FOY NELSON JONES
SANFORD — Foy Nelson “Nick” Jones, 75, of Sanford, passed away on January 19, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
Nick was a loving husband and father, as well as a generous and caring man to all who knew him. Nick was born on November 11, 1937 in Lee County, N.C. to the late Foy Martin Jones and Eva Rogers Jones. He dedicated over 35 years to the United States Military, serving in the U.S. Army and the N.C. National Guard. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He spent many years coaching youth baseball and football and encouraged his players to strive for excellence by being the best player and person that they could be.
Nick is survived by his loving wife, Peggie Smith Jones; one daughter, Alicia Jones Stone of Raleigh, N.C.; one son, Garrett R. Jones and wife Kelli, of Charleston, W.Va.; grandchildren, Bryce and Skyler Jones, and Chris Aldrich; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Mason Aldrich.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Hunt Springs Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Wesley Thomas and Tony Hancox. Interment will be at Lee Memory Gardens following the service.

MICHAEL EDWARD MOODY
SANFORD — Michael Edward Moody, 60, of Sanford, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at his home after a 15-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born on December 28, 1952 in Guilford County, N.C. to the late Charlie and Mary Moody. He had a true love for baseball. Michael also was a member of Cumnock Baptist Church. He was employed with JT Davenport and Sons for many years. He will be missed by his family that he loved so much.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Holt Moody; three daughters, Angie Moody Stone and her husband Andy, Jennifer Moody, and Jessica Moody Cox and her husband Shawn, all of Sanford; one brother, Howard Moody and his wife Teresa; also survived by three grandchildren, Austin Stone, Andy Stone Jr. and Colton Cox.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church. Interment to immediately follow at the church cemetery.

MATTHEW K. JOHNSON
GREENVILLE, N.C. — Mr. Matthew K. Johnson, 39, died Friday, January 18, 2013.
The memorial service will be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Johnson, a native of Huntsville, Alabama, had been a resident of Greenville for the past 6 years. A graduate of Grissom High School in Huntsville, Alabama, he also attended Embry-Riddle Aviation Institute, Orlando, Fl. He was employed with major airlines as a flight dispatcher. Matt was a dedicated and loving husband, father, son and brother, and will be eternally missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Diane; grandparents, Leo and Zola Johnson of Lindsay, Calif., and Jack and Laura Kyle of Athens, Ala.
He is survived by his wife, Ashley Buchanan Johnson; daughters, Beverlynne Lael Johnson of Greenville and Diane Bocchino of Huntsville, Ala.; son, Junah Moody Johnson; father and step-mother, LZ and Debbie Johnson of Winchester, Tn.; brother, Stuart Lee Johnson and wife Pam, and their children, Apollo and Silas of Portland, Ore; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Pansy Buchanan of Greenville; brother-in-law, Britt Buchanan and wife, Ramona; nephews, Solomon and Obadiah; and Big Granny (Linda Revill) and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends following the service at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

LILLINGTON — Wayne Ray Thomas, 62, died Saturday (1/19/13) at E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center in Lillington.
A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late Russell and Jessie Ruth Wilder Thomas, and was preceded in death by a son, Schuyler Thomas. He was co-owner of T&J Motors in Lillington.
Graveside service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Haymes officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Thomas; sister, Barbara T. Wade of Lillington; and brothers, Bobby Thomas and Tommy Thomas, both of Lillington, and Rex Thomas of Raleigh.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Rochelle Williams Walker, 88, who died Friday (1/18/13) at Parkview Retirement Home, was conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with the Rev. G.W. McDowell officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery. The family received friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Pianist was Melanie Underwood. Soloist was the Rev. Tom Welborn. The congregation also sang.
Pallbearers were Hulon Brown, Mark Dean, Josh Marshburn, John Ed Matthews, John Albert Sharpe and Billy Thomas.

ALVIN DEAN HOLDER
CARTHAGE — Alvin Dean Holder, 61, died Saturday (1/19/13) at the FirstHealth Hospice House.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at Powell Funeral Chapel in Southern Pines, conducted by the Rev. Gregg Newton. Burial was at Johnson Grove Cemetery.
He was a native of Moore County and a son of the late Jackie Alvin Holder. He worked for many years as an electrician for Chilsom Electric in Aberdeen.
He is survived by four daughters and three sons; his mother, Lucille Scarboro Holder Danley of Carthage; sisters, Yvonne Holder of Whispering Pines and Patsy Martin of Vass; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Alvin Holder memorial fund; BB&T, Southern Pines, or any other BB&T branch location.

CAMERON — Funeral service for Juanita Upton, 72, who died Saturday (1/19/13), was held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church. Burial was at the church cemetery.
She is survived by two sisters, Glenna Diehl of Thomasville and Avis Cook of Cameron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

SANFORD — Christopher Bullock, infant, died Friday (1/18/13) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
He is survived by his mother, Brenda Marsh Snipes "Chris" of Sanford; his father, Boris Cedric Bullock of Garner; stepfather, Michael Cox of Cameron; grandmother, Brenda Brooks of Sanford; grandparents, Jessie Mae and Weldon McKoy of Cameron; and a host of other relatives and friends.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Frances Davis “Frankie” Woodell, who died Friday (1/18/13), was held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church by Dr. Jeff Clark.
During the service the congregation sang, soloist was Etta Love and the organist was Carole Troutman. A poem was read by Renee’ Thomas.

WINSTON-SALEM — Dorothy Gilmore of 1902 Belden Drive, died Thursday (1/17/13) at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Lee County. She graduated from W.B. Wicker High School in 1945. Later, she graduated from Maco Beauty College. She ran Ms. G's Beauty Salon. She was a member of New Light Baptist Church and also a member of the Double Decker Pinochle Club, the Magnolia Chapter 23rd Order of the Eastern Star PHA, Gate City Beauticians Association, Chapter III and N.C. State Cosmetology Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Gilmore, and her daughter, Rita.
She is survived by two daughters, Clara Elizabeth Rambert (Robert) of Greensboro and Doris Gambrelle (Leroy) of Houston, Texas; two sons, Clarence Gilmore (Brenda) of the home and Reginald Gilmore (Bunnie) of Greensboro; one brother, James McIver of McLeansville; three sisters, Nevada Shoffner and Patricia Martin, both of Greensboro, and Ruth Cox of Cleveland, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Public veiwing will be held Wednesday at Woodard Funeral Home from 1 until 7 p.m. Family visitation will be from 12 until 1 p.m. Thursday at New Light Baptist Church. Funeral service will be at conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday with interment at Lakeview Cemetery.
