MARSHALL B. “MAJOR” MOORE

SANFORD — Marshall B. “Major” Moore, 80, of Sanford, passed away Friday (6/27/14) at his home. Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home Chapel.

He was born in Indianapolis, Ind., a son of the late Woody Marshall Moore and Helen Rodman Moore, and was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Underhill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Baker Moore; daughters, Tracey Marrero, Annette Holcomb and husband Robert Earl, and Brittany Nicole Moore, all of Sanford, Angelia Legner of Indiana and Veronica Grabill of Ohio; sons, Woody Marshall Moore of Sanford, Tony Moore of Texas and Michael Moore of Tennessee; sisters, Carol McSpadden and Myrland Plummer of Indiana; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, before the memorial service, at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

DARRELL LEWIS BUIE

RALEIGH — Darrell Lewis Buie, 55, of 700 Grantland Drive, Raleigh, died Thursday (6/26/14) at Laurels of Garner.

He was the son of Ethel Elizabeth Buie and the late Ivory Roberts, Sr.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday (7/1/14) at Rush Metropolitan AME Zion Church in Raleigh. Viewing will be one hour prior to service.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Grace Buie of the home; one daughter, SaSha Buie of Hamlet; one brother, Ivory Roberts Jr. of Maryland; two sisters, Sonya Pickett of Laurinburg and Imani Roberts of Washington, D.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

WESLEY LEE FREEMAN

SANFORD — Wesley Lee Freeman, 54, of Lillington, died Wednesday (6/25/14) at his home.

Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Broken Wing Fellowship FWB Church in Raleigh.

He was born in Lee County and was a truck driver with USXpress. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Wesley Wicker.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Hastings Freeman; daughter, Sandi Allgood, of Fayetteville; two daughters, Tracy Kindle Allgood of Fuquay-Varina and Stacey Lee Allgood of Benson; and five grandchildren.

The family will greet friends following the memorial service.

JACKIE GREEN
PITTSBORO — Jackie Green, 72, died Friday, June 27, 2014 while at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

He was born in New York, July 19, 1941 to Marie Farrell and James Green. Jackie was a lifelong preacher and truck driver. He was married to Mary Catherine Burke for 55 years. They had three children and four grandchildren. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and adored spending time with his grandkids at dance recitals and ballgames. Jackie was known for passing out gold coins to special people and to those in need.

In addition to his wife, Jackie is survived by his sons, Keith Green of Pittsboro and Ken Green and his wife, Sandy, of Pittsboro; his daughter, Denise Badders and her husband, Allen, of Pittsboro; and his grandchildren, Stacey Badders, Timothy Badders and his wife Karen, Robby Badders, and Kenley Green.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2014 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Bynum Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Qualls officiating. Burial will follow at Meroney UMC in Bear Creek with the Rev. Jim Whittaker offering the committal service.

MARJORIE HELEN CROSS HONEYCUTT
SPRING, TEXAS — Marjorie Helen Cross Honeycutt was received by her Lord on May 26, 2014 at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving husband and family, at her home in Spring, Texas.

She was born May 13, 1927 in New Hill, N.C. to Iula Dickens Cross and James E. Cross living a full life that honored her Lord and Savior. During the early days, she and her brothers and sisters were regular members of Buckhorn Methodist Church, singing in the choir and playing the piano during services at Corinth. Helen was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Moncure High School and also sang “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. Helen loved to sing and play the piano. She enjoyed nature, competitive bowling, and tennis. Helen and her sisters entertained the troops at the Raleigh USO during W.W. II. She loved spending time with her family and had a way of making each individual feel special. She gave herself and her love unconditionally and was the ultimate peacemaker. Compassion, love and forgiveness were her mantra.

Helen is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, David (Gene) Honeycutt; children, David G. (Elizabeth Honeycutt Jr., Susan Honeycutt (Joseph) Allessi, Helen C. Honeycutt; sister, Madge Cross Brinson of Wisconsin; devoted grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, Judy Palmer Overby and Nancy Gunter Walden, both of Sanford, Joan Palmer Frazier and Mary Gunter Perkins, both of Moncure, Theresa Cross Williams of Augusta, Ga., and Linda Brinson Fox of Wisconsin; nephews, Ed Brinson of Wisconsin, Jerry W. Gunter of New Hill, and Mike Cross of Moncure, Chatham County commissioner.

Mrs. Honeycutt was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James E. Cross; sisters, Mary Cross Gunter and Hazel Cross Palmer; nephews, Donald Gunter and James E. Cross III, and niece, Georgia Palmer Moore.

A memorial service and inurnment will take place at Buckhorn United Methodist Church in Corinth, N.C. at a later date.

Cremation was provided by Kirk Mortuary Service of Houston, Texas.
