CLAYBERT DELANO LEWIS

BEAR CREEK — Mr. Claybert Delano Lewis, 78, of Bear Creek, NC died at the V.A. Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, Monday, August 18th, 2014.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 25, at 2 p.m. in the Clinton Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Dabbs officiating.

Born in 1936 in Sampson County, Mr. Lewis was the son of the late David and Hazel Mae Faircloth Lewis. He was a veteran of the United States Military, and was a retired employee with Carter-Weber Manufacturing Company. He was the widower of Betty Joyce Lewis.

He is survived by one daughter, Denise L. Wright of Little Rock, AR; one son, Randy Delano Lewis and wife (Karen) of Bear Creek, NC; one sister, Jonell Gann and one brother, Kenneth Ray Smith, both of Little Rock, AR; five grandchildren, Jonathan Wright, Leia Wright, Kristy Lewis, Ray Lewis and Kevin Lewis and one great-grandson, Timothy Fox.

The family will receive friends Saturday night, August 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.

PATRICIA HOMESLEY MILLS

SANFORD — Patricia “Pat” Homesley Mills, 71, passed away peacefully at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center on August 20, 2014, surrounded by her closest friends and family members.

Patricia was born August 17, 1943 in Sanford to the late James Smith Homesley and Frances Boyd Homesley.

A Sanford native, Pat was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Dee Mills, and leaves behind her daughter, Linda “Tedi” Mills Davis and husband Robert; two grandsons, Jonathan and Jacob O'Quinn; three brothers, James Lewis Homesley and wife Ann of Goldston, Freddie Homesley of Sanford, Greg Homesley and wife Jill of Angier.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the Lemon Springs Baptist Church in Lemon Springs on Saturday, August 23, 2014 with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

CHARLES EDWARD NANCE

LAURINBURG — Mr. Charles Edward Nance, age 77, of Laurinburg, NC, formerly of Sanford, NC, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Richmond County, NC on June 2, 1937 to the late Charles Raymond Nance and Jean Beamon Nance. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Moser Nance. Charles was an independent NASCAR vendor. His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt and enjoyed working around all the NASCAR drivers and fans. He was a devoted brother to all his brothers and sisters.

Charles is survived by two sons, David Nance and wife Charla of Sanford, Eddie Nance of Sanford; daughter, Brenda Nance Hogue & husband Lyle of Lillington; brothers, Bill Nance of Norwood, NC, Thurman Nance and wife Mary Ann of Sanford; sisters, Betty Nance Lee of Sanford, Clair Nance Ransome of Albany, GA, Una Jane Nance Murray and husband Phillip of Dunn; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews, Daniel Hamrick, Deborah H. Burge, Richard Lee, Glenn Lee III, Aimee M Sharrett, Michelle M. Bell, Ray Ransom, Vic Ransom, Cindy R. Burgess, Tony Ransom, Michael, Chris & Marc Nance, Susan N. LaMarre, Lisa Nance, Richard Nance, and Patrick Nance.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Lee Memory Gardens with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Charles Duncan McLeod Jr., who died Sunday (8/17/14), was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Hill Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Keith Miller. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

During the service, Mike Spivey played the organ and the declaration of life was by Larry Jackson and the congregation sang.

SANFORD — Elder Betty Joann Johnson, 49, of 151 Pyrant Road, Sanford, died Monday (8/18/14) at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.

She is survived by her husband, Henry Lee Johnson; children, Cassie LaToya Johnson and Octavia Shane' Johnson; two grandchildren; sisters, Judy Mitchell and Glenda Fay Person; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Works For Christ Christian Center. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Oliver Johnson Sr., 94, who died Wednesday (8/13/14), was conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Smith Sr. officiating. Entombment was at Lee Memory Gardens.

The church choir sang.

Soloist was Dorothy Matthews.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

  EUNICE THOMAS BOGAN

SANFORD — Funeral service for Eunice Thomas Bogan, 88, of Sanford, who died Saturday (8/16/14), was conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Juniper Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial followed at the Broadway Town Cemetery.

During the service, Ronnie Byrd was the pianist and soloist. The Juniper Springs Baptist Church Choir sang, as did the quartet of Ronnie Byrd, Jerry Bradley, Joy Hackney and Cindy Buchanan. The congregation sang.

Poems were read by Deborah Garrison and Robbie Bogan.

Pallbearers were James Wilkins, Jason Wilkins, Ken Bogan, Robbie Bogan, Zeb Stackpole and Charles Thomas.

Arrangements were by Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
