EARL CHEEK

CAMERON — Mr. Earl Cheek, age 85, of Cameron, N.C. died Friday (6/7/13) at his home.

He was born in Chatham County, N.C. to the late William S. Cheek and Mamie Davis Cheek.  He was preceded in death by brothers Clyde Cheek and William Cheek and by a sister Clara Mae Cheek Harris.

Mr. Cheek was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. 

Surviving is his wife, Ruby Bullins Cheek of the home; sons, Jesse Lewis Cheek and wife Lisa of Carthage, N.C. and James David Cheek and wife Goldie of Aberdeen, N.C.; brother, Ray Cheek of Asheboro, N.C. and one grandchild, James Cheek II and his mother, Diane Calhoun; and many special friends and family.

The family will receive friends Monday (6/10/13) from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Fellowship Hall prior to the funeral service. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, 4460 Lobelia Road, Vass, N.C. 28394 or to Firsthealth Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, N.C. 28374.

KATHRYN MILLS RAGAN

SANFORD — Funeral service for Kathryn Mills Ragan, 75, of Sanford, who died Tuesday (6/4/13) was held Friday (6/7/13) at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Temple with Rev. Mike Oldham officiating. Eulogies were given by several from the congregation. Burial followed at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Mamers.

Pianist was Josh Smith. Soloists were Ashley Tipton, Henry Grant, and Josh Smith.

Pallbearers were James ‘Jimbo” Hilliard, Mike Reece, Darryl Brown, Amos Oldham, Jerimiah Oldham and Michael Oldham.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

 

GARY KENNETH WILLIAMS

SANFORD — Gary Kenneth Williams, 59, of Sanford, died Friday (6/7/13) at his home.

Memorial service will be held Sunday (6/9/13) at 3 p.m. at Redeemed Life Church on Lemon Springs Road in Sanford with Pastor Ronnie Whitaker and Pastor Kris Furmage presiding.

The family is receiving friends at the family home.

EVELYN HOPE WINBORNE DAVIS

SANFORD -- Evelyn Hope Winborne Davis, 88, of Sanford,died Saturday (6/8/13) at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on Jan. 9, 1925, in Nash County, N.C., to the late Luther S. Winborne and Chasey Craft Winborne.  She was a member of Jonesboro United Methodist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death  by her husband, William Henry “Sam” Davis, Jr., and by sisters, Marie and Elizabeth Winborne.

She is survived by a son, William H. “Billy” Davis, III and  wife, Candy; two daughters, Evelyn Hope Eichelberger and husband Joe of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Lynda Davis Seymour and husband Doyle of Mocksville, N.C.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 11, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the  Jonesboro United Methodist Church Parlor  prior to the funeral service. The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 11, at  2 p.m. at Jonesboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Hunter Preston  officiating.  Entombment will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

SAMUEL DUNCAN KIRBY

SANFORD — Samuel Duncan Kirby, 73, of Sanford, died Friday (6/7/13) at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.

He was born July 12, 1939, in Lee County to the late Shula A. Kirby and Lucille Dollar Kirby.  He was a wood worker his entire adult life and a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by brothers Shula Alexander Kirby Jr. and Larry Douglas Kirby.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia D. Kirby; sons, Marvin D. Kirby and wife Debbie of Sanford, and Samuel Daryl Kirby and wife Crystal of Lemon Springs; daughter, Tonda K. Phillips and husband Paul of Sanford; brothers Robert W. Kirby and Bill J. Kirby of Sanford; sisters Barbara K. Maddox, JoAnn K. Liles and husband J.D., Nancey Kirby, Judy K. Grissom and husband Thomas all of Sanford and Susan K. Smith and husband Jack of Madison, Georgia; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends, Monday (6/10/13) from 6-8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Tuesday (6/11/13) at 11 a.m. at Solid Rock Baptist Church with Pastor Craig Dodson and Mr. Tim Coe officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

CHARLES FRANKLIN "CHUCKY" PARTIN

PITTSBORO — Charles Franklin “Chucky” Partin, 28, of Holly Run in Pittsboro, died unexpectedly at his home Thursday (6/6/13).

He was born May 13, 1985, in Durham County, the son of Franklin Maurice Partin and Laura Anne Butler Partin. He was an automobile salesman and also had worked as a plumber.

He is survived by his parents, Frank and Laura Partin; brothers, Christopher Keith Partin and Jonathan Mead Partin, of Pittsboro; and his grandparents, Charles Hooker Butler and Sylvia Bailey Butler, and Runelle Heath Partin, all of Pittsboro. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Sidney Partin, and also by a sister, Elizabeth Rachel Partin.

The service to celebrate his life will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday (6/11/13) at Bynum United Methodist Church, with Pastor Gina Barrow presiding.  Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery at 269 Manns Chapel Rd, Pittsboro, NC. Friends may visit at the residence.

WALTER VINCENT ERTLE III

SANFORD — Walter Vincent Ertle III, 66, of Sanford, died Friday (6/7/13) at his home.

He was born in Hudson County, New Jersey on May 2, 1947 to Walter Vincent Ertle, Jr. and Nessie Agnes Spiers Ertle.  His father preceded him in death. Mr. Ertle was co-owner of Affordable Heating & Air-conditioning Company before his retirement.  He specialized in boilers and oil furnaces.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Frances Novrit Ertle of the home; mother Nessie Spiers Ertle of Woodbury, Minn.; sons Eddie Ertle of Sanford, and Jason Ertle and fiancé Amanda Hall of Sanford; daughter Melissa Lane and husband Joe of Sanford; sister Patricia Coulianos of Minnesota; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday (6/10/13) from 6-8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, and the funeral mass will be Tuesday (6/11/13) at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, with Father Hector Lachapelle officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.
