MAXINE ANDREWS KIVETT

SILER CITY — Maxine Andrews Kivett, 87, of Braxton Manor, Siler City died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.

Mrs. Kivett was born in Chatham County on June 24, 1926, the daughter of Robert Coley and Myrtle (Powers) Andrews. She was retired from Belk Yates as a sales associate. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Roland C. Kivett; her parents; brothers, Julian and Lewis Andrews.

She is survived by daughters: Jean K. Purvis and husband Bobby of Siler City, NC, Ann K. Shaw and husband Tim of Sanford, NC; grandchildren, Kim Purvis and husband David, Nikki Murchison and husband David, Shawn Culberson and wife Deanna, Jason Shaw and wife Ashley Buchanan, Megan S. Hayes and husband DeLane; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Allie Grace and Maggie Culberson, Dawson and Drake Purvis, Samuel, Sophia and Will Murchison, Henry and LilaRuth Shaw and arriving in January, Shaw Hayes.

The family will receive friends Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC.

The funeral will be Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 2:30 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Jim Whittaker and Andrew Needham officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

SANFORD — Funeral mass for Anna G. Lewandowski, 99, who died Saturday (11/16/13), was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Catholic Church by Father Robert Ippolito. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens in New Port Richey, Fla.

During the service, the congregation sang. The cantor was Tillie Earp and the organist was Evelyn Dooley.

Pallbearers were Douglas Danuck, William Danuck, Bob Lewandowski, David Lewandowski, Jim Lewandowski and Kenneth Lewandowski.

NICOLE MARIE LYNCH FODOR

MONCURE — Funeral service for Nicole Marie Lynch Fodor, 33, who died Monday (11/18/13), was held Friday at 11 a.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robbie L. Gibson officiating. Several family members and friends gave remembrances. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery.

Recorded music was played.

Pallbearers were Gary Cogar, Bill Ribar, Eric Lehr, Randy Zitko, Jim Kurzenberger and Matt Cogar.

EDITH MASON BROWNLEE

SANFORD — Edith Mason Brownlee, 84, died Friday (11/22/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1930 in Harnett County to the late Carlie and Irene Mason. She was predeceased by her husband, W.C. Brownlee, and one grandson.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice Holmes and Sue Sloan; one sister, Doris Cupps; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Spring Hill United Methodist Church.

The family will also receive friends at Janice Holmes’ home, 13745 McDougall Road, Sanford.

SANFORD — Lemuel McIver, 78, of  914 Washington Ave., died Thursday (11/21/13) at First Health of the Carolinas in Pinehurst. Arrangements are pending by LHorton Community Funeral Home.

JAMES HALFORD ALLEN

CAMERON — Funeral service for James Halford Allen, 71, who died Monday (11/18/13), was conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cameron Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Greene and Dr. Greg Poplin officiating. Several of those attending gave special memories.

Pianist was Patty Lunday. The Rev. Lee and Nita McKinney sang a duet. Solos were sung by Cheryl Gilmore, Harry Holder and Dr. Greg Poplin.

Pallbearers were Fred Allen, Bryan Allen, Britt Young, Curtis Casey, Clint Babb and Edward Taylor. Members of his Greenwood High School graduating class sat together as a group.

Burial followed at Crains Creek Cemetery in Cameron with military rites.

A trio consisting of Dr. Wayne Greene, David Mitchell and Phillip Thomas also sang at the graveside.

FAYETTEVILLE — Julia Latiker, 65, of 6607 Grist Mill Road, died Monday (11/18/13) at the Hospice Center in Raleigh.

She is survived by sons, Anthony Latiker and Andre Latiker; daughter, Satarah Latiker; sisters, Ruth White, Sadie Ward and Carrie Howard; brother, Jerome Herrington; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Cunningham & Son’s Mortuary in Fayetteville.

HOPE MILLS — Connie Baldwin, 43, of 5504 Reliant Place, died Friday (11/15/13) at home.

She is survived by sisters, Cynthia E. Baldwin and Dorothy Ann McLaughlin; and brother, David L. Baldwin.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at McLaughlin Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Raeford. Burial will be at Mt. Hebrew Cemetery in Parkton.

CALVIN JEROME ROBERSON

PITTSBORO — Calvin Jerome “Jack” Roberson died Wednesday (11/20/13).

He was born May 9, 1931 in Chatham County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Danville Technical Institute as a linotype operator and worked at the Durham Morning Herald for years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie Ellis Roberson and Allen Roberson; two brothers, Waldo and George Roberson; and a sister, Margaret Roberson Burnette.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Hines Roberson; daughter, Jackie Roberson; two sons, Greg and Rusty Roberson; daughter-in-law, Marlina Roberson; five grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Roberson; sisters, Catherine Oldham, Grace Grumble, Mary Farrell, Betty Jean Riggsbee and Barbara Ferrell; and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Pittsboro. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Ada Peoples; three sons, James Peoples (Callie) of Sanford, Julius Colter of Charlotte and Gerald Colter of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Juanita Petty (Oscar) of Sanford and Anita Goldston of Pittsboro; daughter-in-law, Monique Colter of Charlotte; sons-in-law, Rudolph Vailes (Ernestine), Rudolph Kirby of Pittsboro; one sister-in-law, Gladys Vailes of New York; three brothers, David Reaves (Ernestine), Nathaniel Reaves (Frinco) and Walter Reaves (Mary), all of Pittsboro; three sisters, Mozelle Brimm and Lillie Blue of Pittsboro, and Hattie Waddell of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Union Grove AME Zion Church in Bear Creek. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

SANFORD — Hervis Leak, 74, formerly of Sanford, died Tuesday (11/19/13) in Greensboro.

He is survived by two sisters, Gwendolyn Leak Olephant of Greensboro and Mary Leak Ferguson of Raleigh; two brothers, Crinford Leak (Mary) and Winford Leak, both of Sanford; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Jonesboro AME Zion Church. Wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Knotts Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

RUTH CLYDE FERGUSON

SANFORD — Funeral service for Ruth Clyde Ferguson was held Friday at Southern Pines United Methodist Church in Southern Pines with the Rev. Charles Albright officiating. Organist for the service was Catherine Davis.

Following the funeral, a graveside service was held at Buffalo Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rev. Michael Bost, Rev. Thomas Bost, Rob Weber, Derek Borrell, Danny Borrell, Michael Ferguson and Jim Ferguson.

Honorary pallbearers were Susan Keller, Kelly Kaze, Emily Fisher and Megan Walsh.
