EVELYN REEVES GENTRY

SANFORD — Memorial service for Evelyn Reeves Gentry, 84, who died Saturday (10/5/13), was conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the Rev. A. Warren Gentry officiating.

Soloist was Patricia Dowdy, and the eulogy was given by Johnny Poindexter. The congregation also sang one hymn.

Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
 

SUZANNE “ZANNIE” CLEAVINGER

SANFORD — Suzanne “Zannie” Cleavinger, 81, of Carolina Trace, died Thursday (10/10/13) at Central Carolina Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later.
 

ADRIANE JENEAL NETTLES

SANFORD — Funeral service for Adriane Jeneal Nettles, 40, who died Saturday (10/5/13), was conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro with the Rev. Anthony Davis and the Rev. Ronnie Brooks officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Soloists were Karmesia McKoy and LaShonda Wofford.

Pallbearers were classmates and friends.

Arrangements were by Knotts Funeral Home.
 

MAZIE R. FARROW

SANFORD — Mazie R. Farrow, 92, of 658 Love Grove Church Road, died Monday (10/7/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She is survived by one son, Jerald L. Pearson (Carolyn) of Sanford; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Maedelle Allen of Broadway, Bobbie McNeill (Willie) of Lillington and Alice Cox (Nicholas) of Sanford; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will be at the home of a son, Jerald Pearson, 816 W. Garden St.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Love Grove AME Zion Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held today from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Watson Memorial - Cunningham & Son’s Mortuary.

SANFORD — William Leon Ellis Jr., 66, died Sunday (10/6/13) at his home.

A private service will be held at a later date.

He is survived by his sister, Linda B. Bulla.

SARAH BEATRICE WORTHY TUCK

SANFORD — Sarah Beatrice Worthy Tuck, 95, of 1140 Blackstone Road, died Tuesday (10/8/13) at home.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at Poplar Springs AME Church by the Rev. Sandra Hunter. Viewing will be at 11 a.m., family visitation will be at noon and a service will be held at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at church cemetery.

She was a member of the graduating class of 1939 at W.B. Wicker High School and Elizabeth State Teachers College and Kittrell College. She was a retired nurse at Lee County Hospital.

She is survived by four sons, Fred Tuck (Katherine) and Fredrick Tuck (Betty), all of Upper Marlboro, Md., William Tuck (Janice) of Winston-Salem and Larry Tuck (Delois) of Sanford; two daughters, Barbara T. Lovell (Charles) of Portsmouth, Va., and Alice T. Swann (Reginald) of Fayetteville; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Alice Matthews (Frank), Olivia Snipes, all of Sanford; Dorothy Worthy of Bridgeport, Conn.; two brothers, Theodore (Leola) and Toy Eugene Woodward, both of Sanford; and sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Tuck of Sanford.

KENNETH JACKSON

SANFORD — Kenneth Jackson, 67, of 2217 Dalrymple St., died Wednesday (10/9/13) at Southern Maryland Hospital.

He was a member of the graduating class of 1964 at W.B. Wicker School.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Memorial AME Church in Washington, D.C. Wake will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheteinaham, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances; one daughter, Kendra Jackson; one grandson; three sisters, Theresa Blue (Josiah) of Fayetteville, Mary Belle Moore of Infield, Conn. and Delois Carter of Hartford, Conn.; and one brother, Carver Lee Jackson (Marie) of Washington, D.C.

JOHN EDWARD THOMAS

SANFORD — Mr. John “Johnny” Edward Thomas, age 73, of Sanford, N.C., died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born in Lee County, N.C. on December 18, 1939, to the late Ervin Edward Thomas and Erma Yarborough Thomas. Mr. Thomas worked for Saco-Lowell Shops and J.S.J Plastics and was a member of Barbecue Presbyterian Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always did what he could to help others. He was an outdoorsman and loved fishing and carrying his grandson fishing. Johnny was a great lover of country, gospel, and rock-and-roll music. He enjoyed his music collection of records and tapes. He also enjoyed woodworking, NASCAR races, and watching ball games.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 52 years, Peggy Spivey Thomas; two sons, Mart Thomas and wife Christy of Broadway, Tracy Scott Thomas and wife Angie of Sanford; twin brother James Frank Thomas and wife Janet of Sanford; three sisters, Margaret Payne and husband Truby of Southern Pines, Faye Stark and husband Dennis of Pine Bluff, Lois Thompson and husband Ray of Sanford; and one grandson, Tyler John Thomas.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, October 14, at 2 p.m. at Barbecue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Sandy Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
