JIMMY ARCHIE STACK

SANFORD — Jimmy Archie Stack, age 55, of Sanford, N.C., died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Central Carolina Hospital.

Mr. Stack was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on May 5, 1959, to Willie Lee Deal Stack and the late Thomas Stack. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ayden Griffin. Mr. Stack was employed as a fork lift operator for 3M Manufacturing Company.

Surviving relatives in addition to his mother, include his wife of thirty years, Vernie Fletcher Stack of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth Stack Griffin and husband Chris of Sanford; brothers, Robert Stack and wife Kathy of Sanford and Michael Stack and wife Michelle of Aberdeen; sisters, Peggy Stack Badders and husband Bill of Sanford and Dinah Stack Smith and husband Anthony of Cameron; and one grandchild, Parker Griffin.

The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, from 3 p.m. to the funeral hour. The funeral will take place at 4 p.m. also at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Buffkin and Mr. Bobby Fletcher presiding. Burial will follow at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

MT. HOLLY — Mrs. Evelyn Fosteen Bridges, 57, of 106 Walnut Avenue, Mt. Holly, departed for Heaven on Saturday, July 26, at the CaroMont Regional Hospital, in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, 118 Fayetteville Street, Clinton, N.C., with the Reverend Ray Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinton City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bridges, who was born in Scotland County, was the daughter of the late Benjamin Thomas Skipper and Lucy Barrington Skipper. She worked as a pharmacy tech.

Mrs. Bridges is survived by her husband, Amos C. Bridges III, (Casey); mother, Lucy Barrington Skipper; children, Patience Bridges, Jeremy Bridges, Joshua Bridges; grandchildren, Josie Bridges, Emily Bridges, Benjamin Bridges, Joshua Bridges and Will Blackmon; sister, Teresa Skipper Evans; brothers, Benjamin Donald Skipper and David Warren Skipper; and mother-in-law, Marjorie Bridges of Sanford, N.C.

STALEY — Dr. Ocie M. Brown died Friday, July 25, 2014 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, N.C.

She was Presiding Elder of the Sanford District - Central North Carolina Conference — AME Zion Church (Retired). She was born October 8, 1936 in Randolph County, Staley, N.C. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and had a lifetime membership to NAACP.

She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Wayne Brown of Staley, N.C. and Chris Brown of Tampa. Fla.; one daughter, Gail Brown Purdie of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Delsie M. Hilton and Annie Ruth Matthews of Winston Salem, N.C. and Shelia Pearl Guin of Asheboro, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jonathan Purdie of Kingsport, Tenn., Jocelyn Purdie of Charlotte, N.C., Amya Brown and Ayanna Pettigrew of Tampa, Fla., and Jhante’ McMillian of Rock Hill, S.C.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Oliver’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Staley, N,C. Viewing will begin at 12 p.m.

GARY STEVENS SHARMAN

CAMERON — Gary Stevens Sharman, 59, of Cameron died Saturday (7/26/14) at his home.

He was born in Baltimore, Md., on July 14, 1955, to the late William Bryson Sharman and Dorothy Louise Engles Sharman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Sharman. He was a maintenance technician for Town and Country Apartments and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Arlene Stokowski Sharman; daughter, Jennifer Sharman of Maryland; two brothers, Peter Bryson Sharman and William Bryant Sharman, both of Glen Burnie, Md.; and stepchildren, Donna, Chuck, Edward and Jerry Knott.

A memorial service will be held today at 6:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Stephen Athans officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.

J. WILLARD ELLINGTON

SILER CITY — J. Willard Ellington, 90, of Ellington Road, Siler City died Saturday (7/26/14) at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

He was born in Chatham County on Nov. 2, 1923, the son of Marvin Neese and Inez (Clark) Ellington. He was employed for 25 years with the NCDOT as an equipment operator and was an Auctioneer. He was a member of Moon’s Chapel Baptist Church and the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a 1950 graduate of the Reisch American School of Auctioneering in Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Marvin Harrison, Kermit and Guy Ellington.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris Johnson Ellington; and one son, Mark Ellington and wife Jeannie of Siler City; one grandson.

