BROADWAY — Madison “Delbert” Patterson, 61, died Friday (2/8/13) at Dunn Rehab and Nursing Center.

He was the son of Jessie Gillis Patterson and the late Madison Cleo Patterson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leamon Travis Patterson.

He is survived by his mother, Jessie Patterson; a brother, Larry Dale Patterson and wife Deborah of Broadway; and two sisters, LaVerne Patterson Wright and husband Gene of Broadway, and Janice Patterson Thomas and husband Danny of Lillington.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Holly Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.

LINDEN — Virginia Lee Adams, 57, died Monday (2/4/13) at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Adams Sr.; two sons, William Shelton and Daniel Adams Jr.; one daughter, Janie Ironside; two sisters, Peggy Esola and Patricia Roman; one brother, Ronald Johnson; and three grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Linden. Visitation will be held from 2 until 3 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

PITTSBORO — Wilma Gray Burns Hearn, 85, died Thursday (2/7/13) at the Laurels of Chatham.

She was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Chatham County, the daughter of Garland Burns and Kate Brown Burns. She was a homemaker, but had also worked at UNC Hospital, as well as providing home health care. She was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Graham Garfield Burns, Clayton Brown Burns and David Dodson Burns; sister, Hazel Burns Farrell; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry Long of Chatham County, Stanley Richard Long of Garner, and Johnny Allen Hearn of Durham; daughters, Cindy Gray Hearn Wadsworth of Manhattan, Kan., and Garleen Renee Hearn of Jacksonville, Fla.;  nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gum Springs Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall at the conclusion of the service.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Lacey May Carpenter, 20, who died Monday (2/4/13), was held at 6 p.m. Thursday at San Lee Chapel by the Rev. Dale Sauls and the Rev. Bob Wachs.

During the service, the San Lee Chapel Church Band played and sang. The eulogy was given by Scott Pace.

BUNNLEVEL — Lewis David Johnson Sr., 87, died Friday (2/8/13) at Highsmith-Rainey Medical Center in Fayetteville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington.


CARTHAGE — Darlene Moore Maness Cockman, 70, died Thursday (2/7/13) at Peak Resource–Pinelake in Carthage.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Bill Cooper, the Rev. Roger Rife and Phil Enloe. Burial will follow at Highfalls Wesleyan Church Cemetery.

A native of Moore County, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.V. Moore. She worked at Ithaca Industries in Robbins and later in life received her GED and C.N.A. at Sandhills Community College, then went to work at Autumn Care in Biscoe. She was preceded in death by husbands, Ernest Maness Jr. who died in 1987, and Warren Cockman who she married later; sons, Ernest Maness III and the Rev. Andy Maness; and brother, Gilbert Moore.

She is survived by son, Jerry Maness and wife Melissa of Carthage; daughter-in-law, Susan Maness of Lancaster, S.C.; brothers, A.V. Moore and wife Lillian of Bonlee, Wayne Moore of Cameron, Leonard “Ross” Moore and wife Judy, and Roger Moore and wife Velma, all of Robbins; sisters, Mildred Tonkins of Asheboro and Betty Greene of Eagle Springs; sister-in-law, Sandra Moore of Aberdeen; several half brothers and sisters; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times at the residence of Jerry and Melissa Maness.
