SANFORD — Candace Ray Davis died Sunday, September 22, 2013 while vacationing at North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

She was born October 1, 1956 in Sanford, N.C., the daughter of W.H. (Bill) and Louise W. Ray. Candy was a 1974 graduate of Sanford Central High School. She received a nutrition degree from East Carolina University in 1980. She did post graduate work at UNCG in Greensboro. Candy was employed for 33 years as a nutritionist and the director of the WIC program in Moore Country, N.C. She held that position until her retirement in May 2013. Candy was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her mother; her devoted husband of 33 years, W.H. (Bill) Davis III, as well as her three loving sons, Brandon and wife Nicole of Tampa, Fla., Justin and wife Alyssa of Sanford and Kyle also of Sanford. She was known as C’C’ and will be greatly missed by her three granddaughters, Ada, Ava and Lucy. She is also survived by her brother, W.H. (Bill) Ray Jr. and wife Charlene and nephew Harris, all of Sanford.

Candy was a lifelong member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Seekers Sunday School class and had been an early childhood Sunday School teacher.

Some of Candy’s greatest joys included being an ECU pirate, caring for the many children in the WIC program, watching her three sons participate in various sports and spending time with her three granddaughters. She looked forward each week to take Ada to dance class.

Visitation will be held at St. Luke CLC center on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Luke United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. with graveside service following at Buffalo cemetery.

SANFORD — Mr. William Chalmers Griffin, age 64, of Sanford died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at his home.

He was born in Lee County on June 27, 1949 to W.S. Griffin of Mamers and the late Nadine Brown Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a supervisor at Magneti Marelli and worked there for over 30 years. He served our country in the United States Army and was a very active member of the VFW Post 5631 in Sanford.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Cathy Adcock Griffin; step-son, Brandon Taylor and wife Kristen of Sanford; daughter, Dawn Dean and husband Mike of Sanford; two brothers, J.D. Griffin and Al Griffin, both of Mamers; and two grandchildren, Braxton Dean and Bristol Taylor. He also considered his fellow members in the VFW Post 5631 his extended family.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church cemetery in Mamers with Rev. Patrick Broaddus presiding. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

SANFORD — Brian Ashley Sibbett, age 46, of Sanford, N.C. passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.

Brian was born on December 13, 1966 in Whiteville, N.C. to Frank Arthur Sibbett and the late Jessie Ruth Marlowe Sibbett. He had a successful career with J.T. Davenport where he traveled extensively as a salesman and a category manager. Brian was an avid wood worker, enjoyed traveling and loved to read. He was a genuine animal lover. He will be cherished forever by his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Kesler Sibbett of Sanford, N.C.; his daughter, Ariel Sibbett of Sanford and her mother, Christie Lane Mundy of Sanford, N.C.; his father, Frank Sibbett of Lake Waccamaw, N.C.; a sister, Dee Dee Sibbett Brown of Lake Waccamaw, N.C.; a niece, Joanna Brown and a nephew, Nathaniel Brown.

Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. prior to the funeral service and other times at the home.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Jackie McFadyen Hayes, 80, who died Thursday (9/19/13), was held at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church by Dr. Jeff Clark. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery.

During the service the congregation sang, soloist was Etta Love, and the organist was Carole Troutman.

SANFORD — Rose Etta Kottcamp Krohn, 56, died Sunday (9/22/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born in Lee County to the late William Henry Kottcamp III and Etta Thurleen Johnson Kottcamp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Bessie Teeter and Sissy O'Connor; and brother, Baby Ray Kottcamp.

She is survived by a son, John Wesley Krohn and wife Lauren of Sanford; daughter, Etta Kottcamp and husband Wayne Lee of Sanford; brother, William Henry “Billy” Kottcamp IV of Sanford; and seven grandchildren.

LILLINGTON — Funeral service for Elsie S. Stewart, 89, who died Wednesday (9/18/13), was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Williams and the Rev. Dr. Reginald Ponder officiating. Burial was at Spring Hill United Methodist Church cemetery.

Organist was Norma Hamilton, pianist was Johnny Holder and choir director was Mary Lasater.

SANFORD — Brandon S. Ocltree, 30, of 20 James LL Burrell Ave., Hempstead, N.Y. died Friday (9/20/13).

SILER CITY — Albert Joseph McLaurin, 92, of 2075 McLaurin Road, died Sunday (9/22/13) at his home.

Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tripp Foltz, the Rev. Bob Wachs and the Rev. Luther Lemon officiating.

He was a Chatham County native and was a farmer for many years. He was a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was the son of the late Albert H. and Lucy R. McLaurin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darrell; brothers, Neil, Howard, Milton, Ralph and Daniel; and sisters, Hattie Jane and Ethel Lee.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Ann McLaurin; sons, Harold McLaurin and wife Sadie of Bear Creek, and Keith McLaurin and wife Mary of Sunnyvale, Calif.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be at Joyce-Brady Chapel from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall, and other times at his home.

She is survived by her mother, Inez Price; father, Russell L. Price Sr.; son, Daman Walls; and brother, Russell L. Price Jr.
