MARY MORRISON MAULDIN

WEST END — Mary Morrison Maudlin, age 88, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.

Ms. Maudlin was predeceased by a son, Robert I. Maudlin and a son-in-law, Warren E. Wicker.

Survivors include daughters, Lynn Wicker of Sanford, N.C. and Kathy Sauls and husband Larry of Chapel Hill, N.C.; grandsons, Daren Berube, Lars and Sarah, and Jon and Kimberly, and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Miller-Boles Funeral Home at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013. The family will receive friends at other times at the Wicker residence.

SYVADA GRISSOM HOLDER

LILLINGTON — Mrs. Syvada Grissom Holder, 90, of Lillington, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

She was born in Vance County, the daughter of Walter Graham and Nancy Parrish Grissom. Syvada was a life long member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church. She worked at Ft. Bragg during wartime. She retired from Cornell Dubilier in 1985. Her later years were spent babysitting her grandchildren, caring for her husband and caring for her great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alton Ray Holder; a beloved granddaughter, Rachel Brooks Currin; her parents; and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Benton W. Oakes III officiating. Burial will follow in the Holder Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Spring Hill United Methodist Church Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times at the home of James and Elaine Currin, 745 Leaflet Ch. Rd., Lillington.

She is survived by daughter, Elaine H. Currin and husband James of Lillington; sons, Graham F. Holder and wife Sylvia of Broadway, Eddie Ray Holder and wife Helen of Lillington; grandchildren, Candace Stephens (Bo), Bridget Cox (Richie), Beth C. McGarity (Hannable), Matthew J. Currin (Shannon), Leslie H. Buchanan (Kelly), Jeremy A. Holder (Crystal), Janna A. Holder, Marie Long and Jim Long; great-grandchildren, Mitchell McGarity, Phillip McGarity, Collin McGarity, Hayden Currin, Owen Currin, Kamie Buchanan, Morgon Buchanan, Raylan Holder, Olivia Cox, Griffin Cox, Brayden Stephens, Cade Stephens, Marianne Long and Jaxon Long.

Family has requested that memorial donations be made to Spring Hill United Methodist Church, 1960 Spring Hill Church Rd., Lillington, N.C. 27546.

SANFORD — Parker Grey Maultsby, infant, died Monday (8/19/13) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

He is survived by his parents, Josiah and Laura (Clark) Maultsby IV; one sister, Madelyn Maultsby of the home; maternal grandparents, Vernon and Doan Clark of Siler City; paternal grandparents, Nancy and Alex Maultsby of Zebulon; maternal great-grandparents, Frank and Barbara Clark of Siler City; paternal great-grandmother, Edna Lemmond of Laurinburg; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City.

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church in Siler City with the Rev. Jason Golden and the Rev. Brian Parker officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

CAMERON — Meagan Rachell Brown, 19, died Sunday (8/18/13) at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at San-Lee Chapel with Pastor Dale Sauls and Chaplain Ken Rahal officiating. Burial will follow at Cameron Cemetery.

She was born in Chapel Hill on Oct. 9, 1993 to Richard Kelly and Connie Davis Brown. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Kelly Brown, and a daughter, Addyson Kelly Hughes.

She is survived by her mothers, Connie Davis Brown and Brandy Brown; one sister, Mariah Brown of Cameron; three brothers, Jason Brown and fiancé Tonya, and De'Kelly Gantlin, all of Cameron, and Jonathan Brown and wife Pam of Broadway; great-grandmother, Johnsie Brown of Cameron; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home.

BEAR CREEK — Dorothy Kidd Hancock Martindale, 90, of Tom Hancock Road, died Monday (8/19/13) at FirstHealth Hospice Palliative Care in Pinehurst.

She was born in Chatham County on May 23, 1923, the daughter of Rev. John C. and Lula (Caviness) Kidd. She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Thomas W. Hancock Sr., and later Floyd Martindale; her parents; son, Thomas Woodrow Hancock Jr.; brothers, Charlie, Lewis, Henry and Norman; and sisters, Margaret, Cornie and Cordia.

She is survived by two daughters, Judith H. Nall and husband Ritchie of Bear Creek, and Diana H. Hornsby and husband Jim of Lake Wateree, S.C.; one son, Donnie Lee Hancock and wife Emily of Burlington; one sister, Johnsie K. Bouldin of Bennett; daughter-in-law, Lisa Sterling of Greensboro; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City, and other times at the home of Judith and Ritchie Nall, 774 Tom Hancock Road, Bear Creek.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Goldston with Ritchie Nall officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

GORDON BLAKE WICKER

CORINTH — Funeral service for Gordon Blake Wicker, 88, who died Saturday (8/17/13), was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Christian Chapel Christian Church with the Rev. George Stallings and the Rev. Greg Presnell officiating. Burial with military honors followed at the church cemetery.

During the service, Teresa Pilson was the soloist and pianists were Gerri Hearn and Anne Burke. Military honors were provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Pallbearers were Marion Poe, Ken Harris, Chris George, Christian George, Jimmy Pollard and Don Harrington.

Honorary pallbearers were Gary Holt, Charles Angel, Melvin Rosser, Mike Paschal, Bud Patterson, Bobby Johnson and Edd Screws.
