CONEY ISLAND, N.Y. — Everett Copelin, 75, of Coney Island, N.Y., died Tuesday (4/8/14) at his home.
A celebration of his life and legacy will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Grace Funeral Chapel in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He was born April 7, 1939, in Lillington, to the late Birt and Ruby Copelin. He was a member of the Boxing League as an upcoming prize fighter, and served in the U.S. Army for three years. He retired from his career as an interstate truck driver. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Copelin; son, Vernis Lee Copelin; stepmom, Lucille Copelin; sisters, Sarah Copelin, Mattie Boddie and Mardrue Jennings; and brother, Eddie Copelin.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Miles Copelin; children, Patricia Taylor, Evette Miles and Everett Copelin, all of Coney Island, N.Y., Theresa McCutchen (Roger) of Sanford, Everett Copelin Jr. (Nakitta) and Helen Walls (Glenn), all of Brooklyn, N.Y., Diane Goins (Darryl) of Lillington, Margaret Cameron (Harvey) of Atlanta, Ga., and Steven Copelin (Stacie) of Charlotte; one brother, Robert Copelin (Ida) of Lansing, N.J.; five sisters, Minnie Snell of Ft. Lauredale, Fla., Johnnie Crowell of Far Rock Away, N.Y., Saretha Copelin and Carolyn Foxx, both of Sanford, and Luvonia Barrett (Eugene) of Hendersonville; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

GOLDSTON — Eldridge Preston “EP” McLeod, 76, of Goldston, died Wednesday (4/9/14) at his home.
He was born in Harnett County, on April 13, 1937, to the late W.E. McLeod and Minnie Moore McLeod. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Irma Lee McCoy McLeod. He was a retired self-employed roofer.
He is survived by five sons, Donnie McLeod and wife Betty of Goldston, Junior McLeod and wife Shelby, and Bobby McLeod and wife Peggy, all of Sanford, Jack McLeod and wife Alice of Cameron and Chuck McLeod and wife Joanna of Broadway; one daughter, Fay Munoz and husband Victor of Sanford; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Dr. Larry Martin. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Marcella Jenkins McLean died Sunday (4/6/14).
She is survived by her husband, John McLean; daughters, Latasha Jenkins and Jontaya McLean, both of Newport News, Va.; sons, Jarelle McLean, Traile Tabon and Raysean Tabon, all from Newport News, Va; eight sisters, Karen McGilveary (Rodney), Regina Emerson (James), Patricia Hawes (Charlie), all of Sanford, Cassandra Jenkins of Orlando, Fla., Valerie Jenkins of Hampton, Va., Vivian Roberts (Kenneth) of Federal Way, Wash., Frederica Jenkins of Tacoma, Wash., and Ollie White of Hollywood, S.C.; and two brothers, Aaron and Frederick Jenkins, both of Sanford.
A viewing and wake will be held today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Steele-Bullock Funeral Home in Portsmouth, Va.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Church of Jesus in Hampton, Va.

BRADEENE BLACKMON VAIL
RALEIGH — Bradeene Blackmon Vail, 89, of Raleigh, formerly of Buies Creek, died Wednesday (4/9/14) at Brighton Gardens in Raleigh.
She was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Junius Fulton and Katye Hatcher Blackmon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Taylor Vail, and daughter, Phyllis Ann Vail. She worked as a nurse in Buies Creek and Sanford, and also served as the Director of Nursing at Good Hope Hospital in Erwin. She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and Memorial Baptist Church. She also served as a volunteer with Hospice of Harnett County.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Buies Creek Cemetery with Dr. David Whiteman officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home & Crematory in Lillington.
She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Vail of Greensboro and Anna Vail Strickland of Raleigh; and brother, Dr. Bruce B. Blackmon of Buies Creek.

SANFORD — Joann Frances Neal, 77, of Sanford, died Monday (4/7/14) at home in Carolina Trace.
She was born Jan. 19, 1937, in Baltimore, Md. to the late LTC Ret. Frank I. and Gertrude S. Kuchta of Baltimore. She was twice named Volunteer of the Year at Ft. Sheridan, Ill., and Ft. Meade, Md.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; sons, Mike and wife Tanya, and Jeff, all of Sanford, Steve of Phoenix, Ariz., and Rich of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jonesboro United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Center.
