DORIS CATHERINE CRAIG RAPER
HIGH POINT — Doris Catherine Craig Raper passed away at the Hospice Home at High Point on December 8, 2013, surrounded by her family.
Doris was born November 10, 1921, in Chatham County, N.C., to the late James Alexander Leonard Craig and Carrie Lillian Pendergrass Craig. She spent her formative years in Sanford, N.C., graduating from Jonesboro High School in 1939. In 1940 she moved to High Point to attend the Burrus Hospital School of Nursing, forerunner to High Point Regional Hospital, graduating in September 1943. On November 20, 1943, she married Howard Marmaduke Raper who preceded her in death September 27, 1976. Doris was a dedicated Registered Nurse and a credit to her profession. She retired from her career in 1976 last working for Drs. Tyson, Cross, Cross, and Bennett for twenty-four years. Doris was a member of the Keystone Class at the First Baptist Church and active in the church throughout her life. She was a Life Master duplicate bridge player.
She is survived by two daughters, Laura Raper Stroupe Barrier and her husband William Smith Barrier of Greensboro, N.C., and Katherine Raper Hoover of Apex, N.C. Also surviving are her granddaughter, Kathleen Stroupe Lyon and husband Thomas Ingram Lyon and their daughters, Emma and Margaret of Raleigh, N.C., and step-granddaughter, Christy Barrier Moran and husband Gregory of High Point, N.C.; sisters, Lillian C. Poe of High Point, N.C., Carrie Lynn C. Smith of Sanford, N.C., and Shirley C. Mutter of Durham, N.C.; her brother, William G. Craig and his wife Mary Lou of Lake Junaluska, N.C., numerous nieces and nephews and her special adopted family, Margrit and Bernd Loewenherz of Burdgorf, Germany.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Edna Earl Craig, Jane C. Creery, James Leonard Craig, Jr., and Jack Craig; and her son-in-law, Jackson Walker Stroupe.
Her service of remembrance will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in High Point with Rev. Tom Warrington officiating. The family will receive friends for 30 minutes immediately following the service before interment at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Her family will also receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Dr., High Point, NC.

SANFORD — William Ralph “Farmer Bill” Cole, 87, died Saturday (12/7/13) at N.C. State Veterans Nursing Home in Fayetteville.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pocket Presbyterian Church by the Rev. David Dudley. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
He was born in Lee County, son of the late Colon Carl Cole and Mamie Glass Cole. He was an Army veteran of W.W. II and retired from Magneti Marelli. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Colon Cole, Andy Cole, Meta Walsh, Margaret Olgesby and Virginia Reaves.
He is survived by his daughter, Shannon C. Childress and husband Keith of Cameron, and two grandsons.

She was born in Harnett County on March 17, 1960 to Novella Maria McMillian and Elon Bailey.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cape Fear Conference Center in Erwin. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church in Lillington.
She is survived by her son, Paul Jonathan McMillian; daughter, Novella Maria McMillian; brothers, Pastor James R. McMillian Sr. (Sandra), Jimmy E. SANFORD — Margarete “Maggie” Kraus Underwood, 55, died Sunday (12/8/13) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
She was born on Sept. 20, 1958, daughter of the late Harold Kraus and Marga Pyka Kraus.
