SANFORD — Funeral service for Elizabeth Nell Dixon Covil, 77, who died Monday (10/28/13) at Parkview Retirement Center, was conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Flat Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Gary McCollough and the Rev. Randy Locklear officiating. Eulogy was by her son, Eddy Covil. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Pianist was Gail Luck. A trio consisting of Fran Thomas, Judith Nance and Linda Hunt sang. The congregation also sang.

Pallbearers were Nathaniel Jordan, Daniel McFarland, Joey Thomas, Mike West, Tom Luck and David Aycock.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.


SANFORD — Graveside service for Larry Arthur Gunter, 65, of Durham, formerly of Sanford, who died Sunday (10/27/13), was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Turner's Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce MacInnes officiating.

Those attending the graveside service sang one selection.

Pallbearers were Brad Thomas, Nick Johnson, Lynn Gunter, Bobby Cheatham, Brian Fowler and Jeff Coffey.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.


SANFORD — Alexander Baker, 69, died Tuesday (10/29/13) at his home.

He was born in Robeson County on Jan. 11, 1944, to the late David Henry Baker and Carrie Pate Baker. He worked for GKN Automotive and served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Page Baker; two sons, Alexander Baker Jr. and wife Faye and Hubert Lee Baker, all of Sanford; a daughter, Patty Bowles of Sanford; a brother, William Baker of Broadway; a sister, Almeda Welch of Olivia; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow Monday at 2 p.m. at The Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
