LINWOOD STANFIELD MANN SR.

SANFORD — Mr. Linwood Stanfield Mann, Sr., age 85, of Sanford, NC, died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Affectionately known as “Pappy” to his family, Mr. Mann was born in Lee County on September 5, 1927 to the late Raymond Harvey Mann and Ida Lee Truelove Mann. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Payne Mann and siblings, Raymond Harvey Mann Jr., Harold Mann, Grace Bortz, Clara Ussery and Joe Mann.

He is survived by son, Linwood Stanfield Mann, Jr. and wife Brenda; daughter, Paula Mann Porter; brother, Russell Mann and wife Julia; sister-in-law, Margie Mann all of Sanford; grandchildren, Linwood “Lin” Stanfield Mann III and wife Stacey of Derry, New Hampshire, Ame Mann Cross and husband Pat of Sanford, Maggie Mann Dutton and husband Mark of Fox Fire, NC, Alan Porter and wife Rachel of Butner, Marla Tran and husband Truong of Sanford; and eight great-grandchildren, Hayden Cross, Caleb Cross, Colin Dutton, Liam Dutton, Evan Rose Waters, Grayson Waters, Alice Tran and Jaxon Tran.

Mr. Mann attended Wake Forest University, before serving our country in the Army Air Corp., during WWII. He was a member of Jonesboro United Methodist Church. Following his military service Mr. Mann worked for Virginia-Carolina Wholesale Hardware, Saco-Lowell and Roberts Company. The years 1963 through 1987 he worked alongside his family in their family business - Mann's Hardware. Following that retirement Mr. Mann went to work for Lowe's Home Improvement as a Sales Associate for 25 years, to age 85.

He was a City Councilman from 1995 to 2011 serving on the Sanford Housing Authority and Sanford/Lee County Regional Airport Authority.

The family will receive friends at Grace Chapel Church, Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and the funeral will be Sunday, July 21st at 4:00 PM at Jonesboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Hunter Preston and Dr. Rudy Holland officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery.

MILTON PALMER HARRINGTON

SANFORD — Mr. Milton Palmer Harrington, age 85, of Sanford, N.C., died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital.

He was born in Lee County on June 20, 1928, to the late Max Pell Harrington and Daisy Mansfield Harrington. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Willis and Lemuel Harrington. Mr. Harrington served our country in the United States Army and worked as a tobacco farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Johnson Harrington; son, Max C. Harrington and wife Pam of Sanford; daughter, Vicky Clark and husband Frank also of Sanford; four grandchildren, Brandon Harrington, Christopher Harrington, Jeremy Clark and Trent Clark; and one great-grandchild, Grayson Edward Harrington.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 19, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and the funeral will be Saturday, July 20th at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fallon Melvin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

MARIE LLOYD HARPER

SANFORD — Marie Lloyd Harper, age 74, of Sanford, N.C. went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Central Carolina Hospital.

Mrs. Harper was born in Lee County, N.C., on March 24, 1939, to the late William Robert Lloyd and Audrey Gilchrist Lloyd. She graduated from Sanford Central High School in 1957 and attended Lees-McRae College for one year and went on to complete her college studies through Campbell University.

Marie served as a faithful wife and mother during her husband's 21 year service career and returned to Sanford in her retirement years. Mrs. Harper was an active member of Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church and a member of the Hattie Faulk Sunday School Class. She did volunteer work for the local hospital earning a ten year service pin in 2009. She loved sports and coached little league baseball for several years. In addition, Marie played and coached a women's league softball team for over thirty years. Mrs. Harper had been working as a substitute school teacher for five years prior to her death.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Retired Major Dallas Harper; a son, Dexter Harper and wife Kelly of Sanford, N.C.; a grandson, Daniel and wife Caitlyn; a grandson, Jacob; a granddaughter, Carley; a great-grandson, Asher; a sister, Ruth Lloyd Spears of Sanford and several special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 20, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral will be Sunday, July 21, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Wood and the Rev. Gilbert McDowell officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery.

COY ATLAS BROWN

SILER CITY — Coy Atlas Brown of McLaurin Road, Siler City crossed the Great Divide Thursday morning, July 18 at his home. He was 91.

A native of Chatham County, he was a member of the Greatest Generation, serving his country as an Army-Air Corps B-24 mechanic in World War II, including a three-year tour of duty in India.

