DARLENE KERNES

SANFORD — A celebration of life for Darlene Kernes was held at Miller-Boles Chapel on Wednesday with the Rev. Russell Blackmon presiding. Pianist was Terri Cato. Two special songs were played.

Following the service, family and friends exited to the front lawn, where doves were released by her daughter, Melissa Kernes Gonzalez.

Arrangements were by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

 

JIMMIE WAYLON HENNINGS

CAMERON — Funeral service for Jimmie Waylon Hennings, 69, who died Thursday (11/28/13), was held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with the Rev. Brian Teeter officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Pianist was Treva McKenzie. Organist was Janell Howington. The Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Choir sang a medley. Rick Harrison and Robert Fowler played the guitar while Rick Harrison sang a solo.

Pallbearers were Allen Thompson, Danny Marks, Ryan Kramer, Tommy McKenzie, Kenny Mackay and Travis McKenzie.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

 

GARY LEWIS HOLT

SANFORD — Funeral service for Gary Lewis Holt, 84, who died Saturday (11/30/13), was held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Swann Station Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Blackmon and the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pianist was June Driggers. Soloists were Scott Partington and David Peele.

Pallbearers were Sean Cremins, Todd Persons, Scott Partington, Mark Rice, Johnny Rice and Adam Holder.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

 

BEVERLY RENEE FARRISH

ASHEBORO — Beverly Renee “Lil Bit” Farrish, 55, of 635 E. 4th St., died Monday (12/2/13) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Greater St. John Baptist Church in Asheboro. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Church Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Donita Phillips (James) of Greensboro and Linda Mabry (Amanda) of Lexington; one son, Anthony Mabry (Stefanie) of Liberty; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara Jean Parks and Robin Mabry, both of Asheboro, and Jennifer Matthews (Brian) of Trinity; three brothers, Larry Covington, Michael Mabry and Fred Covington, all of Asheboro; special friend, Dana Mave of Siler City, and brother-in-law, Ronnie Farrish of Siler City.

JAMES CROSBY REIVES

SANFORD — James Crosby Reives, 79, of 2201 Dalrymple St., died Tuesday (12/3/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marian Reives; one daughter, Marlene; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Bobby Reives (Margie); three sisters, Bettie Lanier (Frederick), Cathryn Cornelius (Samuel) and Addie Reives, all of Sanford, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jonesboro Chapel AME Zion Church. Burial will be at Minter Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home.

 

JOHNIE G. WOMACK

SANFORD — Johnie G. Womack, 80, died Tuesday (12/3/13) at Sanford Health and Rehab. Center on Farrell Road. Arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

SYLVIA BULLINS JONES

VASS — Funeral service for Sylvia Bullins Jones, 84, who died Saturday (11/30/13), was held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with the Rev. George Brice and the Rev. Brian Teeter officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Congregational music was shared by Treva McKenzie on the organ and Janell Howington on the piano. Special moments of remembrance were spoken by Wayne Marks.

Active pallbearers were Darrell Marks, Paul Marks, Brian Marks, Joey Thompson, Mitchell McCoy and Ken McCoy. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Marks and Tommy McCoy.

RUBY BERNICE GOODWIN THOMAS

SANFORD — Ruby Bernice Goodwin Thomas, 84, died Tuesday (12/3/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born in Bradley County, Tenn. on Jan. 18, 1929, to the late Charlie Goodwin and Sarah Bancroft Goodwin. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Selby Thomas, one grandchild, several brothers and sisters and one great-great-grandchild.

She is survived by one son, Edwin S. Thomas and wife, Janet, of Lillington; three daughters, Patsy T. Holcombe and husband, Larry, of Little River, S.C., Sylvia Leslie and Joan T. Hawes and husband, Claude, all of Broadway; one sister, Hazel Jeffers of Chattanooga, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Welborn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside service in the church and at other times at the home of Joan Hawes, 318 First St., Broadway.

PAUL WAYNE FRAZIER

SANFORD — Paul Wayne Frazier, 64, of 550 N. Plank Road, died Tuesday (12/3/13) at UNC Hospital at Chapel Hill.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmore Frazier.

He is survived by his mother, Louise Rader; father, James Rader; two brothers, Vender Frazier (Myrtise) and Dr. Ricky Frazier (Diane); three sisters, Delois Frazier (Larry), Marilyn McKinney (Rev. Ricky), and Traci McIver (Charles); special friend, Sabrina Chevalier; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at First Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Macedonia AME Zion Church in Gulf.

MICHAEL WILLIAM PETTIT

SANFORD — Michael William Pettit, 62, passed away peacefully from this life into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

Mike loved his family so much. His passions were playing drums, listening to blues music and riding his Harley. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and UNC Tar Heel fan. Mike also loved the Lord, and we are comforted in knowing that we will see him again.

A visitation will be held on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home, with inurnment following at Buffalo Cemetery.

Mike leaves behind to treasure his memory his wife, Vicki Bullard Pettit; daughter, Jillian Pettit Billups and her husband, Joshua; granddaughters, Haylee and Zoey Billups; mother, Dorothy Pettit; three sisters, Ann Stuart and her husband, Don, Donna Friesner and her husband, Honor, and Jean Azbell and her husband, Rick. In addition, he leaves behind many cousins, aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews.

He so loved “his girls,” granddaughters, Haylee and Zoey. The family welcomes flowers but also asks that memorial donations be made to their education fund as follows: SECU, 1002 Spring Lane, Sanford, N.C. 27330; please note “Billups Education Fund” in the memo line of your check.

The family would like to acknowledge the loving care and compassion of the Duke Raleigh Cancer Center, especially Dr. Joseph Moore and his Nurse Tracy, as well as the 4th Floor Oncology Nurses at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Their loving care made Mike's journey so much easier for him and for our family.
