MARY SPIVEY BROWN

SANFORD — Mary Spivey Brown, 88, of Sanford died Sunday, February 3, 2013.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Brown was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Benjamin W. Spivey and Annie Love Spivey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan E. Brown. Mrs. Brown was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women. She was a former member of the women's golf league at Quail Ridge and loved animals and the outdoors.

Mrs. Brown is survived by two sons, Ronnie Brown and wife Brenda of Sanford, and Ricky Brown of Carolina Beach; one brother, Sam Spivey and wife Jean of Sanford; three grandchildren, Morgan Brown and wife Tracy of Sanford, Christy Daly and husband Michael of Sanford, and Ashley Britton and husband Ken of Sanford; six great-grandchildren, Brittany and Brianna Brown, Carleigh Flynn, Alexandra Daly, Grace and Hannah Britton.

The family will receive friends following the service in the Colonnade of First Presbyterian Church.

JAMES DANIEL ASHWORTH

LILLINGTON — James Daniel (J.D.) Ashworth died Sunday (2/3/13) at his home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sam Ashworth; his mother, Josephine Smith Ashworth; and his brother, John Wade Ashworth.

He is survived by two sisters, Rena Coleman and her husband Jim of Birmingham, Ala., JoAnn Hardee and her husband Art of Madison, Ga.; a brother, Scott Ashworth and wife Judy of Lillington, sister-in-law, Janice Ashworth of Lillington; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Woodside United Methodist Church in Lillington with the Rev. Michael Sadtler and the Rev. James Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

SANFORD — Graveside service for Bobby Lewis Thomas, 75, who died Thursday (1/31/13), was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Jonesboro Cemetery by the Rev. Roberta Byram.

SANFORD — Prinest James, 90, of 3504 North Ridge Drive, died Wenesday (1/30/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Rovina Chance James; children, Charlie James Sr., of Moreno Valley, Calif., Fred James of Ellerbe, Prentiss James Jr. of Cocoran, Calif., Patricia Waddell of Dayton, Ohio, and Cindy Morrison of Sanford; 27 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Christina James and Patricia Ross James; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

MONCURE — Funeral service for Roy Roger Berryman, 80, of 981 Old U.S. 1, who died Friday (2/1/13), was held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. George Dark officiating.

The Gospel Caravan and Sons of Destiny sang.

MONROE FEASTER

SILER CITY — Funeral service for Monroe Feaster, 81, of 259 Feaster Road, who died Wednesday (1/30/13), was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Ted Lane of Mission of Hope Independent Church officiating. Burial was at Lee Memory Gardens.

Musicians were Freddie Berryman, Pastor Loretta Butler and Dorothy Matthews.

Pallbearers were friends and family.

AVERY "A.J." GARRELL

SANFORD — Avery “A.J.” Garrell, 64, died Monday (2/4/13) at Sanford Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Loris, S.C. on Sept. 8, 1948, to Doris Hardie Garrell Dudley and the late Homer Lee Garrell.

In addition to his mother, Doris Hardie Garrell Dudley of Chadbourn, he is survived by his wife, Jeannie Yarboro Garrell; three sons, Drew Long and wife Jessica, Jackson Garrell and Justin Garrell, all of Sanford; two daughters, Donna Stanley and husband Mitchell of Nakina, and Belinda Mathews and husband Tommy of Clarendon; two brothers, Ronald Garrell and wife Karen of Clarendon and Ricky Garrell and wife Wendy of Whiteville; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Grace Chapel Church and the funeral will follow at 4 p.m. with Dr. Rudy Holland officiating.

The burial will follow Thursday at 11 a.m. at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, Inc., to assist the funeral, and also for the college expenses for Jack and Justin, 600 W. Main St., Sanford, N.C. 27332.
