SOUTHERN PINES — Arthur Curtis “A.C.” Moss Jr., age 87, of Southern Pines, died Monday (1/28/13) at Penick Village in Southern Pines.

He was born in Newport News, Virginia, son of the late Arthur Curtis Moss Sr. and Laura Lane Williams Moss. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the United States Navy. He was a retired Special Agent with the United States Treasury Department/ATF and also served as a Trooper with the Virginia State Police. He was a member of Independent Orange Lodge No. 138 AF&AM in Orange, Virginia and a member of Jamil Shrine and the Aiken County Shrine Club.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at the Penick Village in Southern Pines.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Bessie Lenora “B.W.” Wilt Moss of Southern Pines, NC; daughters, Laura Moss Phillips of Sanford, NC and Linda Moss Leonard (Mike) of Cleveland, TN; sister, Martha Francis Powell of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and grandchildren, Jennifer Phillips Williams (Anthony S.), Laura Drumm Edrington (Doug), Blair Phillips Nail (Jordan) and Arthur Scott Drumm.

SANFORD — Prinsest James, 90, of 3504 North Ridge Drive, died Wednesday (1/30/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

SANFORD — Funeral service for David Virgil Wicker Jr., who died Tuesday (1/29/13), was conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Zion Christian Church with the Rev. Steve Johnson presiding. Burial followed at the church cemetery with military rites.

Pianist and organist was Gerri Hearn. The congregation sang two hymns and the Zion Men and Zion Church Choir sang several selections of music.

Active pallbearers were Van Johnson, J.E. Hearn, Dewitt Baker, Donnie Thomas, Martin Marks, Edward Coggins and Mark Kelly. Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Pilson, Ted Lawrence, Ron Gartin and Foster Neal.

BROADWAY — A memorial service for Linda Gray McBryde Tulloch, 72, who died Tuesday (1/15/13), will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mount Pisgah Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Doug Houston officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.

SANFORD — Vernon Maurice McIver, 49, of 150 Variety Lane, died Tuesday (1/29/13) at his home.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy McIver.

He is survived by his grandmother, Katherine Chesney (Albert) of Sanford; one sister, Sarah M. Barrow of Sanford; and two brothers, Thomas McIver (Jeanne) of Carthage and Tracey McIver (Zola) of Hoffman.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Poplar Springs AME Zion Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Watson Memorial-Cunningham & Sons Mortuary.

CARTHAGE — Bobbie Carl Cox, 75, died Wednesday (1/30/13) at his home.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Johnson and Pastor David Bibey officiating. Burial will follow at Cameron Community Cemetery will military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1937, to Charles Milton and Hulda Elizabeth Rogers Cox, and was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Milton and Hulda Elizabeth Rogers Cox; two sisters, Betty Delphia and Marian Bailey; and two brothers, Thomas Cox and Jerry Lee Cox.

He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Virginia Carol Collier Cox; five children, Bobbie Milton Cox and wife Mary Ellen Neuhauser of Carthage, Donna Cox Morgan Black and husband Greg of Seagrove, Billie Carl Cox and wife Susan Ryder of Dover, Del., Catherine Cox Freeman and husband Mark of Carthage, Charles Allen Cox and companion Patty Grooms of Cameron; one brother, Kenneth Cox of Iowa; four sisters, Carol Jean Seefeldt of Colorado, Glenda Workman of Florida, and Judy Cox and Nancy Clay of West Virginia; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
