WILLIE EUGENE ELLIS
PITTSBORO — Willie Eugene Ellis, 87, formerly of Sanford, died Wednesday (10/16/13) at The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
He was born in Chatham County on April 9, 1926. He was one of 11 children born to John and Edna Johnson Ellis. He retired from Federal Paperboard Company (now International Paper). Following his retirement, he worked part-time for Hardees. He was a member of Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ozzie Jones Ellis; a son, James Eugene Ellis; and five sisters and brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Beal of Sanford; sons, Thomas Ellis of Bear Creek and Luke Ellis of Siler City; sisters, Fay Tisdale of Siler City and Ann Ring of Greensboro; brothers, James Ellis and Grady Ellis, both of Sanford, and Burnice Ellis of Bynum; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Ellen Bender and the Rev. Ray Gooch presiding. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

WEST END — Lair Brower died Sunday (10/13/13) at her home.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Peters Deliverance Church in Southern Pines.

She is survived by her husband, Willie Brower; three daughters, Yolanda Capel, LaShonda Capel and Brittany Brower; one son, LaFrazier Capel (Melody); mother, Nellie Capel; five grandchildren, five sisters and one brother.

FAYETTEVILLE — Rev. Lovern Hicks Small, 67, of 538 Williwood Road, died Monday (10/14/13) at Wake Medical Center in Cary.
Funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville with the Rev. Dr. John D. Fuller Sr. officiating. A private interment will be held at Hicks Family Cemetery in Linden.
Surviving are one son, Horace Thomas II; one daughter, Jazzmine Vernae; two granddaughters; and three sisters, Mary Dean of Sanford, and Dorothy Waller (James) and Rose Ferguson, of Fayetteville.

ELIZABETH SCOTT NEVILLE
HILLSBOROUGH — Elizabeth Scott Neville, 88, of Orange County, died Tuesday (10/15/13) at Brookshire Nursing Center.
She was proceeded in death by a son, David Lee Neville.
She is survived by two daughters, Lucy (Bob) of Carrboro and Linda (Randy) of Chapel Hill; two sons, Morrison (Kishia) of Atworth, Ga., and Marion of Chapel Hill; a sister in-law, Cora Jiggitt of Madison, N.J.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. Wake will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. before the funeral. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

DURHAM — Purcell Suitt, 70, of 1019 Buchanan Blvd., died Thursday (10/10/13) at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at Word of Faith in Durham. The wake will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the church with the funeral beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery in Chapel Hill.

THOMAS WAYNE SMITH
SILER CITY — Thomas "Tommy" Wayne Smith, 69, of 416 W. Tenth St., died Wednesday (10/16/13).
He was born in Randolph County on Aug. 12, 1944, the son of Glenn Thomas and Hazel (Black) Smith. He had retired from Mountaire Farms in maintenance. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Brenda (Bell) Smith; two sisters, Brenda Albright and Glenda Smith, both of Liberty; and one nephew.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City with the Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating.
