LEXINGTON — Joshua Lee Beeker, 40, of Glendale Road, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Health - Lexington Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at Jersey Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Durham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service and other times at the home of his grandparents on Glendale Road.

Mr. Beeker was born March 27, 1974, in Rowan County, to George Michael Beeker and Robin Everhart Beeker. He was a graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hartford County Community College in Maryland, and was a nurse at University of Maryland Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kelin and Margie Everhart.

Surviving in addition to his parents of Sanford are his sons, Joshua Michael Beeker and George Michael Beeker of Bel Air, Maryland; sister, Joy Beeker Dalrymple and husband William of Sanford; grandparents, George and Margaret Beeker of Lexington; nephew, Trip Dalrymple of Sanford; special aunt and uncle, Judy Wimmer and husband Gerald and their family of Lexington.

SANFORD — Hazel Langley Gautier, 88, of Sanford, died Friday (5/2/14) at her son’s home.

She was born in Moore County, on July 20, 1925, to the late Willie Langley and Eula Elkins Langley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Wilson Gautier; daughters, Frances Elizabeth Gautier and Doris Jean Painter; brothers, Charles, Roy and Jim Langley; and a sister, Ruth Hurley. She was a member of Sanford Church of God and also attended Holly Springs Baptist Church. She worked at Cornell-Dubilier for several years as a tester.

She is survived by a son, Eugene Wilson Gautier and wife Wanda of Sanford; a daughter, Penny Barbour and husband Tony of Sanford; sisters, Ester Smith and husband Jerry, and Betty Pinson, all of Sanford; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. (one hour prior to service) at Sanford Church of God. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sanford Church of God with Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Entombment will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

CAMERON — Murray James Bates, 57, of Cameron, died Tuesday (4/29/14) at his home.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

He was born in Detroit, Mich., on Aug. 7, 1956 to Murray Quinn and Betty Lynn Brooks Bates. He worked and traveled in the industrial construction business as a pipe foreman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Decker Bates; his parents, Murray Quinn and Betty Lynn Brooks Bates; and brother, Richard Louis Bates.

He is survived by his children, Eric Quinn Bates and wife Tiffany of Bat Cave and Scarlet Marie Bates of Southern Pines; sister, Lynn Kristine (Kris) Driggers of Cameron; one niece and one nephew.

SEAGROVE — Obert Benjamin Spinks Sr., 99, of 6550 Riverside Road, Seagrove, died Wednesday (4/30/14).

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Seagrove. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

He is survived by three sons, Ben Obert Spinks Jr., James Spinks and David Spinks, all of the home; three daughters, Jewell Canty of Raleigh, and Margaret Person and Rosa S. Purgason, both of Seagrove.

SANFORD — A celebration of life for Victor Leonard Gustavson was held Friday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Ministers Wendell McGee, CRE and Rev. Ronald Stoker presiding.

Organist for the service was Carol Troutman.

Following the service, a flag presentation was made by the U.S. Navy.

SANFORD — Graveside service for Peggy Matherly Bennett of Suffolk, Va., formerly of Sanford, who died Tuesday (4/29/14), was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Shallow Well Cemetery by Pastor Robert Thomas.
