SANFORD — Mr. Robert John Moss, age 69, of Sanford, N.C., died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Central Carolina Hospital.

Mr. Moss was born on July 3, 1943, in Washington, D.C. to the late Matthew Victor Moss and Jane Montieth Moss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Moss; a brother, Matthew Moss; and by a sister, Ann Moss Coffin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. He was a retired field service engineer.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Davis Moss; a son, Robert Moss and wife Cindy of Wendell, N.C.; two daughters, Lorraine Corbett and husband Raymond of Four Oaks, N.C. and Jane Martin and husband David of Sanford, N.C.; a brother, Phillip Moss of Philadelphia, PA and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Preacher Raymond Corbett officiating.

SANFORD — Hilda Gray Stone Gilmore, 87, died Sunday (4/21/13) at Sanford Health & Rehab Center.
She was born on March 10, 1926, in Lee County to the late Prentice Stone and Pearl Dean Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Underwood Gilmore; a daughter, Sue Gilmore Jackson; brothers, Prentice Stone Jr. and Theodore Stone; and a great-grandson.
She is survived by a son, Mike Gilmore and wife Sissy of Sanford; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Buffalo Cemetery with the Rev. Elton Bryan officiating.

SANFORD — Graveside service for Edwin Monroe Manning, 80, who died Friday (4/19/13), was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Shallow Well United Church of Christ cemetery with the Rev. Donald Thompson and the Rev. Robert Thomas officiating. Military honors were provided by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Van Leaird, Scott Way, Chuck Nedrow, Ricky Manning, Gerald Wood and Paul Profio.

BEAR CREEK — Alene Hanner, of 436 Hannertown Road, died Friday (4/19/13) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts & Son Funeral Home in Siler City.

SANFORD — A memorial service for Pricilla Sims McGraw, 88, who died Thursday (4/11/13), was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roger Thomas.

SANFORD — Memorial Mass for Brian Rawson, 64, who died Saturday (4/13/13), was held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen Catholic Church by Fr. Hector LaChalelle. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
During the service the congregation sang. Pianist/organist was Evelyn Dooley and the cantor was Tillie Earp.

BENNETT — Charles A. (Hollywood) Hackney, 64, of 430 Calvin Phillips Road, died Saturday (4/20/13) at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
He was born in Moore County on March 4, 1949, the son of John and Josie (Brewer) Hackney. He was an employee of Smith & Buckner Funeral Home and a Chatham County Deputy for 15 years. He spent five years with the Lee County Animal Control, served as a reserved police officer with Robbins Police Department, and had been an insurance agent with Southland Life Insurance Company. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, Sunday school teacher and sound room technician.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia (Phillips) Hackney; three sons, Tony Hackney and wife Tara of Robbins, Jerry Hackney of Bennett, and Drew Hackney and wife Maggie of Siler City; one granddaughter and several nieces.
Funeral service will be conducted today at 3 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church in Bennett with the Rev. Scott Allmon, the Rev. Chance Walters and the Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the State Employee Credit Union, att. Ann Swire, 101 Walmart Super Center, Siler City, N.C. 27344, for the Jacy Hackney Scholarship Fund.

FUQUAY-VARINA — Ola Kelly Avent Smith, 80, died Sunday (4/21/13) at her home.
She was born in Harnett County on June 21, 1932, daughter of the late Roger Lee and Lois Morgan Avent. She graduated from LaFayette High School in 1950 as valedictorian of her class. She attended Campbell College where she received an Associate of Arts degree and transferred to East Carolina College where she graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Grammar Education. She was a member of Christian Light Christian Church where she served in a variety of areas, including organist/pianist, choir member, Sunday school teacher and director of youth activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gerald Smith.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Christian Light Christian Church in Fuquay-Varina. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.

She is survived by her son, Randy Gerald Smith and wife Susan Moore Smith of Fuquay-Varina; a daughter, Kelly Smith Bain and husband Alton Deems Bain of Lillington; five grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Ann Smith Funderburk of Lillington.
