LOIS ANN MARLEY STOKES

SANFORD — Lois Ann Marley Stokes, 80, of Sanford passed away peacefully Sunday, March 23, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Stokes was born in Davidson County, daughter of the late Oscar Jennings Marley and Naomi Spencer Marley, and was preceded in death by her husband, O.B. Stokes. She was a graduate of Women's College, now UNC Greensboro, and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Stokes is survived by two daughters, Sharon S. Spence and husband Terry, and Anne S. Knuth and husband Scott, all of Sanford; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Stokes of W. Hartford, Ct.; three grandchildren, Brittany Spence, Marley Spence, and Maggie Knuth; several nieces and nephews, and special caregivers, Teresa Cardozo, Pat Godsey and Melinda Carlyle.

The family will receive friends beginning at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ladies Parlor at St. Luke United Methodist Church.

ROBERT LANIER JR.

SANFORD — Mr. Robert Lanier, Jr., age 65, of Sanford, NC, died Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born in Lee County, NC on August 12, 1948 to the late James Robert Lanier, Sr. and Beulah Mae Smith Lanier. Robert was a member of Lee's Chapel Christian Church and served as a Deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Gunter Lanier; son, Kenneth Lanier; daughter, Mary Lanier; sister, Carolyn Gunter and husband Billy Ray, all of Sanford. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jordan, Cody, Thomas and Casey Lanier and great-grandchild, Matthew Hampson.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Lee's Chapel Christian Church with Rev. Bruce Parsons and Rev. James Bowden officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the services in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the family home, 1322 Lee's Chapel Road, Sanford, NC 27330.

LILLINGTON — Rex Allen Cockerham Sr., 60, of Lillington, died Sunday (3/23/14) at Wake Medical Hospital in Raleigh.

He was born in Guilford County to the late Dick Cockerham and Minnie Roberts Cockerham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Cockerham, and two sisters, Betty Jones and Linda Hege.

He is survived by his wife, Dora Nall Cockerham; a son, Rex Allen Cockerham Jr. of Spring Lake; a stepdaughter, Penny Inman Cockerham of Lemon Springs; brothers, John Cockerham of Lexington, Jack Cockerham of Thomasville, Don Cockerham of Broadway, Willie Cockerham of Reidsville and Robert Cockerham of Sanford; a sister, Margaret Hege of Deltona, Fla.; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ramon Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

CAMERON — Treeby Ann Harper Flammger, 74, of Cameron, died Friday (3/21/14) at her home.

She was born in Natchez, Miss., on March 10, 1940, to Milton Jackson and Mary Regina Protheroe Harper Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerome T. Flammger; a daughter, Jennifer Sawmiller and husband Dana of Sanford; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

PINEHURST — Joanna Gaeta LaSpada, 90, of Pinehurst, died Saturday (3/22/14) at her home.

A graveside service was held Monday at 11 a.m at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. William Meares officiating.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 1, 1923, to Ciro and Angela Maria D'Apice Gaeta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Elena Gaeta.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Thomas LaSpada Sr.; three stepchildren, Lisa LaSpada-Tripp and Thomas LaSpada, both of New York, and Donna McGurie and husband Thomas of North Carolina; one sister, Ruth Gallo of New York; two brothers, Ralph Gaeta of Southern Pines and Cyrus Gaeta of Connecticut; five stepgrandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

She was born on April 23, 1951 in Germany. She was a member of Crossroads Church in Broadway.

SANFORD — Vivian Hunter Cameron, 75, of Sanford, died Saturday (3/22/14) at her home.

She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Ray Hunter and Zula McNeill Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cathy Diane Cameron; brothers, Thurman Hunter and Billy Ray Hunter; and sister, Edith “Dot” Morgan.

Graveside services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Broadway Town Cemetery with the Rev. Rodney Hunter officiating.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Cameron; sons, Tony L. Cameron and Michael R. Cameron, both of Broadway; sisters, Judy Rosser and husband Jerry of Broadway, Betty Oldham and husband Lacy, and Mary Sue Angel and husband Charles, all of Sanford; and  stepbrother, Wendell “PeeWee” McNeill and wife Sue of Broadway.

GOLDSTON — Everett Lewis “Rabbit” Hayes, 80, of 2613 St. Luke Church Road, Goldston, died Thursday (3/20/14) at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Luke United Church of God in Goldston with the Rev. Drury Underwood officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

He is survived by three daughters, Minister Sabrina McKendall (Elder Thomas McKendall) of Sanford, Sherlene Brooks (Edward) of Goldston and Evangelist Evette Fairley (Minister LeVern Fairly) of Charlotte; two sons, Everett Hayes (Judy) of Mebane and Maurice Hayes of Sanford; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one aunt, and a host of other relatives.

No wake will be held. Family will receive friends at the home.

A viewing will be held today from 2 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

VASS — George Allen “Bud” Simpson, 73, of Vass, died Sunday (3/23/14) at his home.

He was born on April 13, 1940, in Hoke County, to the late Eddie Martin Simpson and Sarah Elizabeth Marks Simpson. He was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Lemon Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Elizabeth Wooten Simpson; four sons, Michael Allen Simpson and wife Fernia, and Ricky Ivan Simpson and wife Karen, all of Vass, Pastor Stephen Wayne Simpson and wife Sylvia, and Darrell Franklin Simpson, all of Sanford; brothers, Ivan Simpson and wife Faye, and Earl Simpson and wife Sue, all of Vass, and Wayne Simpson and wife Barbara of Wallburg; sisters, Frances Harrell Long of Wilmington and Edith Floyd of Vass; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Lemon Springs.

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at Calvary United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Steve Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery.
