BRENDA JOANN GUNTER BOWLING

SANFORD — Mrs. Brenda Joann Gunter Bowling, age 65, of Sanford, N.C., died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

She was born in Lee County on August 22, 1947, to the late Robert Gunter and Evon Seawell Gunter Bray. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Lawrence; brother, Robert Gunter and sister, Cathie Snuffer.

Mrs. Bowling is survived by her husband, Hal Bowling; daughter, Pamela Lawrence Melchor and husband Ritchie of Indian Trail, N.C.; sister, Jerry Calcutt of Broadway; sister-in-law, Billie Hodgson and husband Derek of Indian Trail; two grandchildren, Makenna and Maysen Melchor; niece, Julie Muir and husband John of Washington, D.C.; and nieces and nephews, Ricky King, Candi Ellis, Robert Snuffer, Robert Gunter and Nancy Gunter.

The funeral will be conducted Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the Rev. David Yarborough presiding. Burial will follow at Shallow Well Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home (2:00 to 3:00 p.m.).

JANET ELIZABETH DEROSBY

SANFORD — Janet Elizabeth Derosby, 48, of Sanford, passed away on July 17, 2013 at her residence.

She was born on September 13, 1964 in Harnett County, N.C. to James Ward Gifford and Jettie Ashley Dudak.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Bradley Derosby; one son, Levi Derosby; three daughters, Tiffany Pitcher, Faith and Cassandra Derosby; one brother, James Ward Gifford III; also survived by six grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Saturday from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford. A memorial service will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment private.

CHESLEY R. CREECH

GOLDSTON — Chesley R. (CR) Creech, age 86, of 1594 Lakewood Falls, left us tragically on Tuesday, July 16, 2013.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Miller-Boles Funeral Home at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Joey Green officiating. Burial will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens in Raleigh, N.C.

A native of Durham, N.C., he lived most of his life in Lee and Chatham County. He was the son of the late James Willis Creech and Kate Merrit Creech. He was preceded in death by 11 sisters and brothers.

Those he left to cherish his memory are his wife: Shirley Ann Peed Creech and their daughter, Carolyn A. Creech both of Goldston, N.C. He also leaves daughters: Amy Grayson of Raleigh, N.C. and Tammy Lynn Wiseman of Utica, Ohio; seven grandchildren also survive him.

He led a very active life, owning and operating a dairy farm for 20 years, developing property, getting to know those he encountered, and sharing his stories. He was especially proud of his pet property development of Lakewood Falls. Many in the surrounding counties of Chatham and Lee knew CR and his wit, his keen business sense, the twinkle in his eye, and his boyish smile.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.

VICTOR GLENDON JOHNSON

SANFORD — Victor Glendon Johnson, 70, of the Deep River community, died Thursday (7/18/13) at Central Carolina Hospital.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Houston Blair officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

He was a 1960 graduate of Deep River High School. He was a member of the Columbus Masonic Lodge #102 in Pittsboro and the Order of the Eastern Star Jonesboro Chapter 310.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Johnson; daughter, Robin Davis of Pittsboro; one grandson; sister, Brooks Johnson of Lillington; and several cousins.

THOMAS WATTS CAMPBELL JR.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Thomas Watts “T.W.” Campbell Jr., 81, who died Tuesday (7/16/13) at his home, was conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Barbecue Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Alexander B. “Sandy” Williams presiding. Tartan bearer was Tom Williams. Burial followed at the church cemetery with military rites.

Organist was Dorothy Hales and pianist was Nancy Holmes. Vocalists were Tony Baker, Alex Oakman and Rene Oakman. The congregation also sang.

Pallbearers were Ryan Haag, Jimmy Thomas, Mike Thomas, Andrew Sullivan, Jacob Oakman and Eddie Holder.

DAVID LEE TOUVELL

SANFORD — David Lee Touvell, 77, died Thursday (7/18/13) at home.

He was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, son of the late Byron Touvell and Dorothy Secrest Touvell. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, served several years in the National Guard and was a construction superintendent for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pauline Gray Touvell; daughter, Linda T. McNeill (Ronald) of Sanford; sons, David Lee Touvell Jr. (Lisa) of Kernersville, and Ronald Allen Touvell (Terry) of Graham; sisters, Elaine T. Tucker of Lore City, Ohio, and Debra Honeywell of West Jefferson; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

There will be no services, but the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.

EVERETT WILLIAM JONES SR.

BROADWAY — Everett William Jones Sr., 66, died Tuesday (7/16/13) at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

He was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., son of the late Clark Jones and Alice Elizabeth Everett Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 12 p.m. Wednesday at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with Father Robert Ippolito officiating.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia Jones; daughters, Brigit Ann Stephens (David) of Lillington and Christina Jones of Broadway; sons, Everett William “Billy” Jones Jr. and Paul Scott Jones, both of Lillington, Scott Everett Jones of North Port, N.Y., and Richard James Jones of Garner; sisters, Marlene Walsh (Thomas) of Sanford, Peggy Breene of Greenlawn, N.Y., and Linda Jones of East Northport, N.Y.; brother, Henry Jones of Manorville, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

TIMOTHY WAYNE CHALFLINCH

CARTHAGE — Timothy “Timbo” Wayne Chalflinch, 54, died Friday (7/19/13) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church in Robbins, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dr. Bill Cooper, the Rev. Brad Harrison, the Rev. Robert L. Kidd and the Rev. Eldon Hinegardner officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, and a past member of the Robbins Rescue Squad. He worked for many years as a paramedic with FirstHealth of the Carolinas and later with Speer Concrete. He also owned/operated his own business, Timbo’s Pressure Washing. He was a son of the late Ben and Evelyn Richey Chalflinch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Chalflinch.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Karen Purvis Chalflinch; sister, Linda Daggerhart and husband Phillip of Carthage; brother, Patrick Chalflinch of Robbins; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kennedy Funeral Home and other times at the home.
