SANFORD — Graveside service for Gus Nick Kehagias, 49, of Sanford, who died Sunday (6/1/14), was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville with Fr. Alexander Papagikos officiating.

ERNEST PAUL OLDHAM JR.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Ernest Paul Oldham Jr., 73, of Sanford, who died Saturday (6/7/14), was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rogers Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Matt Martin. A private burial preceded the memorial service at Cool Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

During the service, recorded music was played.

HENRY E. WHITNEY JR.

SANFORD — Henry E. Whitney Jr., 90, of Sanford, died Tuesday (6/3/14) at his home.

Services will be held at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

He was born in Brewer, Maine, a son of the late Henry E. Whitney Sr. and Dorothy DeBeck Whitney. He was a Navy veteran of W.W. II and retired from IBM. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Danny Crowe; and wives, Lorane Mitchell, Regina Elkhill and Ruth Katz.

He is survived by daughters, Michele M. Painter of Vermont and Yvonne Crowe of Oregon; a son, Michael Whitney of Oregon; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

SCOTTIE ROGERS

SANFORD — Scottie Rogers, 69, of 2800 Brookhaven Drive, Sanford, died Saturday (6/7/14) at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Fletcher Rogers; six sisters, Shirley Bess, Evelyn Graham (Thomas), Yvonne Headen (Alton), Vickie Cheek, Mavis Diane McLeod and Myrtise Frasier; six brothers, Calvin Taylor (Faye), James Taylor (Ella), John Taylor, Ronald Taylor, Terry Taylor (Alma) and Bernard Harris; two brothers-in-law, Harold and Otis Rogers; two sisters-in-law, Annette Davis and Edna Rogers; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Roberts Chapel Church in Goldston.

Wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Knotts Funeral Home.

CHARLES EDWIN BAIN

BUNNLEVEL — Charles Edwin Bain, 82, of Bunnlevel, died Tuesday (6/10/14) at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

He was born Feb. 21, 1932, to the late Edwin and Cleo Lanier Bain. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran. He was a farmer and a member of Flat Branch Presbyterian Church. He was a past member of the Harnett County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Britt.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Flat Branch Presbyterian Church in Bunnlevel with Dr. Michael Armistead and the Rev. Bert Pitchford officiating. Burial will follow at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at the home.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, LaVerne Wilborn Bain; three sons, Reggie Bain and wife Carol of Bunnlevel, Curtis Bain and wife Beverly of Kipling, and Jeffrey Bain and wife Amy of Kipling; daughter, Vickie Bain Wilson of Lillington; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Roger Bain of Bunnlevel and Hugh Bain of Lillington; and two sisters, Muriel Sharpe of Grimesland and Jewel Chambers of Raleigh.

ROBERT EARL GARNER

VASS — Robert Earl Garner, 65, of Vass, died Tuesday (6/10/14) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A celebration of life will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at Open Arms Community Church with Pastor John Brown officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following service at the church.

He was born in Sanford on Feb. 10, 1949, to Lacy “Bud” Earl and Marguree Collins Garner. He was a truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by a son, Robert E. Garner II of Winterport, Maine; sisters, Susie Jackson and husband Richard of Carthage and Theresa Garner of Sanford; brothers, Jimmy Collins and wife Nancy of Carthage, and Carl T. Garner and wife Janie of Vass; three nieces and five nephews; a special friend, Chickie Gardner of Aberdeen; and a host of friends.

FAYETTEVILLE — Karen Wade, 51, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday (6/10/14) at her home.

She was born in Chatham, Va., to Broadus and the late Phyllis Wade. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Harper.

She is survived by two daughters, Megan and Jessica Webb, both of Fayetteville; her father, Broadus Wade of Lillington; one brother, Bobby Wade and wife Amy of Fuquay-Varina; one grandson; a special companion, Mike Hill of Fayetteville; and several nieces.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harnett Memorial Park with the Rev. Ben Pearce officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:40 a.m. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home prior to the service.
