WAXHAW — Christopher John Thorne, of Waxhaw, at age 2 lost his 14-month battle to cancer on January 26, 2013.

Celebration of life services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday January 29, 2013 at St. Matthew Catholic Church.

Always a happy baby and a dare devil from the beginning he was a blessing to his parents, Patrick and Jackie Thorne, a little brother to Alex and a grandson to Ailene and John Dashner and to Phil and Martha Thorne.

SANFORD — Mrs. Jessie Waddell Winstead, 88, of Sanford, N.C., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Central Carolina Hospital.

Mrs. Winstead was born on Oct. 2, 1924, in Harnett County, N.C., to the late Alexander Waddell and Ruberta Cameron Waddell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Evander C. Winstead; brothers, Bailey Waddell, Walter Waddell, Theodore “Ted” Waddell, and John Waddell; and sisters, Alice Garner and Lilla Blue.

She was a graduate of Benhaven High School and was a member of Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church. She was co-owner and operator with her husband of Winstead’s Grocery from 1945 to 1973.

Mrs. Winstead is survived by three sister-in-laws, Myrtle Waddell of Sanford, Doris Waddell of Concord, and Louise Waddell of Sanford.

A graveside service will be held Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Buffalo Cemetery with Rev. Gilbert McDowell officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside service.

SILER CITY —  Lori Gayle Greene Buckner, 42, of 1249 Perry Graveyard Road, Siler City, died Friday (1/25/13) at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

She was born Sept. 9, 1970, the daughter of Richard and Gayle (Turner) Greene and was a native of Cumberland County, and worked in the banking industry and was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by husband B. Henry Buckner; daughter: Mattie Kay Buckner and son: Benjamin H. Buckner, II, both of the home, her parents, Richard and Gayle (Turner) Greene of Carolina Beach; sister, Traci Greene France of Manteo; and brother: Richard Cz Greene, Jr. of Wilmington.

The funeral is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at South Fork Friends, 359 South Fork Bethel Road, Snow Camp, with the Rev. Jason Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
