MARGIE LOUISE BISHOP ATKINS

SANFORD — Mrs. Margie Louise Bishop Atkins, age 84, of the Deep River Community, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born in Hope Mills, NC on September 16, 1929 to the late William Watson Bishop and Ruth O'Lena Phillips Bishop. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Alfred Atkins and two brothers, Bill and Gene Bishop. Louise worked 20 years in the cafeteria at Deep River School, retiring as the cafeteria manager. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Leader and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Freddie Atkins and William “Billy” Atkins and wife Vickie; daughter, Robin Walker and husband Mark, all of Deep River; eight grandchildren, Danielle Riddle, Meredith Davis, Clayton Atkins, Casey Atkins, Al Atkins, Aaron Atkins, Kelsey Atkins and Lacie Walker; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Friday, January 24, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Flat Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Gary McCollough and Mr. Jerry Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service in the fellowship hall of Flat Springs Baptist Church.

JIMMY LEE TAYLOR

LILLINGTON — Jimmy Lee “Dick” Taylor, 83, of Lillington, died Wednesday (1/22/14) at his home.

He was born in Person County, the son of the late Charlie and Mageline Tucker Taylor. He was preceded in death by three sisters, six brothers, and his son Jimmy Lee Taylor Jr.

Memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Martin Groover and the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home and all other times at the home.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Taylor; three daughters, Angela Thomas of Broadway, Iris Tutor and husband Van of Fuquay-Varina and Nicole Stallings and husband Durwood of Coats; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Hospice Service, 1005 Carthage St., Sanford, N.C. 27330.

ROBERT STELLE BAKER

CAMERON — Robert Stelle “R S” Baker, 70, of Cameron, died Tuesday (1/21/14) at FirstHealth Hospice House of Pinehurst.

A celebration of life will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Eugene Ussery and Pastor John Chavis officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

R S was born in Kithing on April 3, 1943 to Otha Ray and Sara Elizabeth Wheeler Baker. He worked with Clay Moretz as an electrician for over 30 years. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carthage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otha Ray and Sara Elizabeth Wheeler Baker; and two brothers, Otis Baker and Wyatt Baker.

He is survived by a son, Robert “Robbie” S. Baker Jr. and wife Karen of Carthage; a daughter, Penny Baker Bodenhamer and husband CJ of Kernersville; a sister, Judy Nipper and husband Marty of Lillington; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a companion, Peggy Lane Hawthorne.

A visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Emmanual Baptist Church.

NEW HILL — Charles S. Haithcox, 84, of New Hill, died Wednesday (1/22/14) at Sanford Health and Rehab. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Smith Funeral Home of Moncure.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Wesley Allen Davis, 75, who died Sunday (1/19/14), was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pocket Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Dudley officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Organist was Cindy Hayes. The group “Pocket of Praise” sang. The congregation also sang.

Pallbearers were Jim Thomas, Butch Johnson, Joel Cameron, Harold Oldham, Rocky Barnes and Doc Oldham.

The family received friends in the church fellowship hall following the services.

SWANNIE JACKSON DAWKINS PATTERSON

SANFORD — Funeral service for Swannie Jackson Dawkins Patterson, 84, who died Monday (1/20/14), was conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Pianist and organist were Louise and David Oyster. The congregation sang two hymns and Mr. and Mrs. Oyster played a special instrumental piece.

Pallbearers were Pat McNeill, Gary McNeill, Buddy McNeill, Don Ellis, Ronnie Nance and Binky Dawkins.

WARREN HAMPTON WALLACE

SANFORD — Memorial service for Warren Hampton Wallace, 67, who died Sunday (1/19/14), was conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Grace Chapel Church with the Rev. Joel Murr and the Rev. Michael J. Emeott officiating. Eulogy was by Ron McNeill. The family received friends following the memorial service at the church.

Pianist was Betty Sue McNeill. Soloist was Tammy Strickland.

A graveside service for burying the cremains will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at College Park Cemetery, 3600 North Adams Street, College Park, Ga. 30337.

CLIFFORD COOLIDGE HURLEY

CARTHAGE — Clifford Coolidge "Red" Hurley, 88, of Carthage, died Tuesday (1/21/14) at his home.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Red Branch Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Scott McInnis and the Rev. David Reynolds. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m.

A native of Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Perlie S. and Mary Bean Hurley. He retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator and earlier in life worked as a farmer and sawmill operator. He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and a great-grandson.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Veder Wall Hurley; daughters, Vetres Livengood and husband Eddie, Joan Ragsdale and husband David, and Christy Freeman and husband Kenneth, all of Carthage, and Sandy Marsh and husband Rex of McLeansville; sons, Teddy Hurley and wife Terri of Carthage, and Jeffery Hurley and wife Barbara of Lexington, S.C.; brother, Joe Hurley and wife Helen of Troy; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
