JAMES RALPH RIDDICK

SANFORD — James Ralph Riddick, 60, of Sanford, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on April 27, 1953 to the late Elbert Ralph and Helen Cranford Riddick.

James was a man who liked to tell a new joke anytime he saw you. He loved fishing and mostly time with his family. He was employed with Riddick Plumbing for years and also worked for the City of Sanford Police Department. In the Department he held numerous positions including Patrolman, K-9 Handler, Selective Enforcement Unit Member and Honor Guard. James also enjoyed his work as maintenance supervisor for Keller's Oakhaven and also as a Chauffeur for Prime Time Limo.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kim Crissman Riddick; one son, James Ralph Riddick, II and his wife Susan Campbell Riddick; one grandson, James Ralph Riddick, III; also survived by one sister, Diane Fink.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Moore Union Christian Church in Broadway. A visitation following services will be held in the church fellowship hall. Interment private.

DEBRA OZMENT MCLEOD

LILLINGTON — Debra (Debbie) Ozment McLeod, 60, of Lillington, passed away Wednesday, March 5, at UNC Hospital due to complications related to a long battle with brain cancer.

Debra was born to the late Jack and Dorothy Ozment in 1954, in Cuba. Debra graduated from Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro in 1972. She was employed at Cone Mills for 10 years as production worker, and then became a homemaker to her two children.

Debra was a beloved mother, wife, and grandmother. She had a strong passion for life and a generous boundless spirit. She loved to make people laugh with her unique sense of humor. In her free time she loved to visit the mountains of North Carolina, spend time with her family, collect rocks, and took delight in culinary adventures.

She is survived by her husband, Dewey McLeod of Sanford; son, David Perdue and daughter-in-law Cara Perdue of Snow Hill; daughter, Lindsey Perdue of Cameron; grandchildren Kaiden Hatfield and Ahlaneia Schall of Cameron; sister, Patricia Kendrick and brother-in-law, Joel Kendrick of Mooresville; aunt, Barbara Dunnagan of Greensboro; stepmother, Johnsie Hefner Hill of Greensboro; stepbrother, John Sherman Hill, (wife) Vicki, (children) Brandy, Holly, and Zachery of Greensboro; and the McLeod-Hicks family of Sanford.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Ozment; mother, Dorothy Ozment; aunt, Elizabeth Goldman; aunt, Helen Edwards and aunt, Norma Nelson.

A small ceremony celebrating her life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the American Cancer Society.

EVELYN MCNEIL HOLLIS

FAYETTEVILLE — Evelyn McNeil Hollis, 57, of 9327 Castle Falls Circle, Fayetteville, died Friday (3/7/14) at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her sister, Linda Judd, 3410 Renee Drive, Sanford.

She is survived by three sons, Carlton Hollis Jr., Cordaro Hollis and Eric Hollis, all of the home; three sisters, Oretta McMillian (Tory) of Cameron, Linda Judd (Stewart Sr.) of Sanford and Janice Graham of Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers, Mickey McNeil and Lunn McNeil, both of Sanford, and Donald McNeil of Atlanta, Ga.; three great-aunts; special friend, Samuel Foy; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Knotts Funeral Home.

LUCY PHILLIPS PUGH

BENNETT — Lucy Phillips Pugh, 91, died Monday (3/10/14) at home.

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at Bennett Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Webb and John Wayne Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

She was a Chatham County native and was a real granddaughter of the UDC. She joined the Coast Guard during W.W. II. She was a member of the old Bennett Christian Church that no longer stands today.

She is survived by her sons, Ronnie and Daryel Pugh of Bennett; daughter, Lili and her husband John Onufryk; two grandsons; and a multitude of nephews and nieces and great- and great-great-nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett, and other times at her home.

BRENDA JOYCE CHRISTIAN

LILLINGTON — Brenda Joyce Christian, 71, of Summerville, S.C., died Friday (3/7/14).

She was born March 15, 1942, the daughter of the late Lucille and Jim Christian.

She is survived by her sons, Neil Byrd (Debbie) and Chris Byrd (Tamara); daughter, Allison Byrd; five grandchildren; and her siblings, Faye Brown (Tom), Nancy Christian, and James Christian (Peggy).

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lillington with the Rev. Dr. Bill Goodnight officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery after the service.

CALVIN REECE HARDEE JR.

SANFORD — Calvin Reece Hardee Jr., 76, of Sanford, died Monday (3/10/14) at the First Health Hospice House in Moore County.

He was born in Harnett County on Aug. 28, 1937, to the late Calvin Reece Hardee Sr. and Minnie Lee Richardson Hardee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dale Reece Hardee, and siblings, Mary Joyce Mangum, Billy Ray Hardee and Judith Annette Penny. He owned and operated Peggy's Seafood Restaurant for 40 years before his retirement. He was a member of Crossroads Ministries in Broadway.

He is survived by daughter, Pat Hardee Ellis and husband Steve of Sanford; and brother, Johnny Richard Hardee of Lillington.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crossroads Ministries in Broadway.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Crossroads Ministries with Pastor John Sauls and the Rev. Mark Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow Friday at 11 a.m. at Broadway Town Cemetery.

ROBIN LEONARD WHITT

SANFORD — Robin Leonard Whitt, 50, of Sanford, died Monday (3/10/14) at his home.

He was born in Moore County on April 9, 1963, to Bobbie Joe Whitt and Shelby Matthews Whitt. He was preceded in death by his father; son, Cody Whitt; and sister, Tonya Whitt. He was a manager at Steve Thomas' Tobacco Farm.

He is survived by his mother, Shelby Whitt of Sanford; sons, Joshua Whitt, Travis Whitt, Robin Whitt Jr. and Timothy Johnson, all of Sanford; daughter, Candace Whitt of Sanford; brothers, Bobbie Whitt Jr. of Vass and Rodney Whitt of Mt. Airy; and three grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Brush Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services at the Steve Thomas Farm.
