CARTHAGE — Marie Martin, 82, of Carthage died Saturday (7/19/14) at the FirstHealth Hospice House.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Pugh & Smith Funeral Home in Carthage.
BAXTER WORTH PASCHAL JR.
FAYETTEVILLE — Baxter Worth Paschal Jr., 68, died Friday (7/18/14) at First Health Hoke Hospital in Raeford.
He was born in Carthage on Oct. 28, 1946. He attended Sandhills Community College and earned an AAS in accounting. He later earned a Bachelor’s degree in human biology from Lincoln College in Indiana and a Doctorate of Chiropractic Medicine from the National University of Health Sciences. He went on to practice chiropractics in Fayetteville and Southern Pines for over 40 years.
He also was a former part-owner of the Fayetteville Flyers basketball team and hosted a radio talk show in the early 1990s called “Bax Matters” on Fayetteville station WFNC. He logged hundreds of miles as a medical transport pilot using his own private plane.
He is survived by three sons, Baxter Worth Paschal III and wife Alicia of Fayetteville, Ryan Wiley Paschal and wife Brittany of Southern Pines, and Robert Luke Paschal of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fair Promise UMC in Glendon, conducted by the Rev. Tony Baurichter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.

GENE PATRICK ‘PAT’ KELLY
SANFORD — The memorial service for Gene Patrick “Pat” Kelly, 48, of Sanford, who died Sunday (7/6/14) at Central Carolina Hospital has now been rescheduled due to illness in the family.
The memorial service will now be held at Flat Springs Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Gary McCollough presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall from 10-11 a.m.
Kelly was born in Lee County on April 30, 1966. He was an installer for Miller Heating and Air Conditioning Company.
Surviving relatives include his parents, Ernest Clifford Kelly and Eleonore Hartmann Kelly, both of Sanford; a son, Eric Patrick Kelly of Sanford; a daughter, Erika Krystine Kelly of Sanford; a brother, Michael Ernest Kelly of Wilmington; sisters, Susan Kelly Brown (Jimmy) of Broadway and Annette Kelly Fawcett of Sanford; paternal grandmother, Lucy Belle Kelly of Sanford, two grandchildren, and six nephews.