Growing up on a farm near Bennett, after his service years he devoted his life’s work to agriculture as a tractor and farm equipment salesman and business owner. In that capacity, he worked for Johnson Cotton Co. in Siler City and in Raeford. Later in life, along with two brothers and a family friend, he was part owner of Brown-Fuquay Enterprises in Siler City. After retirement from those equipment firms, he had a career as an insurance salesman and later was a contract salesman for an advertising novelty company. He was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church, where he was an usher, member of the church Brotherhood and Golden Agers and a committee member of the Don Moody Benevolent Fund.

He is survived by his daughter, Shirley B. Wachs and husband, Bob; two grandchildren, Suzanne W. Jones and husband Steve of Pittsboro and Joseph B. Wachs and wife Amanda of Bear Creek; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Elizabeth; brother, Norman and wife Mary Lea; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, Bennie and Ina Brown; wives, Lois D. Brown and Fern W. Brown; sisters, Hilda Brewer and Myrtle Teague; and brothers, Clint, Howard, Lynn, Colon and Buster.

Friends may visit with his family at Sandy Branch Baptist Church from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 19 and at other times at the home of Shirley and Bob Wachs.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. at Sandy Branch Church, conducted by the Rev. Marc Sanders, the Rev. Bob Wachs, and the Rev. Val Chadwick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

CARTHAGE — Leroy L. Wilson, 90, of Carthage died Wednesday, July 17, 2013.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Wilson was born in Harnett County, a son of the late Willie Edgar Wilson and Mattie Lee Ferguson Wilson. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mae Yow Howie Wilson and a stepson, JD Howie. Leroy enjoyed farming and was a professional house painter. In addition to his wife, Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Covert, Elsie Daniel, Dorothy Whitehead, Ola Hare, Maude Kelly and Essie Wilson; brothers, Charles Nick Wilson, Phil Wilson, Howard Wilson and Hannibal Wilson.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his daughter-in-law, Carol Howie of Carthage; two brothers, Reggie Wilson and Claiborne “Clay” Wilson of Sanford; two grandchildren, Dwayne Howie and wife Sherrie and Anita Howie Wicker, all of Carthage; special niece, Susan Lankford of Sanford and a special nephew, Chuck Daniel of Farmville, VA; four great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Beverly Taylor Gautier III, who died Monday (7/15/13), was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church by Dr. Jeff Clark and the Rev. Craig Dodson. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery.

During the service the eulogy was given by his sister, Jennifer Gautier. The congregation, led by Patricia Langston, sang and the soloist was Joe Keith. Pianist was Carole Troutman.

Pallbearers were Darren Fincher, John Freeman, Chris Hei, John Perkins, Jimmy Silverthorne Jr. and Mark Silverthorne.

She is survived by her children, Mildred Jefferson (Adolphus) of Temple Hills, Md., Carolyn Whitaker (Johnny) of Sanford, Claude Hooker of Chapel Hill, Marilyn Hooker of Alexandria, Va., Janice Hooker of Chapel Hill and Pamela Siler (James) of Sanford; one sister, Alma McCain of New Hill; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Prince Chapel CME Church in New Hill. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

SANFORD — Janet Elizabeth Derosby, 48, died Wednesday (7/17/13) at her residence.

She was born on Sept. 13, 1964, in Harnett County to James Ward Gifford and Jettie Ashley Dudak.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Bradley Derosby; three daughters, Tiffany Pitcher, Faith and Cassandra Derosby; one brother, James Ward Gifford III; and six grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Saturday from 4 until 5:30 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cunningham & Sons Mortuary in Fayetteville and from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hood Memorial AME Zion Church in Fayetteville.

Funeral service will be conducted at noon Monday at Headquarters (B) with burial at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Fayetteville.

GOLDSTON — Sidney Jay Cade, 53, died Thursday (7/18/13) at his residence.

He was born in Chatham County on July 13, 1960, the son of Parrott Junior and Colleen (Johnson) Cade. He had worked at Hadley Peoples Manufacturing as a loom operator. He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother, Colleen (Johnson) Cade of the home; two brothers, Travis Cade and wife Deborah, and Hodge Cade, all of Goldston; two nephews; one great-niece and two great-nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Goldston.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Miguel Antonio Zapata, 82, who died Monday (7/15/13), was held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Brown and the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens with full military rites.

Recorded music was played.

Pallbearers were grandsons Ricky Graham, Steven Graham, Shawn Seeley, Gary Seeley Jr., Randy Zapata and Ron Wilson.
