FLOYD CALVIN JAMERSON SR.

SANFORD — Floyd Calvin Jamerson Sr., 64, of Sanford passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Beaver Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Jamerson was born in Lillington, N.C., son of the late John Robert Jamerson and Martha Juanita Wicker Jamerson. Mr. Jamerson was preceded in death by brothers Ray, Joe, Ricky, and Norman and a sister, Brenda. Mr. Jamerson was a supervisor with the Brick Yard for many years.

Mr. Jamerson is survived by his wife, Jessie Mae Blackmon Jamerson; daughters, Jessie Lynn Jamerson and Karen Renee Jamerson of Sanford; a son, Floyd Calvin Jamerson Jr. of Michigan; four brothers, Robert Bingham Jamerson Sr. and wife Lillie of Leland, N.C., Marvin David of Sanford, Leonard Jamerson and wife Wanda of Sanford, Tony Jamerson and wife Kay of Sanford; two sisters, Cathy Patterson and husband Leon of Carthage and Jean Jamerson of Sanford; three grandchildren; Brandon Scott Jamerson, Dustin Charles Jamerson and Jordon Chase Jamerson; also a great-grandchild, Conner Michael Jamerson.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Rogers Memorial Chapel.

PEGGY HAMILTON COATS

GROVELAND, FL — Peggy Hamilton Coats, 74, of Groveland, Fla., died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at her daughter’s residence in Broadway.

Peggy was the daughter of the late George Willis and Maggie Lucile Owens Hamilton. Peggy was the first baby born in Raleigh in 1939. She had retired after 30 years from Wachovia Bank.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013 at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor John Hackney officiating. Burial will follow in Flat Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, Lillington.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Everette Coats; two sons, William Lasater and wife Karen of Anderson Creek, and Michael Lasater of Holden Beach; a daughter, Cindy Buchanan and husband Craig of Broadway; one sister, Judy West and husband Douglas of Spring Lake; eight grandchildren, Christopher Michael Lasater, Emily Ann Lasater, Daniel Craig Buchanan, Kelli Brooke Buchanan, Laura Patterson, Jacob D. Melvin, Anna B. Melvin, Maggie Buchanan; and six great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Candis Evelyn McLean Carrington of East Orange, N.J., formerly of Broadway, died Saturday (7/6/13) in East Orange, N.J.

She is survived by one goddaughter; one godson; five sisters, Annie R. Gaines of East Orange, N.J., Amelia Glenn of Rochester, N.Y., Esther McAuley, Annie Mildred McIver and Lillie Lois Cotten, all of Broadway; one brother, Wallace Osby McLean of Columbus, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Thomas McAuley of Broadway, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at noon Saturday at Cameron Grove AME Zion Church in Broadway. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

THADDEUS EDWARD BLACK

VASS — Thaddeus Edward Black, 70, died Wednesday (7/10/13) at his home.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Covenant Fellowship Church in Carthage with Pastor Lee McKinney and Pastor Paul McNeill officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

He was born in Carthage on June 1, 1943, to Thad and Mary Black. He worked as a brick mason most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jonnie; three daughters, Shirley McFadyen and husband Bill, and Tammy Gaddy and husband Don, all of Cameron, and Sue McNeill and husband Daniel of Vass; two sisters, Myrtle Ratledge and Laura Bray of East Bend; one brother, James Black of Charlotte; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MURPHY DEAN BEAL

SANFORD — Murphy Dean Beal, 75, died Tuesday (7/9/13) at ManorCare of Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Cumnock Methodist Church. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Cumnock Cemetery in Cumnock.

He was born in Sanford on May 12, 1938, to Ralph and Irene Kennedy Beal. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of Cumnock Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Gina Newsome Frye and husband Scott of Carthage; and one sister, Drusilla Jolly and husband Kenneth of Winston-Salem.

WHISPERING PINES — Alma Jones, 92, died Sunday (7/14/13) at First Health Hospice in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Matthews Chapel FWB Church in Eastwood. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. A viewing will be held today from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

She is survived by one brother, Mitchell Goins, one grandson and a niece.

SANFORD — Dana Monroe, 55, died Wednesday (7/10/13).

She is survived by her son, Michael A. Monroe II of Sanford, and her daughter, Tristanna Monroe of Charlotte, and their father, Michael A. Monroe Sr.; one granddaughter; one sister, Phyllis Chalmers (Larry); eight brothers, Terry Lee (Jackie), Perry Lee (Sheryl), Carlton Andra Lee, James B. Lee, Chris Lee, Wayne Lee (Georgia), Robert Lee (Tonya) and Charles Lee; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Christian Provision Ministries.

ETHELDA PHILLIPS STUMPF

BEAR CREEK — Ethelda Phillips Stumpf, 81, of 7490 Siler City-Glendon Road, died Thursday (7/11/13) at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bob Wachs, the Rev. Roger Thomas and the Rev. Scott Walker officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

She was a Chatham County native and was a retired nurse from Chatham Hospital, where she worked for many years. She was part owner of Southern Supreme Fruitcake Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Merle Stumpf.

She is survived by daughters, Dawn Stumpf of the home, Bonnie Reynolds of Carthage and Jamie Brady and husband Rodney of Bear Creek; son, Douglas Merle Stumpf of the home; four grandchildren; sisters, Berta Lou Scott and husband Hoyte of Bear Creek, and Sue Ann Farlow and husband Frank of Raleigh; brothers, Billy Joe Phillips and Garry Phillips, both of Bear Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett and other times at her home.

SILER CITY — The Rev. Gennell Wilkerson, 75, of 57 Crestview Road, died Saturday (7/6/13) at her home.

She was a member of Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church and an ordained elder of the A.M.E. Zion Connection.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church in Siler City.

She is survived by her children, Delena Wilkerson, Bontis Mofitt, the Rev. Brenda Foxx and Anthony Wilkerson; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 1 until 3 p.m. at the church on Saturday.

RUBY ADELL FAULK MARKS

SANFORD — Ruby Adell Faulk Marks, 88, died Wednesday (7/10/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1924, in Lee County, to the late Ernest Faulk and Nettie Barbee Faulk. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Marks; a son, Jerry Marks; a daughter, Cathy Ann Marks Murchison and by several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a son, Edwin Marks and wife Pat of Cameron; daughters, Sadie Flynn and husband A.G., and Patricia Hennings and husband Jimmie, all of Cameron, and Glenda Little of Linden; a sister, Nettie Ann Smith of Vass; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery with the Rev. David Coffey officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church following the graveside service.
