JULIA DARLENE KERNES
SANFORD — Julia Darlene Kernes, 57, of Sanford, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on October 20, 1956 in Lee County Hospital. Darlene was a member of Swann Station Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and the simple things in life. She was a “Strong” woman who fought the ultimate battle since 2011 and won her fight and is rejoicing in heaven with her Lord.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Kernes; daughter, Melissa Kernes Gonzalez and her husband Abraham; son, Jason Lynn Kernes; step-son, Ray Kernes; mother, Louise W. Ross; brother, James Wicker, Jr.; sister, Carolyn W. Goins and her husband Jesse; also survived by her grandchildren, Dustlyn and Skyler.
Darlene was predeceased by her father, James Paul Wicker and step-father, Tony Ross and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Riley and Mary Kernes.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4th from 10 until 11 a.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
The family will continue to receive family and friends at 1408 Minter School Road in Sanford.

BESSIE LENORA WILT MOSS
SOUTHERN PINES — Bessie Lenora Wilt Moss passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013.
She was born on June 27, 1928 in Newport News, Va., the only daughter of the late Raymond and Gertrude Todd Wilt. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Arthur Curtis “A.C.” Moss, Jr., who passed away on January 28, 2013. She was also preceded in death by two of her brothers, Ray Wilt and Arthur Wilt. She devoted her adult life to family and church. She was active in Girls Auxiliary and served as G.A. Director for many years. In addition, she was involved in leadership roles with the Girl Scouts. She encouraged her children’s talents through the arts: piano, dance and art lessons. Church and community involvement was a priority. She loved to travel with her husband and was exceptionally talented in many areas: sewing, stained glass, quilting and organizing. She was known by family as “Sis” and friends called her “Bessie”.
Bessie is survived by her daughters, Linda Moss Leonard and husband Mike of Cleveland, Tenn., and Laura Moss Phillips of Sanford, N.C. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer Phillips Williams and husband Tony of Belmont, N.C., Laura Drumm Edrington and husband Doug of Harrison, Tenn., Arthur Scott Drumm of Cleveland, Tenn., and Blair Phillips Nail and husband Jordan of Cary, N.C.; two brothers, Lawrence Wilt and wife Sissy of Seaford, Va., and James Wilt and wife Joanie of Williamsburg, Va. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, Virginia will be scheduled for some time in March 2014 where she will be laid to rest along with her beloved husband.

CARTHAGE — Sherry Gayle Bunnell, 59, died Saturday (11/30/13) at her home.
A celebration of life was held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Boroughs officiating.
She was born in Pinehurst on Aug. 11, 1954, to Alton Woodrow and Dorothy Joyce McKenzie Bunnell. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by a daughter, Michelle Jourdan and husband Jason of Carthage; sisters, Linda Cox of Cameron and Sandra Bunnell of Carthage; and four grandchildren.