The family will be receiving friends at the family home. The funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church in Siler City with the Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

JOHN ROBERT RYALS

ANGIER — John Robert Ryals, 60, of Angier died Saturday (7/26/14).

He was born in Johnston County to Mary Lois Tart Ryals and the late William Charles Ryals. He was a member of the Angier Masonic Lodge #0686, the New Bern Shriners and the York Rite. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church but also attended Buies Creek First Baptist Church. He was a Terminal Manager with AAA Cooper Transportation where he worked for 26 years.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buies Creek First Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Hannah Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Benson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at the home.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jean Ryals; a daughter, Laura Morrill and husband Robert of Angier; a son, John Ryals Jr. and wife Shelley of Spivey’s Corner; two sisters, Barbara Taylor and husband David of Four Oaks and Jo Ann Moore of Angier; a brother, Charles Ralph Ryals and wife Pam of Benson; and two grandchildren.

GENTRY T. FRYE

CARTHAGE — Gentry T. Frye, 85, of Carthage, died Saturday (7/26/14) at Manor Care in Pinehurst.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and was a prisoner of war for 33 months. He worked as a mechanic for 36 years at Pinehurst Garage and then Clark Chevrolet/Cadillac until he retired in 1990. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, David.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lilly O. Frye; one daughter, Lynn Blue (John) of Pinebluff; one son, Steven G. Frye (Sue) of Sanford; one brother, William Frye (Jewel) of Sanford; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Leroy Crump, 84, who died Tuesday (7/22/14), was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Knotts Funeral Home with the Rev. George E.L. Headen officiating. Interment was at Williams Family Cemetery in Apex.

Soloist was Sheila Crump.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Marcell Haynes Chesney, 87, who died Saturday (7/19/14), was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Smith Sr. officiating. Burial was at Lee Memory Gardens.

The First Calvary Baptist Church choir sang.

Pallbearers were the Masonic Lodge 101.

SANFORD — Funeral service and entombment for Lillian Southern Fox, 84, of Sanford, who died Thursday (7/24/14), was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Lee Memory Gardens Chapel Mausoleum with the Rev. Craig Dodson officiating.

Eddie and Debbie Oldham sang two songs.

Pallbearers were Eddie Wester, Greg Wester, Jimmy Able, Brandon McLamb, James Brown and Landon Wester.

SANFORD — John Wesley Palmer Jr., 55, of 659 Taylor Chapel Church Road, Sanford, died Thursday (7/24/14) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

He is survived by his companion, Tawana Marsh; four children, Nicole Cheek, Tiffany Harrington (Adrian), Tobias Palmer and Mia Palmer; stepson, Johnathan Blue; four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren; two sisters, JoAnn Bethea and Denise Covington (Allen); Godmother, Lessie Staton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsboro. Burial will follow at Taylor Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Sanford.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Ella Ashley Tippett, 98, of Sanford, who died Friday (7/25/14), was held Monday at 11 a.m. at Tramway Baptist Church with Dr. John Allen officiating. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Durham.

Violet Bullard was pianist and Sherry Naylor was soloist. Sherry Naylor and Violet Bullard sang a duet. The congregation sang one song.

Pallbearers were Sammy King, Donnie Thomas, Laurence Poindexter, Edward Parker, Gregory Parker and Trevor Hackworth.

HARLEN LLOYD HARRIS

SANFORD — Harlen Lloyd Harris, 88, of Sanford, died Monday (7/28/14) at Parkview Retirement Center.

He was born in Goshen, Ky., son of the late George Palin Harris and Shirley Sands Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents and was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Baptist Chapel Church with the Rev. Alex Smith officiating. A funeral service will also be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fern Creek Funeral Home in Louisville, Ky. Burial with military honors will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Cemetery in Louisville.

He is survived by his daughter, Marian Harris Brinley and husband Tom of Sanford; sons, Thomas Lloyd Harris and wife Joann of Florida and Timothy Scott Harris of Shepherdsville, Ky.; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway, and on Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m. at Fern Creek Funeral Home in Louisville.
