MICHAEL WILLIAM PETIT

SANFORD — Funeral service for Michael William Petit was held Saturday (12/7/13) at Miller Boles Funeral Home in Sanford with Steve Rosser presiding. Special music, "I can only imagine," was played during the service.

The Patriot Riders escorted the family to Miller Boles Funeral home and participated in the graveside service.

Miller-Boles Funeral Home of Sanford served the family.

 

JOHNNY GILBERT WOMACK

SANFORD — Graveside service for U.S. Air Force (Ret.) Master Sgt. Johnny Gilbert Womack, 80, of Sanford, who died Tuesday (12/3/13) was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lee Memory Gardens with Chaplain Joel Cameron  officiating. Burial followed with military rites.

Recorded music was played at the graveside.

Pallbearers were David Womack, Darrell Womack, Eric Womack, Randy Brafford, Les Ridenhour and Boyd Brafford Jr.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

 

BOBBY DEAN WOOD

CARTHAGE — Bobby Dean Wood, 48, of Carthage, died Friday (12/6/2013) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

He was born on January 13, 1965 to the late Elijah Wood and Sally Smith Wood of Sanford. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers Dr. John Wood, DDS and Robert Wood. Bobby worked for General Timber as a knuckle boomer operator. He also worked part-time for WWGP as the Swap Shop DJ and was a member of the Backwoods Boys Group. He also did commercials for Bemco Mattress Company and worked as an usher at Christian Faith Ministries.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Eva Wood; sister Becky Wood of Fayetteville; mother-in-law Mary Ann Norris of Sanford; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday (12/10/2013) at 6 p.m. at Christian Faith Ministries, 3110 Cameron Drive, Sanford, NC with Dr. Donald Kivett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service and at other times at The Oaks Apartments at 183 Peaceful Lane in Sanford.

CLARA BELLE

CARTHAGE — Clara Belle, 91, of Carthage died Saturday (12/7/2013).

Funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday (12/10/2013) at John Hall Presbyterian Church in Carthage. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-7 p.m. at Pugh & Smith Funeral Home of Carthage.

Survivors include three daughters, Ella Bond, Rachel Smith and Catherin Glover; and two sons, Milton Belle Jr. and Rev. James Belle.

Pugh & Smith Funeral Home of Carthage is serving the family.

 

ROBERT EDWARD LEE

PINEHURST — Robert Edward “Bob” Lee, 92, died Thursday (12/5/2013)) at Quail Haven Village in Pinehurst.

Bob was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Franklin, Va. to the late Rev. Percy Owen Lee and Bernice Buck Lee. He was a graduate of Elon College and receive his master's degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.

He moved to Aberdeen in 1946 and began teaching at Aberdeen High School, where he later became principal and also coached baseball, basketball and football. The girls' basketball teams he coached won the Moore County championship yearly from 1947-1954 and also won the state championship in 1951 and 1953.

In 1959 he became the Moore Country School Superintendent and served through integration. In the 1960s he helped in the founding of Sandhills Community College, and he was one of the founders of the North Carolina Association of School Administrators and served as its first president, from 1976-77.

He served as president of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) and is a member of the NCHSAA Hall of Fame. He also was selected as Alumnus of the Year at Elon College, was named N.C. Superintendent of the Year, received the Terry Sanford Award for leadership from Duke University and was inducted into the Union Pines High School Hall of Fame.

He was a member of Carthage United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir, was a lay minister and served as president of the Methodist Men.

He co-owned PineKone Kennel, where he had seven Nation Champion bird dogs, and he was also a past president of the Rotary Club of Carthage as well as a recipient of the Kiwanis Club Builders Cup, in 2004.

Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Owen Lee, and a son, Bobby Lee.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hales “Gee” Lee; daughters, Mary Lou Vaughan and husband Joe of Pinehurst, and Carol Anne Lee of Raleigh; sons, Charles Andrew “Andy” Lee and wife Laura of Southern Pines, and Edward Hales Lee and wife Tamara of Seven Lakes; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carthage United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mattheue Locklear and the Rev. Terry Bryant.

The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Monday, and again following the service in the Sinclair House adjacent to Carthage United Methodist Church.

SILER CITY — Melvin Ashe, 79, of 3717 Old Coleridge Rd., Siler City, died Friday (12/6/2013) at Genesis HealthCare in Siler City.

Knotts and Son Funeral Home of Siler City is assisting the family.

 

JUSTINE ADAMS NIEDWOROK

SANFORD — Justine “Tina” Adams Niedworok died Friday (12/6/2013) at The Laurels in Pittsboro after a long period of declining health. She was born in Windsor, Vt. on Dec. 17, 1926 to Raymond F. Adams and Lorene Clough Adams. She graduated from Castleton Teacher’s College in Castleton, Vt.

After graduating from college she taught grades 1-4 in a two-room schoolhouse in rural Vermont. She loved teaching and continued to teach for several years. Her passion was sewing, quilting, and tatting. She was a masterful seamstress. She custom made wedding dresses, men’s suits, winter coats, prom dresses and anything that could be put together with fabric. She was an expert at alterations and she spent many years altering clothes for many clients.

Tina leaves behind her husband, Hans; son, David Hale; daughters, Debbie Hale Penny and Louise Hale Taff; step-children, Claudio Niedworok, Dieter Niedworok, and Sigrid Colvin; brother, Delbert Adams; sister, Marilyn Adams Stone; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday (12/10/2013) at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Sanford. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service.
