SARA CLEGG COX

SANFORD — Sara Clegg Cox of Sanford died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Parkview Retirement Home.

Sara was born on November 18, 1936. She was the daughter of Alvis Bynum and Davie Clegg and was preceded in death by her parents and brothers John, Wilbur and Alvis. Sara's husband of 30 years, J. Paul Cox, passed away in 1994.

She is survived by three loving stepchildren: Gary Cox and wife Susan of Sanford, Beverly Cranford and husband Mike of Carthage, Paula Rogers and husband Ken of Corneilus. Also surviving are six grandchildren: John Cox and wife Carrie of Nashville, TN; Jason Cox and wife Mandy of Lakeland, FL; Ashley Harrington and husband Brian of Sanford; Mandy Kelly and husband Brian of Shallotte; Shannon Smith and husband Derek of Pinehurst; Ansley Suarez and husband Drew of Corneilus. Sara is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.

Sara grew up in the Moncure community and graduated from Deep River School. She was a graduate of UNC Greensboro and with brothers Wilbur and John, made her career at King Roofing in Sanford. She was a member of Center United Methodist Church.

Sara will be remembered by many as THE avid NCSU Wolf Pack Fan. In her later years she enjoyed attending games and tailgating with good friends Lynwood Mann and Roy & Jamie Holt. She also enjoyed morning walks with her good friend Katie Holt.

The family will receive friends at Center United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

SUE ANN WILLIAMS BONNER LOTTER

SANFORD — Mrs. Sue Ann Williams Bonner Lotter, age 66, of Sanford, NC died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 at Duke University Hospital.

She was born in Franklinville, NY on August 12, 1947 to the late Henry Griffith Williams and Mary Eliza Myrick Williams. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her two husbands Alan Bonner and Ralph Lotter. Mrs. Lotter was a middle school physical education teacher. She was a member of Barbecue Presbyterian Church where she sang in the church choir. She loved golfing, bowling, playing bridge and was a past president and active member of the Western Harnett Lions Club. In recent years she did extensive traveling and loved cruising.

She is survived by sisters Elizabeth Truby and husband Bernie of Sanford and Dorothy Montgomery and husband James of Syracuse, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins and special friend Helen Hey.

A memorial service will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Barbecue Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sandy Williams presiding. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.

EDWIN HOWARD SWARTZ

SANFORD — Edwin Howard Swartz, 77, died Monday (11/4/13).

The family will receive friends and family from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the home.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter Karen; sons Michael and wife Audra, and William and wife Mary; and nine grandchildren.

Born in Winston-Salem on Dec. 13, 1935, he grew up in Salisbury and moved to Sanford as a young man. An entrepreneur, he started and ran several businesses in Sanford including Santronics Inc., Static Control Components Inc., and what is now the 3M facility in Sanford.

JIMMY WORTH DOTSON

MANASSAS, Va. — Jimmy Worth Dotson, 69, died Sunday (10/27/13).

He was born Sept. 22, 1944 in Sanford. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Charles Herman Dotson, and his mother, Margie (Goodman) Dotson. He was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and attended Virginia Tech and Prince William Junior College. He worked 40 years with heavy equipment for Y & B Crane Rental and Laurel Equipment.

He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Worth Dotson and James Caldwell Dotson; sister, Judy Dotson Tate; brother-in-law, Dr. Morris L. Tate; one nephew and one niece.

The family will have a private service at Mt. Vale Cemetery in Galax, Va., at a later date.

ALEXANDER BAKER

SANFORD — Funeral service for Alexander Baker, 69, who died Tuesday (10/29/13), was held Monday at 11 a.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Billy Douglas officiating. Burial followed at 2 p.m. at The Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Recorded music was played.

Pallbearers were Heath McNeill, William Boyce, Chad Gunter, George Baker, David Baker and Russell Boyce.

HORACE GREELY DAWSON

SANFORD — Horace Greely Dawson, 76, died Sunday (11/3/13) at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center.

He was born on June 11, 1937 in Thorsby, Ala., to the late Richard Carl and Elsie Mae Dawson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, James Dawson. He served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Dawson; one son, Tony Dawson and wife Christina; one daughter, Sandy Whitehead and husband Scottie; one brother, Charles Dawson; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today from 2 to 3 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

HORACE AVERETT CAMERON

CAMERON — Horace Averett Cameron, 81, died Saturday (11/2/13) at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.

He was born in Moore County to the late Parker Holmes Cameron and Cecil Agness Watts. He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Cameron Ross and Olga Belle Cameron. He worked at Kelly Springfield Tire Company for many years and was a barber in Cameron for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Clara M. Cameron, and sister, Louise Danley of Cameron.

The family will be at the home of Fred Murphy, 4401 Cypress Church Road, Cameron.

Funeral service will be conducted at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m. today with the Pastor John Brown and Dr. Carl Matthews officiating. Burial with follow at Grace Chapel Church Cemetery.

RUTH LAWRENCE CRAIG

SANFORD — Funeral service for Ruth Lawrence Craig, 88, who died Friday (11/1/13), was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cool Springs Baptist Church by Pastor Matt Martin and Pastor Don Luellen. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

During the service, the congregation sang. Organist was Frances Phillips and pianist was Myra Cole.

Pallbearers were Adam Craig, Brandon Craig, Britton Craig, Scott Jackson, Jeffery Smith and Ronnie Turner. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Lois Sutphin Sunday School Class.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Elizabeth Barringer Thacker, 88, who died Friday (11/1/13), was held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Gene Cobb and the Rev. Jaye White. Interment will be at Floral Garden Cemetery in High Point at a later date.

During the service, the congregation sang and the soloist was David Mellnik. Organist was Dianne Stanley.
