — Mary Nixon Baker Thompson, age 87, went home to be with her Lord & Savior and her deceased husbands on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

She was born in Hoke County, NC on March 30, 1927, to the late Nathaniel Esker Nixon and Bertha Denny Nixon. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Lee Burt Baker and her second husband, John Henry Thompson (PaPa John) and siblings, Polly Nixon Hancock, David Ray Nixon, Warrie Robert (Bob) Nixon, Charles Esker Nixon, Sallie Nixon Wade and Woodrow (Mack) Nixon; and nephew, Wayne Wade.

Mrs. Thompson was a retired school employee of West Lee Middle School. She was a member of Grace Chapel Church and a very loved member of the Annie Bell Register Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Annie Bell Register Missionary Society. Mrs. Mary loved her flower gardens (especially her rose garden). People would stop by and admire her roses and other flowers as this was a great part of who she was.

She is survived by children, Royce (Mary) Baker, Lynda Mason, Joyce (Ernest) Faulk, Lynn (Becky) Baker and Danny Baker, all of Sanford; stepchildren, John (Shirley) Thompson of New Jersey and Michael (Gloria) Thompson of Sanford; nine grandchildren, James (Carolyn) Baker, Jolynda (Michael) Shultz, Wendy (John) Dixon, Keshia (Mike) Harrington, Sherry (Gordon) Bright, Joey (Amber) Faulk, Tiffany (Gabe) Gomez, Suze (Dayne) Miller, Christy (Tom) Gonzalez; fifteen great-grandchildren, Mia, Payne, Regan Schultz, Kel, Kasey Dixon, Cole and Carlee Harrington, Kayla and Ryan Bright, Adam Faulk, Briana, Selah Rose and Jocelyn Gomez, Devin and Dillon Miller. She is also survived by a very special niece, Carolyn Wade Marsh and two very special friends that she called her sisters, Ruby Belsma and Frances Baker.

The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Grace Chapel Church with the Rev. Bob Yandle and the Rev. Joel Murr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

REBECCA LOIS FRYE KING

VASS — Rebecca Lois Frye King, 84, of Vass, died Sunday (6/29/14) at Pinelake Nursing Home in Carthage.

A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Johnson Grove Cemetery with Pastor Randy Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of Joe and Ruth Frye, 220 Vass Carthage Road, Carthage.

She was born in Vass on March 11, 1930, to Lucian Brooks Frye and Gladys Smith Frye. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Henry King Sr.; a son, Jack Henry King Jr.; and a nephew.

She is survived by two children, Jackie King of Vass and Harry Lee King of Winston-Salem; sisters, Ruth F. Hendrick of Deland, Fla., Rachel F. Thomas (Waylon) of Concord and Ann F. Wallace (John) of Vass; brothers, William B. Frye and Joseph F. Frye (Ruth), both of Vass, and Samuel M. Frye (Dana) of Joanna, S.C.; three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins.

SANFORD — Earl Howard Brewington, 77, of 2820 Academy St., died Friday (6/27/14) in Bronx, N.Y. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.

PATRICIA DIANE DURHAM

SANFORD — Funeral service for Patricia Diane Durham, 66, of Sanford, who died Wednesday (6/25/14), was held Monday at 11 a.m. at Jonesboro Height Baptist Church with Dr. Calvin Sayles officiating. Eulogy was by her brother, Rev. Ronald Durham.

Associate Pastor for Music and Education and pianist was Rev. Ronald Byrd. Soloists were Richard Sistrunk Sr. and Roger Vance. The congregation also sang.

Pallbearers were Robert Durham, Michael Kempf, Jim Durham, Bryan Glover, Omari Geiger and Darryl McAuley.

Burial followed at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

CLYDE BUCHANAN ROSSER

SANFORD — Funeral service for Clyde Buchanan Rosser was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ronald E. Stoker and the Rev. Wendell McGee officiating.

Organist was David Almond with Gwen Babcock interpreting.

A graveside service followed at Shallow Well Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Lloyd, Daryl Perry, James Rosser, John Rosser, Graham Terrell and Garrett Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers were Sidney Boaz, Reid Harris, Paul Kelly, Reginald Miller and J.C. Perry.

Arrangements were by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

HAYWOOD DAVID WELCH

CAMERON — Haywood David Welch, 77, of Cameron, died Saturday (6/28/14).

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

He was born in Harnett County, son of the late Haywood D. Welch and Exie Lee Thomas Welch. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Welch; a grandchild, Harley Welch; and his sister, Joanne Sharp. He was a retired fork lift operator with Sanford Finishing.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores H. Welch; daughters, Sandra W. Blackman and husband Shane of Wilmington, and Gail W. Maddox and husband Don of Olivia; sons, Haywood David Welch III and wife Amy, and Jonathan Welch and wife Jessica, all of Virginia; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and one adopted daughter, Angela Green.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral.

STELLA SULLIVAN CAMPBELL

BEAR CREEK — Stella Sullivan Campbell, 90, of Bear Creek died Monday (6/30/14) at her residence.

She was born in Chatham County on Aug. 16, 1923, the daughter of Ernest C. and Mattie P.  Phillips. She was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, a graduate of Bennett High School and Sandhills Community College. She worked at Klopman Mills of Ramseur for 30 years and then became a nurse. She worked at Moore Regional Hospital and retired from Chatham Hospital after 20 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Sullivan; and sisters, Lessie Russell and Lillian Nall.

She is survived by three sons, Steve Sullivan (Nancy) of Bear Creek, Mickey Sullivan (Debbie) of Carthage and Johnny Sullivan of Coleridge; brother, Herman Phillips (Lois) of Bear Creek; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church in Bennett with the Rev. Scott Allmond and the Rev. Dr. Ron Chaney officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Sullivan, Forrest Glosson, Lane Perry, Clint Perry, Boomer Hussey and Jeremiah Hussey.
