ELIZABETH BARRINGER THACKER

SANFORD — Elizabeth Barringer Thacker, 88, died Friday, Nov. 1.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 4, at St. Luke United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 1 p.m. in the church parlor. Interment will be at Floral Garden Cemetery in High Point at a later date.

Born on November 10, 1924, Betty was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Annie Ruth Barringer. She was preceded in death by an older brother and sister, Charles Franklin Barringer, Jr. and Ruth McIver Barringer Nowell. She is survived by a brother, John Marshall Barringer of Carthage, and his wife Elizabeth.

A graduate of Flora MacDonald College, Mrs. Thacker taught for several years before “retiring” to become a full-time wife and mother. She and her family lived for many years in High Point, where she was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Betty taught Sunday school for many years and was President of the United Methodist Women. After moving to Sanford, Betty was a member of the Lucille Hunter Class at St. Luke and lived at Parkview Retirement Home.  She will be remembered by family and friends for her lively sense of humor and caring heart.

Mrs. Thacker was married to Dr. James Allen Thacker of High Point, who predeceased her. She is survived by three children:  a daughter, Susan Thacker Laudate of Sanford and husband Michael; a son, James Allen Thacker, Jr. and wife Leslie of Collettesville; and a daughter Ruth Thacker Sedon and husband Bill of Greensboro. She is also survived by three grandchildren: James Michael Laudate and wife Kelli, Jennifer Laudate Spivey and husband Chad, and Ethan Andrews Thacker; and four great-grandchildren: William Michael, Laney Elizabeth, and Carsen JoLynn Laudate; and Cole Grayson Spivey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Building Fund at First Presbyterian Church of Carthage (PO Box 397 Carthage, NC 28327), the J. Allen Thacker Scholarship Fund at High Point University, or St. Luke UMC.

TONY JOHNSON BYRD

LILLINGTON — Tony Johnson Byrd, 55, of Lillington, died Friday (11/01/13) at his residence. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lillington.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbon Johnson Byrd, and his stepdaughter, Tiffany Lemons.  

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, Lillington, with Pastor Robbie O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church and all other times at the home.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Pansy Byrd, of the home; mother, Earnestine Byrd Wallace and husband Norman of Lillington; three daughters, Christy Tickle and husband Justin of Sanford, Amanda Holt and Taylor Byrd; son, Timmy Lemons and wife Courtney of Spring Lake; two brothers, Kenny Byrd and wife Bobbie of Lillington, and W.J. Byrd of Lillington; sister, Varonda Byrd Strouth and husband Bryant of Lillington; and six grandchildren.

MORVEN — Perry Little, 72, of the 10000 block of Highway 145 South, Morven, died Friday (11/01/13).
