JO ANN M. VALENTINE

SANFORD — Jo Ann M. Valentine, 66, of Sanford passed away Friday, November 8, 2013 at her home.

She was born on May 5, 1947 in Lee County to the late Clarence Ray Morrow and Beulah Morrow.

Jo Ann enjoyed making ceramics, shopping, cooking for her family and working outdoors with her husband. She loved the mountains and trips with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one step-grandson, Travis Valentine.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Joe Valentine; two daughters, Sheri Wicker Stone and Tonya W. Wicker; four step-children, Kathy T. Sheffield, Jackie V. Sheffield, Billy C. Gardner and Sherry V. Walters; one brother, Jonathan Wayne Morrow; grandchildren, Sgt. Brian McLean, Christopher McLean and Ashley Kelly; step-grandchildren, Katti Sheffield, Daniel Sheffield, Joseph Sheffield, Jeremy McDonald, Justin McDonald and Rylee Walters; one great-granddaughter, Hailey Victoria; Also survived by 6 step great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 13th at 6 p.m. at First Congregational Christian Church, 328 McIver Street, Sanford, N.C. 27330.

RICHARD ROY YARBOROUGH

SANFORD — Richard “Ricky” Roy Yarborough, 57, died Friday (11/8/13).

He was born in Lee County to Deurene Sharpe Yarborough and the late James Franklin Yarborough. He was employed as a carpenter.

He is survived by his mother, Deurene Sharpe Yarborough, and a brother, Jimmy Allen Yarborough.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Swann Station Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Blackmon and the Rev. Curtis Norris presiding. Burial was at Cameron Grove Cemetery.

A nephew, Jody Yarborough, gave life remarks. Pianist was June Driggers. Soloists were the Rev. Blackmon and the Rev. Norris. Recorded music was played.

Pallbearers were Norman Coore, John Hickman, Mark Hickman, Pat Holman, Keith Gilmore and Johnny Womack.

SANFORD — David Jefferson McLean, 62, of 94 Tempting Church Road, died Saturday (11/9/13) at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.

RANDALL GLENN HARDEN

STATESBORO, Ga. — Randall Glenn “Randy” Harden, 50, died Saturday (11/9/13) in Ogeechee Area Hospice.

He was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, and was raised in Sanford, N.C., and Waycross, Ga., where he graduated from Waycross High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served from 1984 until 1988, was a graduate of Georgia Southern University and had lived in Statesboro for the past 25 years. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and served on the church Vestry and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. He was preceded in death by his father, William R. Harden Jr.

He is survived by three children, Allison Wolford and her husband Matt of Dawsonville, John Harden of Athens and Will Harden of Statesboro; mother, Janice Harden of Raleigh; brother, William R. Harden III and his wife Beth of Apex; and one uncle.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Joan Kilian officiating. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Plymouth.

BUDDY HULON ROGERS

ASHEBORO — Buddy Hulon Rogers, 76, of 1302 Old Cox Road, died Saturday (11/9/13) at his residence.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur with the Rev. Paul Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.

He was a native of Lee County and retired from Sapona with 30-plus years of service. He was a graduate of Deep River High School where he played football and was involved in many other sports. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Eugene Rogers; parents, Alton and Mackie Collins Rogers; sister, Mary Margaret Rogers; and brothers, Robert Edward Lee Rogers, James Thurman Rogers and Thomas Davis Rogers.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia York Rogers; daughter, Angela Draughn and husband Tim of Asheboro; son, Samuel Lee Rogers and wife Debra of Asheboro; sisters, Pauline Stone, Lois Holder, Vernell Rogers and Betty Speagle, all of Sanford; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Ramseur.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Ida Beraglia, 64, died Wednesday (10/30/13).

She is survived by her husband, Roberto; daughter, Diana (Dennis) Matthews; sister, Adriana Volpe; brother, Tony (Christina) Lombardi; one grandson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

JOHNSON DELOS O’DANIEL

CHAPEL HILL — Johnson Delos O’Daniel died Friday (11/8/13).

He was born Feb. 22, 1931 to Blanche and Johnson O’Daniel in Chatham County. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Leigh O’Daniel; a granddaughter; and his sisters, Hazel Allen and Marjorie Pickard. He graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Carrboro United Methodist Church where he served on many boards and committees and was a member of the church choir.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Partin O’Daniel; three daughters, Beth Kimberly Easterling, Lisa Kay McGee and Cassandra Dee Copeland; three sons-in-law, David Easterling, David McGee and Mitchell Copeland; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother, William Ed O’Daniel and his wife Phyllis.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

Funeral service will be at conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carrboro United Methodist Church with interment immediately following at Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lineberger Cancer Center at UNC Hospitals, UNC Hospice, and the Carrboro United Methodist Church Building Fund.

GOLDSTON — Ronald Leo Gilliland, 79, of 2270 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, died Saturday (11/9/13) at his home.

Funeral service will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Mike Garner and Jimmy Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

He was born in Danville, Va., and was an Army veteran. He worked as a poultry farmer for over 50 years until he retired.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Augusta Hancock Gilliland; daughter, Ginger Azar and husband Parviz of California; sons, Allen Gilliland and wife Sonya, and Randy Gilliland and companion Kristen Spulka, all of Goldston; four grandchildren; mother, Alice G. Hammer; brothers, Lionel Gilliland and J.B. Gilliland; and one sister, Petty.

SANFORD — Funeral service for James Archie Campbell, who died Thursday (11/7/13), was held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Hillview Christian Assembly with the Rev. Ray Bodin and the Rev. Lynn Epps officiating. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens with military rites.

A grandson, A.J. Baker, sang “Jesus Loves Me." Soloist and guitarist was Bobby Barbour. The Rev. Lynn Epps and Sandra Rosser sang a duet. Sandra Rosser sang a solo accompanied by guitarist Bobby Barbour and then sang another solo with a background of recorded music. The congregation also sang. Recorded music was played at the graveside.

Pallbearers were Michael Viverette, John Teague, David Barbour, Justin Barbour, Halford Fore and Kevin Campbell.

CAMERON — Elizabeth Lee Wilt died Wednesday (11/6/13) at her home.

A private service will be held at a later date.

She is survived by her husbad, Jack A. Wilt; three sons, David, Samuel and Christopher DeLasko; two daughters, Madeline Helms and Brandy Delasko; one sister, Betty El-Didi; three brothers, Charles, Timothy and Scott Wilkins, and seven grandchildren.

HAMPTONVILLE — Lilly Bibey Nance, 93, formerly of Carthage, died Saturday (11/9/13) at her daughter’s residence where she had been living for the past 12 years.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holly Grove Primitive Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m.

Born in Moore County, she was the last living of 10 children born to the late Joel Samuel and Dealie Kiser Bibey. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Carl R. Whitaker; a son, Gary "Bucky" Whitaker; one grandson; two great- granddaughters; and her second husband, Rev. Gurney E. Nance.

She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte “Patti” Strickland of Hamptonville; sons, Randy Whitaker and Timothy Whitaker, both of Grovetown, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
