SAMUEL ALEXANDER BROWN
PINEHURST — Samuel “Sam” Alexander Brown, 71, of Pinehurst, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
Sam was born March 1, 1943 in Adel, Georgia to the late Samuel Buie Brown and Dona Scoggins Brown. The family moved to North Carolina in 1944. He attended Sanford Central High School in Sanford, NC and graduated in 1961. He attended NC State University, Campbell University, and ultimately East Carolina University in earning his undergraduate in Business Administration in 1967. He went on to earn a Master's Degree in Business at East Carolina University in 1969.
Sam followed his father into the real estate profession and became Property Sales Manager at Carolina Trace in the late 1970s. After running his own real estate company in Sanford for a few years, Sam worked at Foxfire Resort and Pinehurst Properties - also in the real estate department.
In 1987, Sam opened up his own real estate company in downtown Pinehurst - The Property Center of Pinehurst, and ultimately renamed it The Real Estate Center of Pinehurst.
Sam is survived by his wife of 27 years, Betty “Bunny” Shaw Brown; sons, Samuel Buchanan Brown (44) of Mooresville, NC; Alexander Shaw Brown (25) of Pinehurst; daughter, Mary “Molly” Jenett Jaillet (38) of Pinehurst; son-in-law, Master Sgt. Richard “Zeb” Jaillet (37) of Pinehurst; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Harrill Brown (43) of Mooresville and five grandchildren (Morgan Brown, Madison Brown, Olivia Brown, Ally Jaillet, and Sawyer Jaillet); brother, William Timothy Brown of Johnson City, TN and sister, Dona “Dian” Brown of Sanford.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home Chapel in Southern Pines. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately by the family.

BETTY JEAN ALLEYNE
CARTHAGE — Betty Jean Alleyne, 68, of 2972 Underwood Road, Carthage, died Saturday (3/15/14) at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
She is survived by three children, Yvette Alleyne, Kim Alleyne Johnson (Randolph), and Kyle Ryan Knig; two sisters, Gileria Meadows and Veronica Robinson Washington (Kenny); three brothers, Nevilon Meadows, Tillimon Meadows and David Robinson; eight grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Star of Hope Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

GLADYS THOMAS MARION
CARTHAGE — Gladys Thomas Marion, 92, of Carthage, died Tuesday (3/18/14) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
She was born in Lee County to the late Stacy and Irene Gaster Thomas. She received her B.S. degree in Education from Asheville College where she served as vice president of the student body. She was also awarded membership into the National Honor Society "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke L. Marion Jr.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Carthage United Methodist Church, where she was a member. The Rev. Mattheue Locklear will be officiating. Entombment will follow in the Cross Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
She is survived by three sons, Luke L. Marion III and wife Joan of Winston-Salem, Keith Marion and wife Camie of Southern Pines, and Scott Marion and wife Debbie of Clemmons; four grandchildren and two stepgrandsons.
The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage from 6 to 8 p.m. today and other times at the home.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Mary Stewart Perry of Sanford, who died Saturday (3/15/14), was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church by Joel Cameron, the Rev. Gilbert McDowell and the Rev. Dr. W. Gary McCollough. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
During the service, soloist was Alison Wann and the pianist was Melanie Underwood. The church choir also sang.
Pallbearers were Boyd Bradford, Ernest Dalrymple, Mike Gaster, John Ed Matthews, William Matthews, David McIver and Don Nicholson.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Thomas Nathaniel Dolby Jr., 15, who died Wednesday (3/12/14), was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Works For Christ Christian Center with Pastor Raymond Boney officiating. Burial was at the Christ Church of Deliverance Church cemetery.
The Christ Church of Deliverance choir sang and Minister Paul Goldston was soloist.

KNIGHTDALE — Pearl Devon Chalmers, 58, of 103 Laurel Breeze Drive, Knightdale, died Friday (3/14/14) at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
She was the daughter of the late Garry Lee and Viola Chance Chalmers.

ANGIER — Albert “Al” Thomas Swink Sr., 83, of Angier, died Tuesday (3/18/14) at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington.
He was born July 23, 1930, in Waynesboro, Va. He was retired from the Government Printing Office. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lee Purnell Swink, and a son, Albert Thomas Swink Jr.
Memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Union Christian Church with Pastor Cary Snelling officiating.

ELIZABETH BRADY TERRY
SILER CITY — Elizabeth "Lib" Brady Terry, 84, of Hillcrest Drive, Siler City, died Tuesday (3/18/14).
She was born in Moore County on Sept. 18, 1929, the daughter of Carl and Loshia (Phillips) Brady. She was a member of Fair Promise United Methodist Church. She was retired from the N.C. Department of Public Health after 30 years of service as a cosmetology inspector. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lewis, Howard and Marcus Brady; and sisters, Marguerite Brady and Ila Mae Brady Dorsett.
She is survived by her Goddaughter, Dorlisa King Flur; numerous nieces, nephews and an extended family of friends.
A family memorial service with the Rev. Allen Overton was held at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

BEAR CREEK — Bobby Gayle Hudson, 58, of 6999 U.S. 421, Bear Creek, died Tuesday (3/18/14) in Hamlet.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Meroney United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
He was a Chatham County native and was a mechanic most of his life. He worked the last few years at We Pump It Portables as a mechanic and truck driver. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gayle Hudson; and brothers, Buddy Michael Hudson and Benny Thomas Hudson.
He is survived by his son, Jonathan Hudson of Bear Creek; mother, Cleo Wicker Hudson of Bear Creek; and brothers, Billy Hudson and wife Martha of Ramseur, and Barry Hudson of Bear Creek.
Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett, and other times at the home of his mother at 12580 Hwy 902, Bear Creek.
