MONCURE — Sheila Dianne Davis, 60, of 652 Old Sanford Road, Moncure, died Monday (6/30/14) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.

DOROTHY MAE LONG

BRONX, N.Y. — Dorothy Mae Long, 73, of Bronx, N.Y., formerly of Fayetteville, died Thursday (6/26/14) in New York. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Cunningham & Son’s Mortuary in Fayetteville.

BOBBY THOMPSON

SANFORD — Bobby Thompson, 70, of 424 Goldsboro Ave., Sanford, died Monday (6/30/14) at Central Carolina Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.

JUNE MARIE DARK HUDDLESTON

SILER CITY — June Marie Dark Huddleston, 86, died Friday (6/27/14) at Coventry House in Siler City.

She was born Nov. 22, 1927. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Siler City. She was preceded in death by her parents, A.B. and Nan Cooper Dark; sisters, Berta Albright and husband Clyde, Wilma Dark, Myrtle Fox and husband Will, Joy Ward and husband Ben, Dorothy MacDaniel and husband Marshal, and Decie Frye and husband Will; and brothers, Garland Dark and wife Margie, Guy Dark and wife Lela, and A. Bert Dark Jr., and wife Christine.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, R.F. (Dick) Huddleston Jr.; one son, Richard F. Huddleston III, and wife Juli of Dexter, Mich.; two grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sara Huddleston Burgess of Siler City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home and other times at the family home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery in Siler City with the Rev. Bob Wachs and the Rev. Travis Owen officiating.

JAMES EDWARD NEWELL SR.

SANFORD — James “Red” Edward Newell Sr., 68, died Monday (6/30/14) at his home.

He was born in Chatham County on April 6, 1946, to the late Joe and Janie Newell. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny Newell, Robert Newell, Marvin Newell and Henry Newell; and sister, Littie Vanskiver.

He is survived by his daughters, Cathy Juanita Newell Parrish and Deborah Carol Newell, both of Sanford; his son, James “Bud” Newell Jr. and wife Tonya of Sanford; brother, Bill Newell of Sanford; sisters, Eva Newell of Carthage and Jean Barham of Johnsonville; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Christian Faith Ministries with Pastor Donald Kivett officiating.

The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. today and Thursday at the home of Cathy Newell Parrish at 6820 Deerfield Drive.

JOHN BANDY

CARTHAGE — John Bandy, 45, of Carthage died Saturday (6/28/14) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Carthage Elementary School Auditorium. Burial will follow at the Green Grove A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery in Cameron.

A viewing will be held Thursday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Pugh & Smith Funeral Home in Carthage.

He is survived by his wife, Isienora Bandy; children, John Bandy (Tasha) and Elantra Sloan; mother, Delores Degraffenreid; three grandchildren; one sister, Sandra Elliott (Elvis); and one brother, James Bandy.
