LORRAINE JOY DAVIS MOSS

SANFORD — Lorraine Joy Davis Moss, age 68, passed away on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Independent Free Will Baptist Church, 700 West Stallings St., Clayton.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Corbett and husband Raymond, Jane E. Martin and husband David; son, Robert Moss and wife Cindy; sisters, Elaine Peterson, Jennie Everett, Barbara Duffy, Cathy Baker, Eileen Everett and Patricia Everett; grandchildren, Casey Corbett, Brianna Corbett, Rosey Martin and Alexis Moss.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

ANNIE LOU MURPHY GARRETT

ATWATER, Calif. — Annie Lou Murphy Garrett, 74, of Atwater, Calif., died Wednesday (2/26/14).

She was born on April 23, 1939, in Walnut Cove to the late Joyce Edward Murphy and Callie Doris Tuttle Murphy of Sanford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Darius Thomas Murphy. She worked as a food server in a retirement home for 25 years.

She is survived by her husband, Randy Garrett; a daughter, Deborah Hastings Gonzales of Atwater, Calif.; and sons, Bobby (Maria) Hastings of Los Angeles, Calif., Jeffrey Hastings of Atwater, Calif., and Jimmy (Mary) Hastings of Santa Clarita, Calif.

Local survivors include sisters, Linda Happ of Sanford and Brenda Cameron Holder of Cameron; brothers, Edward Wayne (Betsy) Murphy of Glendon and William David (Alene) Murphy of Sanford; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A local memorial service will be held Saturday at 12 p.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the memorial service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ephesus Baptist Church in her memory.

Arrangements in California were handled by Wilson Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Atwater, Calif. Local arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

SANFORD — Devera Ann French, 45, of 301 Abbott Drive, died Wednesday (3/12/14) at Central Carolina Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Knotts Funeral Home.

MAGALINE ROSSER THOMAS HUNTER

BROADWAY — Magaline “Meg” Rosser Thomas Hunter, 89, of Broadway, died Tuesday (3/11/14) at Parkview Rest and Retirement.

She was born on May 11, 1924, to the late Joseph Lexie Rosser and Nina Nordan Rosser. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husbands, Atlas F. Thomas and Ralph B. Hunter; a grandson, Scotty Sharpe; and a great-granddaughter, Virginia Caroline Butler. She was a retired dental therapist and worked with a Civil Service Dental Clinic for 25 years. She was a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Good Neighbors Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Brick Capital Line Dancers, and the National Association of Federal Employees (NAFE).

She is survived by daughters, Sandra T. Carter and husband Donnie, Judy T. Sharpe and husband Larry, and Debbie T. Bryan, all of Sanford; stepchildren, Sharon H. Cox and husband Wilson of Broadway, Joan H. Banker and husband George of Garner and Gerald R. Hunter and wife Becky of Matthews; a brother, Joseph Milton Rosser and wife Betty of Chickamauga, Ga.; sister, Geraldine R. Morris of Sanford and Virginia R. Barnhill of Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Larry and Judy Sharpe.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gregg Presnal officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

CARTHAGE — Janie Goodwin Creekmore, 85, died Tuesday (3/11/14) at Manor Care in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church.

Born in Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Dolphus Goodwin and Ila Mae Bryant Goodwin. She retired from Westinghouse in Raleigh and was a member of Yates-Thagard Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by daughters, Frances Forrest and Dottie Johnson, and two brothers, Alfred Goodwin and Jack Goodwin.

She is survived by her husband, Grafton Creekmore; a daughter, Lynn Caviness and husband Wayne of Carthage; son, Johnnie Wester and wife Pat of Fuquay Varina; sons-in-law, Roger Forrest of Carthage, and Tim Johnson and wife Tracie of Raleigh; sister, Jean Williford; and a brother, Carey Goodwin; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

JAMES LEWIS LANGLEY

SANFORD — James Lewis Langley, 82, of Sanford, died Wednesday (3/12/14) at his home.

He was born in Lee County on March 1, 1932, to the late William Elvon Langley and Eula Elkins Langley. He served in both the U.S. Army and Navy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Rachel Poe Langley, and sons, Dwight Pollard and Marty Langley. He was a retired mechanic with Coty.

He is survived by sons, Jimmy Langley of Clayton, Michael Langley of Sanford and Dale Pollard of Florida; sister, Betty Langley Pinson of Sanford; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Lee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Lee Memory Gardens following the graveside service.

RUFUS A. BREWER JR.

SILER CITY — Rufus A. Brewer Jr., 95, of Siler City died Tuesday (3/11/14) at UNC Hospitals.

He was born in Chatham County on Dec. 24, 1918, the son of the late Rufus and Carrie (Craft) Brewer Sr. He was an Army veteran of W.W. II, a graduate of Mars Hill College, a member of Rocky River Baptist Church, a charter member of the Silk Hope Ruritan Club, leader of Boy Scouts and retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Harrington Brewer; sister, Mozelle B. Vinsant; brothers, James Warren Brewer and Harry T. Brewer; and a nephew.

He is survived by sister, Carrie B. Campen; three nephews; four nieces; five great-nieces; five great-nephews; six great-great-nieces and two great-great-nephews.

Visitation will be in the sanctuary at Rocky River Baptist Church from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gregg Burriss officiating and military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

MONCURE — Funeral service for Julius Lee Lassiter, 60, who died Friday (3/7/14), was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Knotts Funeral Home in Pittsboro with the Rev. Toddy Brooks officiating.

Soloists were Michael Knight and LaQuanda Jiggens.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Jimmy Lewis Sessoms, 75, who died Sunday (3/9/14), was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sanford First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Greg Long officiating. Military rites were held and burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery.

Pianist was Barbara Miller. Soloist was Teresa Kelly. The congregation also sang.

Pallbearers were Daniel Barfield, Ryan England, Carl Corpus, Casey England, Justin Dick and Eric Barfield.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
