THOMPSON GREGORY LITTLE JR.

MONCURE — Mr. Thompson “Tommy” Gregory Little Jr., age 81, of Moncure, N.C., died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born in Lee County on January 10, 1932, to the late Thompson & Evelyn Little. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Little and a very special aunt, Estelle Powers. Mr. Little served our country in the United States Navy; was the first motorcycle policeman on the Sanford Police Department; was a member and Past Master of Sanford Masonic Lodge #151; and was the former owner and operator of Little's Super Shell before his career in trucking. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could do almost anything.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Gray Little of the home; three sons, Greg Little and wife Beth of Mocksville, N.C. and their children, Bethany and fiancé Grant Miller, Jacob, Caleb, Seth, Micah and Moriah; son, Gray Little and Tonda of Charlotte, N.C. and their child Makayla; son, Grant Little and wife Pam and their children Bret and Tucker; brother, Jimmy Little of Concord, N.C.; cousins including Connie Gladden, Emma Smith and Al Boone; and uncle Vesper Brown and wife Phyllis of Broadway, N.C.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 6-8 PM and the funeral will be Sunday, June 16th at 3:00 PM at Moncure United Methodist Church with Rev. Houston Blair officiating. Burial will follow at Moncure United Methodist Church cemetery with Masonic rites.

SHERRY GAIL SMITH PILGRIM

VASS — Sherry “Sis” Gail Smith Pilgrim, 60, died Thursday (6/13/13) at her home.

A celebration of life will be held today at 6 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ken Rahal officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

She was born on May 21, 1953, to Duncan Smith and Margaret Collins Smith Jr. She had worked as a medical laboratory technician at Womack Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her father, Duncan Smith Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Timothy Randall Pilgrim; her mother, Margaret Collins Smith; three children, Sheena English and husband Donnie of Vass, Terri Howard of South Carolina, and Kristy Pilgrim of Mississippi; two sisters, Bonnie Williamson, and Linda Gillenwater and husband Richard, all of Cameron; two brothers, Terry Smith and wife Debbie of Vass, and James Smith and wife Sonya of Cameron; and eight grandchildren.

CHARLES R. DIXON JR.

WINCHESTER, Va. — Charles R. Dixon Jr., 77, died Saturday (6/8/13) at Winchester Medical Center.

He was born in 1936 in Greensboro, son of the late Charles Roy Dixon Sr. and Cletus B. Dixon. He earned his Metallurgical Engineering degree from the University of Kentucky. He worked 31 years for Amsted Industries and for the last 13 years of his career he was the Plant Manager for American Steel Foundries, Alliance, Ohio. He was a member of Bluffton United Methodist Church. In February 2013, he moved to Winchester to The Village at Orchard Ridge.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan A. Dixon; a son, Charles B. “Chuck” Dixon (Deborah) of Gaithersburg, Md.; a daughter, Karen Sue Dixon of Phoenix, Ariz.; one grandson; and three sisters, Billie Jernigan of Sanford, Judy Cutts of Raleigh and Martha Hatch of Apex.

A memorial service will be held at the Chapel at Orchard Ridge on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Sims officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the gathering area at the Chapel.
