MARY KAY LESTER
SANFORD — Mrs. Mary Kay Lester, age 58, of Sanford, N.C., died Thursday (9/12/13).
She was born in Hackensack, N.J. and was preceded in death by her father Martin Austin Boyle and by a sister, Susan Lang. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Wenzel Boyle. Mary Kay took pride in working with children while running an in-home daycare providing exceptional love to all in her care. Her enormous smile and joy will be missed by all.
Surviving relatives are her husband, Robert Thomas Lester of Sanford; daughters, Julie Marie Lester of Fredericksburg, Va. and Jeanette Lynne Lester of San Francisco, Calif.; a brother, Martin Boyle III of Texas; and a sister, Patricia Dodge of New Jersey.
Memorial service will be conducted at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday (9/17/13) at 4 p.m. by Deacon Mark Westrick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

ETTA FERN "SISTER" MCDANIEL
FAYETTEVILLE — Retired Pastor Mrs. Etta Fern “Sister” McDaniel, 75, of Fayetteville, died Thursday (9/12/13).
She was born March 15, 1938 in Lone, Kentucky to the late Samuel “Sam” Gibson and Bessie (Osborne) Gibson. She was a member and licensed exhorter of the Church of God. She pastored the Johnsonville Church of God for 12 years. She was also a licensed cosmetologist. She owned and operated Fern’s Beauty Shop out of her home in Ponderosa for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired Army Sgt 1st Class Richard Lee McDaniel.
A funeral will be held in the chapel at Adcock Funeral Home, located at 2226 Lillington Hwy. in Spring Lake, on Tuesday (9/17/13) at 10:30 a.m. Her burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. The family will receive friends at a visitation at the funeral home on Monday, September 16, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will also receive friends at her home following the service on Tuesday.
She is survived by her children, Linda L. Styron and Bobby J. Chapman of Fayetteville, Jeffrey A. Chapman of Sanford, Tamela C. Miller of Bunnlevel, and Lori L. Kline of Franklin, Penn.; sisters Mrs. Opal Moore and Mrs. Lula Day of Ohio, Mrs. Ruby Rexroad of South Carolina, Mrs. Betty Radar and Mrs. Lena Durbin of Kentucky; brother, Mr. Sammy Gibson of Wisconsin; sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

JOHN HENRY PAYNE
SANFORD — Mr. John Henry Payne, age 82, of Sanford, N.C., died Saturday (9/14/13) at his residence.
Mr. Payne was born on March 19, 1931, in Stokes County, N.C., to the late James Payne and Minnie Lankford Payne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Buford Payne, Bob Payne, and James Payne.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Whitt Payne; three sons, John Payne and wife Terri of Sanford, Jerry Payne and wife Judy of Holland, Michigan, and Jeff Payne of Sanford; three brothers, Tom Payne, Irby Payne, and Jesse Payne all of Mt. Airy, N.C.; and grandchildren Josh, Justin, Jonathan, Jason, Scott, and John Alan Payne.
Memorial service will be held Monday (9/16/13) at 11 a.m. at Tramway Baptist Church with Rev. John Allen officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. Burial will follow at a later date.

RAEFORD HOWARD GUNTER
SILER CITY — Raeford Howard Gunter, 87, of Driftwood Drive in Siler City, died Friday (9/13/13) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
He was born March 21, 1926, the son of Charlie and Lillian (Womble) Gunter. He was retired from Boling Chair Co. and had worked for Goldston Lumber Co. and Chatham Novelties. He was a member of Brookdale Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Allene Gilmore Snow and Vernelle McBane Thomas Gunter; a sister, Nadine Crabtree; and a brother, Gerald Gunter.
He is survived by one daughter, Leann Robinson of Siler City; one son, Howard Gunter of Siler City; three sisters, Dorthlene Franklin of Graham, Bernice Badders of Clayton and Shirley Poe of Siler City; two brothers, Charlie Gunter of Siler City and Laddie Gunter of Goldston; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday (9/15/13) from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N. Second Ave., Siler City. A graveside service will be held Monday (9/16/13) at 2 p.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, 4258 Rives Chapel Road, Siler City, with Rev. J. V. Livingston and David Hobson officiating.

BETTY M. STEWART
BUIES CREEK — Betty M. Stewart, 77, of Buies Creek, died Saturday (9/14/13) at Harnett Woods Nursing Home in Dunn.
A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Nolan Terrance and Ruby Haswell McLean. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Blake Stewart; a daughter, Deborah Jane “Debbie” Stewart Holmes; four brothers and a sister. She retired as an administrative assistant with Campbell University Security and was an active member of Buies Creek First Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday (9/16/13) at Buies Creek First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Simmons officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Monday prior to the service in the church sanctuary, and at her home on Sunday (9/15/13) from 1-3 p.m.

Mrs. Stewart is survived by her son, Donald Blake Stewart (Susan) of Angier; a brother, Russell McLean of Angier; and two grandchildren.

WYATT WILSON HELSABECK JR.
CARTHAGE — Wyatt Wilson Helsabeck Jr. died Thursday (8/29/13) in Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (9/20/13) at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Sammy Frye. Burial will follow with military honors at Cross Hill Cemetery.
A native of Troy, he was the last surviving child of Wyatt and Lula Helsabeck. He served his country during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign in New Guinea and Luzon. After his service time, he attended Florida State University and the University of North Carolina. He served as a librarian consultant at Mecklenberg County Library in Charlotte and also wrote three novels, two plays and two books of poetry.
He is survived by four nephews and a great-niece.
