MAMERS — SFC. Mortemor James “Jim” Mahar, Ret. U.S. Army, 84, of Mamers died Monday, December 31, 2012 at E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center in Lillington.

He was born in Oconomowoc, WI, the son of the late Arthur James and Mary Degneau Mahar. Jim joined the U.S. Army shortly after graduating from high school. He made the U.S. Army a career and retired after 20 years of service. During his time in the U.S. Army, he acquired a diverse set of skills including parachute maintenance with 82nd Airborne Division, radar repair in the Signal Corps, and Personnel Sergeant. After retiring from the military, he worked as an electrician with Celanase in Salisbury, N.C. Jim’s hobbies included fishing, walking, and enjoying classical and easy listening music. He was a loving father and the finest husband in the world. Jim was preceded in death by his son, Mitch Mahar.

A Celebration of Life with full military honors will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at O’Quinn-Peebles Chapel with  his brother-in-law, Lt. Col. Sam Seetin, Ret. US Army, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center, 185 Pine State Street, Lillington, N.C. 27546.

Mr. Mahar is survived by his wife, Rozena “Jake” Mahar of the home; son, Robert Kenneth Mahar and wife Marcita of Mamers; daughter, Pamela Ann Holt of Salisbury, N.C.; five grandchildren, Miranda Fox, Ashley Mobley, Christopher Holt, Gabrielle and Mitch Mahar; and one great-granddaughter, Layla Holt.

SANFORD — William Avery Bodenhamer, 39, died Monday (1/7/13) at his home.

He was born in Lee County on Sept. 6, 1973, to Mack Cardell Bodenhamer of Sanford and Janette Buchanan Boggs of Sanford. He loved hunting, fishing, softball, racing and the UNC Tar Heels. He worked as a roofer in construction.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Dianne Renee Brown Bodenhamer; son, David Scott “Scottie” Bodenhamer of Broadway; daughter, Heather Grace Bodenhamer of Sanford; brother, David Wayne Bodenhamer and wife Donna of Broadway; sister, Tammy B. Castleberry and husband Robin of Broadway; one grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and the memorial service will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Pearl Castleberry officiating. The family will also be receiving friends at his sister Tammy Castleberry's home, 401 Vernon St., Broadway.

CAMERON — Mable Odel Burns, 89, of 18135 N.C. Hwy. 27 West, died Sunday (1/6/13) at her residence.

She is survived by two sons, Ricky of the home, and William (Mary) of Cameron; one daughter, Tonya of Sanford; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Thursday at St. John Penecostal Holiness Church in Cameron. The wake will be today from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

CAMERON — Graveside service for Michael Scott Holder, 52, who died Saturday (1/5/13), was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rocky Fork Christian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin B. McHarg presiding.

SPRING LAKE — James Howard "Pete" Davis, 86, died Sunday (1/6/13) at his residence.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Olivia Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Davis; daughters, Marilyn Grudzinski, Debra Ramirez and Katrina Marter; sons, Henry Davis and Michael Davis; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Ramelle Lambert Duke, 85, died Tuesday (1/8/13) at The Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center in Jamestown.

She was born in Stanly County, on Dec. 16, 1927, to the late Noah Walter Lambert and Bertha Barbee Lambert. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Duke. She, along with her late husband, were the owners of Duke's Drive-In in Sanford and then worked for Moen as an inspector. She was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Steven Duke and wife Dorothy of Cary; daughter, Mavis Hinton and husband Clark of High Point; brother, Herman Lambert and wife Betty Ruth of Albemarle; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and the funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Pastor Ira Sutton and Pastor Philip Blinson officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

APEX — Barbara Daniels, 74, of 8540 Stephenson Road, died Monday (1/7/13) at Western Wake Medical Center in Cary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Louise Wolfe.

Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the C.E. Willie Funeral Chapel in Pittsboro. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
