SANFORD — Merry Chris Smith Gregson, 57, of Sanford, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital.

Mrs. Gregson was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 9, 1956, moving to Sanford at a young age. She was an artist who won several blue ribbons at the Lee County Fair with her paintings and drawings. Merry also enjoyed writing poetry, winning a contest for her writing. Merry enjoyed crocheting and fishing.

Mrs. Gregson was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Hickman.

Mrs. Gregson is survived by her husband, Ted Gregson; her father, Leroy Smith; her sister, Shera Chavez; and her three brothers, Ron Smith, Adam Smith and Andrew Smith; her niece, Nikki Chavez; and all of her beloved brothers and sisters of the Kingdom Hall.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford, N.C.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 20, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

MONCURE — Funeral service for Nellie Lewis Palmer, 97, who died Tuesday (9/10/13), was held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Moncure United Methodist Church with the Rev. Houston Blair Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Moncure United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pianist was Eileen Cotten. Soloist was Diane Bennett. The congregation also sang one selection.

Active pallbearers were Brian Cummings, Ryan Vedder, Tommy Collins, Carl Bennett, Chuck Thomas and Travis Wylie. Honorary pallbearers were Rudolph Cotton, Kenneth Jeffries, Carl Bennett Jr., Linwood Dupree, Marshall Spivey and Allen Miller.

SANFORD — Memorial service for Mary Kay Lester, 58, who died Thursday (9/12/13), was held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Mark Westrick officiating. Eulogy was by daughter Jeanette Lynne Lester.

Recorded music was played.

PITTSBORO — Harold Joseph Latimore, 54, of 2050 N.C. Hwy. 902, died Saturday (9/14/13).

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. at Union Grove AME Zion Church in Bear Creek.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Josephine Latimore; two sons, Christopher Sales (Regan) of Plano, Texas and Dominique McDaniel of Pittsboro; two daughters, Amanda Latimore of Morrisville and Angel Latimore of Pittsboro; four grandchildren; two brothers, Willie Frank Latimore and Frederick Latimore (Verlene); five sisters, Gloria Latimore, Sandra Latimore, Elizabeth Latimore, Shanara Latimore and Tamara Latimore; and a host of other relatives and friends.

LILLINGTON — Elsie Stewart, 89, died Wednesday (9/18/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late A.H. and Myrtle Davis Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, C.P. Stewart.  She was a graduate of Meredith College earning her BS degree in Education. She continued her studies at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where she received her Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling. She was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher. She assisted with MYF and Bible School.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Williams officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, and other times at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Hill United Methodist Church, 1960 Spring Hill Church Road, Lillington, N.C. 27546.

She is survived by her sons, Randy Stewart and wife Nancy of Rocky Mount and  David Stewart and wife Sharon of Lillington; sisters, Hazel S. Adams of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Margie S. Anderson of Cameron, W.Va.; brother, Charles Stewart of Clawson, Mich.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Margaret Jeanette Spivey Stone, 82, who died Sunday (9/15/13), was held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Benny Helms officiating. Eulogy was by Elder Daryl Perry. Burial followed at Jonesboro Cemetery.

Recorded music was played at the beginning and at the end of the service. Pianist was Leah Everett. Soloist was Corbin Whitaker. A duet was sung by the group “Humble Hearts” consisting of Chuck and Ida Smart. A duet was also sung by Daryl Perry and Leah Everett.

Pallbearers were Joe Wood, Anthony Christian, Bobby Malone, Rev. Bill Norris, Duke Davis and Ron Cleary.
