NICHOLAS MACPHERSON LAWRENCE
SANFORD — Nicholas MacPherson Lawrence was called back home by his heavenly Father on October 12, 2013. He is reunited with loved ones and is now eternally a free spirit. It was a peaceful passing with his family and extended family (care givers) by his side.
Nicholas was born January 20, 1980. He was a graduate of Floyd L. Knight School and a long time participant of Special Olympics. He was an outdoors man. Some of his hobbies were listening and mimicking bird calls, and he loved the companionship of a dog. He attended WWE Wrestling Matches and Hurricane Hockey games. He loved music and dancing. Nicholas was a strong family man and people person.
Nicholas was best known for his charismatic personality, smiling eyes, teasing sense of humor, and as a strong catalyst for innovations. He touched a multitude of hearts and will be truly be missed.
Nicholas is survived by his mother Jan Lawrence; his father Robert Lawrence; his sister Ashley Lawrence; a niece Francesca Lawrence; paternal grandmother Isabel Lawrence; maternal grandmother Theresa MacPherson; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
We would like special recognition to the loving staff at Alpine Cottage who spoiled Nic rotten.

A visitation will be held at Miller-Boles Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at Buffalo Cemetery on Fire Tower Road on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 2 p.m.

LILLIE MARGARET PEARSON
SANFORD — Lillie Margaret Pearson, age 72, of Sanford died Sunday (October 13, 2013) at her home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Sanford conducted by the Rev. Craig Dodson. Burial will follow in Union Grove FWB Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
A native of Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Evander and Margaret Elizabeth Phillips Pearson.
Lillie lived and worked for many years in White Plains, N.Y. before moving back to North Carolina. She retired as a physical therapist from Burke Rehabilitation Center in White Plains and had also received her masters degree in theology.
She is survived by her son Stuart Pearson of Sanford; two sisters Mary Johnson and husband Julius of Ruffin, N.C., Dannie Pearson of Sanford; two aunts, Lugene Person of Carthage and Mae Person of Carthage; nephew Julius Johnson Jr. and wife Tabitha of Las Vegas, Nev.; niece Millicent Johnson; and many cousins and friends.

SANFORD — Suzanne (Zannie) Cleavinger went to be with her Lord on Thursday (10/10/13) after a 6 1/2 year struggle with emphysema.
She was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on June 5, 1932. After high school, she attended Stevens College in Columbia, Mo. for one year. She then attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., graduating in 1955 with a degree in Sociology. While at KU, she met Hal, who would become the love of her life. They married on November 24, 1954 and cherished 58 years together as soulmates. She was a devoted wife and mother, being involved in all phases of family life. Her family was her life work.
Zannie is survived by her husband, Hal; four children, Kristi of Carbondale, Kan., Rus of Goshen, Ind., Susan (Scott) of Greensboro, N.C. and Teri (Mary) of Boone, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Zach, Sarah and Daniel.
Zannie loved life, living it to the fullest, always giving thanks to the Lord for his gift of each and every day.
A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, October 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Jonesboro United Methodist Church, Sanford, N.C. There will be a reception luncheon at Carolina Trace Country Club at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Carolina Trace Country Club Commemorative Fund, The Salvation Army, or charity of choice.
JOFFRE LANCE JOHNSON JR.
BROADWAY — Joffre Lance Johnson Jr., 69, died Friday (10/11/13).
He was born in Guilford County on Jan. 24, 1944, son of the late Joffre Lance Johnson and Ruby Rowena Turner Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and enjoyed playing the guitar and loved music.
Graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Broadway Town Cemetery with the Rev. Elton Bryan officiating.
Surviving are his sisters, Patsy J. Payne (Robert) and Margaret J. Lemons (Jerry), all of Broadway, and Brenda J. Bordwell, Rachel J. Pattishall (Douglas) and Faye J. Conklin, all of Sanford; brothers, Richard Johnson (Diane), Lonnie Johnson (Shirley and Clint Johnson, all of Broadway; Jerry Johnson (Judy) and Glenn R. Johnson (Gloria), all of Sanford; and Allen T. Johnson (Claudia) of Durham; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. today, prior to the service at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.

LILLINGTON — Rebecca Baker Milton, 63, died Saturday (10/12/13) at her home.
A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Gene and Mary Bethea Baker. She worked with the Harnett County school system, retiring as the Testing Coordinator, serving over 35 years.
Funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. today at the Lillington Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. William Goodnight officiating. Burial will be at Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

MARTHA JULE CAUSEY
SANFORD — Funeral service for Martha Jule Causey, 67, of the Deep River Community, who died Wednesday (10/9/13), was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Zion Christian Church with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
Pianist and organist were Gerri Hearn and Becky Johnson. The Zion Christian Church Choir sang and the Rev. Steve Johnson sang a solo. The trio consisting of Van Johnson, Teresa Pilson and Eddie Gunter sang one song and the congregation sang two hymns.
Pallbearers were Adam Gunter, Evan Gunter, Joel Johnson, Edwin Johnson, Jeff Crisco, Gary Ammons and Daryl Ammons.
Members of the Zion Christian Church Calvary Sunday School Class and members of the Deep River High School graduating class of 1964 sat together as a group.

PITTSBORO — Cleatis Marsh, 84, of 80 Sarahs Lane, died Saturday (10/12/13) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
He is survived by children, Brother Peacemaker and Jacqueline D. Marsh, both of Durham; Brenda M. Headen (Coy) and Grady D. McKinney, all of Pittsboro; and Joyce M. Marsh of Austell, Ga.; two brothers, Oliver Marsh and Charles Marsh, both of Pittsboro; a sister, Mexie Burnette of Pittsboro; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro. Wake will be held from 2:30 until 3 p.m. prior to the funeral.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Lucille Sexton Hayes was held Sunday at Miller-Boles Chapel with the Rev. Mark Klass and the Rev. Barry House officiating. Special music was played and two solos were sung by pianist Rev. Dorothy Klass.
Pallbearers for the service were Kenneth Garrett, Irvin Garrett, Jake Stanley, Aaron Stanley, Eduardo DeLacruz and Mike Casey.
Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens.

CAMERON — Betty Davis Phillips, 82, died Sunday (10/13/13) at Peak Resource – Pinelake in Carthage.

A native Moore County, she was a daughter of the late James Irvin Davis and Lula Alma Wilhoit Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Phillips, and brothers, Fred Davis and Wilbert Davis.
She is survived by sons Randy Lankford of Robbins, and Gary Lankford and Johnny Lankford, both of Carthage; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Betty Perry Luxton, 80, died Monday (10/14/13) at her home.
She was born on Sept. 30, 1933, daughter of the late Frank Perry and Columba Carter Perry. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Hayden Leo Luxton; siblings Velma Edmonds, Rosco Alford, Teat Alford, H.B. Alford, Herbert Alford, Nallie Alford, Brodie Perry and Bobby Perry.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lee’s Chapel Christian Church with the Rev. Bruce Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
She is survived by her daughters, Alicia “Lisa” Martin (David) and Renee L. Cotton (Keith), all of Sanford; son Hayden Perry Luxton (Dana) of Sanford; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Lee’s Chapel Church and immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
