VASS — Keith Wayne Thomas, 60, died Monday (7/8/13) at his home.
He was born in Sanford on Oct. 17, 1952, to Alva Ray and Clive Marie Gilchrist Thomas. He worked as a farmer most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Battaille Thomas; his parents, Alva Ray and Clive Marie Gilchrist Thomas of Lillington; two daughters, Page Willis and husband Jason of Cherryville, and Amanda Gabriel and husband Daniel of Belmont; one sister, Donna Thomas Crews of Ocean Isle; two brothers, Gary Ray Thomas of Buies Creek and Tim Thomas of Lillington; and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
Services will be held at a later date.

DUNN — Ruby Sasser Best, 95, died Monday (7/8/13) at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Glad Tiding Church with the Rev. Tim Rice officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Randy Best of Greer, S.C.; and daughters, Shelby Rosser and husband Jim of Buies Creek, Janice Lee and husband Donell of Sanford, Brenda Summers and husband Lynn of Raleigh and Joan Godwin of Dunn.

PITTSBORO — Floyd “Chilly Willie” Horton, 57, of 66 Cooper Horton Road, died Sunday (7/7/13) at Durham Regional Hospital in Durham.
He is survived by his mother, Nellie B. Horton; five sisters, Helen McNeill, Sadie Horton, Eva Arlene Horton, Doris Horton (Kent), and Juanita McLaughlin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Terrell's Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro.

CARTHAGE — Catherine Tabler, 88, of Tara Plantation, died Tuesday (7/9/13) at her residence.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tara Plantation in Carthage. Burial will be held at Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville, Md.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1925, to the late George and Eileen Burdette Binnix. She lived in Rockville, Md., where she raised her family, then became a nurse and worked for many years at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Bethesda. She moved to North Carolina after she retired. She was preceded in death by her son, Roger B. Tabler, and her son-in-law, Philip H. “Skip” Vetter III.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte T. Vetter of Carthage, and one grandson.
