ROBERT JACKSON WILKIE

GOLDSTON — Robert Jackson (Jack) Wilkie, 83, of 3078 Roberts Chapel Road, Goldston, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Wilkie was born in Chatham County on October 25, 1930, the son of General Jackson (Jim) Wilkie and Clara (Hancock) Wilkie. He was a graduate of Bonlee High school, Bonlee, NC. Jack was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and a long-time member of the American Legion. He made his career in the textile industry, serving as Vice-President of Manufacturing for Whitin Roberts Company in Sanford, NC for over 40 years.

Jack was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Goldston, NC.

Besides a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was most proud of his public service to the educators, administrators, and children of Chatham County during 34 years of service on the Chatham County Board of Education, including 32 consecutive years as Chairman. He also received the prestigious ORDER of the LONG LEAF PINE for outstanding citizenship.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Faye Wilkie; son, Jimmy Wilkie; grandson, Kenny Lester; and one brother, Raymond Wilkie.

He is survived by one son, Robert Dean Wilkie and wife Phyllis of Liberty, NC; one daughter, Diane Wilkie Lester and husband Lynn of Goldston, NC; one grandson, Brad Wilkie and wife Dana of Asheboro, NC; one granddaughter, Lindy Lester of Chapel Hill, NC; one great-granddaughter, Peyton Wilkie; two great-grandsons, Kenny Lester and Kobe Flynn; one sister, Carol Sloan and spouse Bobby of Goldston, NC and one brother, Harry Dean Wilkie and spouse Lee of Cherry Grove, SC.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

The funeral service will be Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church, 3835 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston, NC 27252 conducted by Pastor Mike Garner and Pastor Ken Harris.

CHARLES DAVID GILMORE SR.

SANFORD — Mr. Charles David Gilmore Sr., age 77, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at his home in Sanford, NC.

He was born in Lee County, NC on January 21, 1937 to the late Doc David Gilmore and Bessie Childress Gilmore.

Mr. Charles Gilmore Sr. was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Gilmore and Bobby Gilmore, and one sister, Rena Gilmore Hunt.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Mauldin Gilmore; one son, Charlie Gilmore of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Tammy Sherman and husband Tim of Lexington, NC; one grandson, Chris Dossenbach and fiancé Daysi Molina of Sanford, NC; one granddaughter, Ashley Dossenbach of Sanford, NC; one brother, Walter Gilmore of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; special family friends, Chris Barnes and Massimo Prola, and man's best friends, Buddy, Dixie, and “E.”

The visitation will be held Saturday, March 29, from 6-8 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, March 30, at 3 PM at Cameron Grove cemetery with the Rev. Gilbert McDowell officiating.

JOHN JAMES O’HARA

WHISPERING PINES — John James O’Hara, 52, of Whispering Pines, died Wednesday (3/26/14) at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene Bibey O’Hara; and brothers, Arthur O’Hara of Whispering Pines, Robert O’Hara and wife Pamela of Pinehurst, and James O’Hara and wife Judy of Hawthorne, N.J.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur O’Hara Sr. and Mary O’Hara, and a brother, Edward O’Hara.

He was born in Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J, attended Midland Park High School and later, Wingate University. He was employed by Pinehurst Tennis Club for many years.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on April 5 at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church, 3820 Vass-Carthage Road, Carthage. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yates-Thagard Baptist Church.

DOROTHY QUINN BURSEY

SANFORD — Dorothy Quinn Bursey, 93, of Sanford, died Monday (3/24/14) at Parkview Retirement Village.

She was born on March 31, 1920, in Buchanan County, Mo. to the late Charles Eugene Quinn and Mida Flournoy Quinn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Reese John Bursey; one son, Thomas Reese Bursey; and one brother, Herbert Flournoy Fishburn.

She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy at Notre Dame. She later studied home Economics at Purdue University. She was co-founder with her husband of Mid-Columbia Chapter of Muscular Dystrophy Associations of America in 1954 in Richland, Wash. She was an active member of the Republican Party since 1937. She was a delegate to Republican National Convention in Dallas in 1984. She was treasurer of N.C. Third District Republican Party for nine years, and was active in Lee County GOP. She was Lee County chairman of “Funderburk for Congress” in 1994 and 1996.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held Saturday, April 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carolina Lakes Country Club.

WILLIAM CHARLES BURRELL

SANFORD — William Charles (Chuck) Burrell, 68, of 8504 Scuppernong Court, Sanford, died Thursday (3/27/14) at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was the son of the late William and Betty Gadd Burrell.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Washington; one son, Troy Burrell of Tenneesee; one daughter, Renee Burrell of Maryland; one brother, Mike Smith of Colorado; two grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

PAULINE MOORE MORRISON

ABERDEEN — Pauline Moore Morrison, 88, of Aberdeen, formerly of Sanford, died Friday (3/28/14) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Ephesus Baptist Church. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh.

She was born in Moore County, daughter of the late Robert Moore and Swannie Hussey Moore, and preceded in death by a son, David Robert Morrison.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Robert Morrison Jr.; one son, Ernest Morrison and wife Paulette of Roswell, Ga.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Monday in the fellowship hall at Ephesus Baptist Church.

STEVEN LEROY MURPHY

CAMERON — Steven Leroy Murphy, 62, of Cameron, died Friday (3/28/14) at his home.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cameron Hill Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Irvin Murphy and Marie Elaine Double Murphy.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Karina Murphy, April Murphy and Shanna Moore, all of Cameron; son, Corey Murphy of Cameron; sister, Renee Schantz (Karl) of Cameron; brother, Bruce Allen Murphy (Dianne) of Cameron; and eight grandchildren.
