GULF — Margaret Mae Smith Fields, 87, of Gulf, NC passed Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Mrs. Fields was born April 2, 1926 in Chatham County to the late Pearl Smith and Lessie (Phillips) Smith.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday April 27, 2013 at the Gulf Presbyterian Church in Gulf, NC. A funeral service will follow the visitation starting at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.

Mrs. Fields was a long time member of the Gulf Presbyterian Church and Gulf Women's Club. She worked as a nurse and secretary in the medical field for over 38 years. She enjoyed her family trips to Sunset Beach and spending time with her grandchildren which she loved and adored.

Mrs. Fields was preceded in death by her husband in 2010, Wilbur Monroe Fields Jr.; two brothers, Jimmy and Clarence Smith and a sister, Helen Thrift.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Fields of Gulf; three grandsons, Richard Turner and wife Renee of Angier, NC; Mark Turner and wife Tonia of Lillington, NC; Kelly Turner and wife Michele of Sanford, NC; nine great-grandchildren, Natalie, Joseph, Austin, Brittany, Daniel, Justin, Aaron, Samantha, and Brandon, and one great-great-grandchild, Corey.

Family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Gulf Presbyterian Church.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Ernest Del Baldwin, 74, who died Sunday (4/21/13), was conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at New Bethel Freewill Baptist Church with Elder Timothy Jenkins officiating. Burial was at Sandhills Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

SANFORD — Graveside service for Hilda Gray Stone Gilmore, 87, who died Sunday (4/21/13), was held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Buffalo Cemetery with the Rev. Elton Bryan officiating.

SANFORD — Orvel Starr Jr., 91, died Thursday (4/25/13) at Liberty Commons Retirement Center.

He was born in Krypton, Ky., on Dec. 17, 1921, to the late Orvel Starr Sr. and Rosa Baldwin Starr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Dorothy Wilson, Jessie Dutton, Buddy Starr, Robert Starr and Kathleen Edwards. He worked for Sanford Motor Sales for 38 years prior to owning and operating Starr's Auto Repair. In years past, he attended St. Stephen's Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a W.W. II veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Harkey Starr; five sons, David Starr and wife Linda, Richard Starr, Rodney Starr and wife Susie, Tony Starr and wife Rebecca, and Gary Starr and wife Kim, all of Sanford; four daughters, Rita Kreusch and husband Bob of Yellville, Ark., Patty Oakley and husband Buck of Cameron, Crystal Garner and husband Tony of Cumnock and Lisa Perry and husband Michael of Sanford; one brother, Lonnie Starr and wife Ann of Hartsell, Ala.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Johnson and the Rev. Donald Luellen presiding. Burial will follow at Cool Springs Baptist Church in Sanford with military honors.

CHAPEL HILL — Funeral service for John Baldwin, 95, of 1314 White Cross Road, who died Thursday (4/11/13), was held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 15, at Terrells Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro. Burial was at the church cemetery. The eulogist was the Rev. Walter Cotten.

SANFORD — Ruby Pearl Phillips, 98, died Thursday (4/25/13) at Sanford Health and Rehab.

She was born in Rockingham County, daughter of the late William Fountain Phillips and Jessie Joyce Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Howard Phillips, Harold Phillips, Bill Phillips, Norman Phillips, the Rev. Jimmy Phillips and Weldon Phillips; and sister, Edith P. Frye. She was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church but attended Shallow Well United Church of Christ for many years. She had worked at the Garment Production Shop as a seamstress.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Thompson and the Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Shallow Well Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her brothers, Travis Phillips and wife Betty, Roger “Gene” Phillips and wife Anne, and Melvin Phillips and wife Margaret, all of Sanford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and other times at the home of Sherry Phillips Kent, 4272 Cox Mill Road.

SANFORD — Vickie Rea “Vic” Womack, 59, died Monday (4/22/13).

He was born in Lee County, son of the late Victor Ree Womack and Evelyn Lettie Johnson Womack. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Vincent Chase Womack.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Garland Smith officiating.

He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Leigh Womack of Colonial Heights, Va.; son, Victor Rea Womack of Colonial Heights, Va.; sisters, Phyllis Collins and husband Jesse of Sanford and Hilda Cain and husband Les of Laurel Fork, Va.; and brother, John E. Womack and wife Gayle of New Ironton, Ohio.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home prior to the memorial service.
