GORDON BLAKE WICKER

CORINTH — Gordon Blake Wicker, 88, of Corinth, lost his courageous battle with cancer Saturday, August 17, 2013.

He was born in Chatham County December 7, 1924, son of the late Arthur Blake Wicker and Gail Mims Wicker. He attended Moncure School and was a member of Christian Chapel Christian Church where he served as a past deacon and trustee. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and served in the Philippines. He received the Purple Heart and several other medals. He worked at Saco Lowell for 26 years and retired from Allied Chemical in 1988. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Hill Wicker. He loved people and loved to sit out in the front yard under the big oak tree and have friends stop by and visit. His jokes and great sense of humor will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marie Dickens Wicker of the home; two sons, Nick Wicker of Corinth and Roger Wicker and wife Barbara of Lemon Springs; grandsons, Joshua Wicker and wife Nancy Hart of Greenwood, S.C., and Cody Wicker of Lemon Springs; one great-granddaughter, Willow Psalms of Greenwood, S.C.; and one brother, Jack Wicker of Corinth.

The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and other times at the residence.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Christian Chapel Church with the Rev. George Stallings and the Rev. Greg Presnell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice of Sanford or to Christian Chapel Church, c/o Barbara McCoy, 3557 Pea Ridge Road, New Hill, N.C. 27562.

JEWELL DELORES HOLLOMAN WILLIAMS

SANFORD — Mrs. Jewell Delores Holloman Williams, age 81, of Sanford, N.C., died Sunday, August 18, 2013, at her home.

Mrs. Williams was born on August 5, 1932, in Mobile, Alabama to the late John Holloman and Sezzie Baygents Holloman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Williams; brothers, Clyde Holloman and Howard Holloman and sisters, Mary Aultman and Christine Wood.

She is survived by a son, Charles R. “Rusty” Williams Jr. and wife Kathy of Sanford, N.C.; a daughter, Sharon Barnes and husband Ronnie of Lexington, N.C.; a brother, Bobby Holloman and wife Helen of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; three grandchildren: Jared Barnes, Chris Williams, and Morgan Barnes and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 2201 Hawkins Avenue, Sanford, N.C. with Brother Allen Whitaker officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

LOIS WOMACK PARSON

SANFORD — Lois Womack Parson, 88, died Sunday (8/18/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 12, 1924, in Lee County, to the late Sidney Womack and Eva Herndon Womack. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edd Parson; a son, Jimmy Lewis Parson; sisters, Jennie Dawkins and Nellie Thomas; and brothers, Sidney Womack Jr. and John B. Womack.

She is survived by sons, Jerry Parson and wife Linda of Sanford and Eddie Parson of Monroe; a brother, Franklin Womack of Sanford; and by two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Baptist Chapel Church at 2413 Buckhorn Road. At other times, the family will be at the home of Jerry and Linda Parson, 1718 Buckhorn Road.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Baptist Chapel Church with the Rev. Alex Smith and the Rev. George Stallings officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

JANICE BROOKS WHITE HARRIS

SANFORD — Memorial service for Janice Brooks White Harris, 80, who died Monday (8/12/13), was held at 3 p.m. Saturday at East Sanford Baptist Church by the Rev. Robbie L. Gibson and the Rev. Bob Yandle. A private committal service preceded the memorial service at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

During the service, the Praise Team along with the congregation sang. Memories from the family were presented by the grandchildren. A video presentation of “Amazing Grace” was by grandson, Harris Lanier. Musician was Suzanne Bowen.

Pallbearers were Dee Harris, Ronnie Jones, Terry Jones, Eddie Truelove, JB Vick, Craig Wemyss, Todd Wemyss and Hill Yancey.

SANFORD — Sylria Tate, 78, of 1005 Martin St., died Friday (8/16/13) at her residence.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be held at Lee Memory Gardens.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Roy Evans Mashburn Sr. was held Monday at Miller-Boles Chapel with the Rev. Rudy Holland and the Rev. Bob Brown officiating.

One special song was sung by the congregation. Pianist was Pat Wright. One song was performed by Vernon Cheek, who played guitar; Brian Goldston played fiddle, and Tim Callicutt played the mandolin.

Following the funeral, an entombment was held at Buffalo Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Gilleland, Sheriff Tracy Carter, Robert Reives II, Marie Wheeler, Wilson Cox and Frank Wheeler.
