HOLLY, MI — Brenda Jo Bougsty, married to Larry Bougsty on April 26, 1970, was born Brenda Jo Castleberry, June 13, 1943 in Lee County, NC died Wednesday, July 16, 2014.

Educated at Campbell College in North Carolina, she taught gymnastics and physical education and despite being paralyzed in a 1974 auto accident, participated and medaled in Wheel Chair Olympics, and continued impacting people with her active life. Serving God from her wheel chair with husband Larry, she was involved in Extension Home Makers, and led AWANA Youth Programs in both Davisburg and Faith Churches for over 35 years. Even after being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1989, they cared for and encouraged people in homes, hospitals and prison ministry, changing and impacting countless lives for another 25 years.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Carey Newton Castleberry Sr. and Juanita Crowder Castleberry; and brothers, Carey Newton Castleberry Jr. and Robert Franklin Castleberry.

Brenda is survived by her husband Larry of Holly, MI; sisters, Alice Jean Miller and husband Jerry of Cary, NC; Joyce Griffin and husband Arthur (Ralph) of Gainesville, VA; Rita Leinbach and husband Bill of Winston-Salem, NC; Bobbie Baker and husband Wilbur of Sanford, NC; sisters-in-law, Shirley Castleberry of Sanford, NC; Evelyn Castleberry King of Cary, NC; and many other beloved family members in North Carolina.

Memorial service was held Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 1 p.m., at Faith Church, 3411 Airport Rd, Waterford, MI. Burial service was held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at Great Lakes Memorial Cemetery, Holly, MI.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Thomas Bernard Sykes Jr., 43, who died Monday (7/28/14), was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Works For Christ Christian Center with the Rev. Dr. Cathy Jones officiating. Burial was at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Musician was Frederick Berryman. Soloists were Thurman Hemmitt, Silas Newby and Brittany Yarborough.

Pallbearers were Charlie White, Jerome Womack, Eli Perry, Zane Marks, Major Carlton Lyles, Tyrone Crawford and Epstine Graham.

Honorary pallbearers were Kevin White, Charles White, Carlos White, Reggie Cox, Weldon Walker, Vernon Blue and Donald Mitchell.

Arrangements were by Knotts Funeral Home.


SANFORD — Funeral service for James Lyles, 65, who died Tuesday (7/29/14), was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Poplar Springs AME Zion Church with the Rev. Dr. Saundra Bullock-Hunter officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

The church choir sang and the Rev. Curtis Boykins was soloist.

Pallbearers were friends of the family.

LILLINGTON — Jeffrey Lloyd George, 21, of Lillington died Wednesday (7/30/14) at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

He was born in Sanford, the son of Lloyd George Jr. and Tami Coombs Carter. He was currently employed with Smithfield Packing Company in Clinton.

Funeral service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel in Lillington with Tommy Nipper officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of his father, Lloyd George.

He is survived by his fiancee, Brittany Dean of Lillington; father, Lloyd George Jr. of Lillington; mother, Tami Carter of Fayetteville; sisters, Samantha George of Fayetteville and Cristina McMasters of Lillington; paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Maria George of Lillington; and four aunts.

Memorials may be made to the family to assist with expenses.

SANFORD — Imogene Price Eaton, 62, of Sanford, died Friday (8/1/14) at her home.

She was born on Sept. 5, 1951, in Henry County, Va., to the late James Price and Lulia Murdock Price. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis West.

She is survived by her husband, David Eldridge Eaton; two sons, Mark Barber and wife Crystal, and Nicholas Eaton and wife Missy, all of Sanford; a daughter, Lindsay Eaton of Sanford; brothers, Alfred Price and wife Kay of Sanford, Larry Price and wife Janie of Virginia and Marvin Price and wife Ruth of Stuart, Va.; sisters, Ella Owen and husband Thomas, Judy Cobler and husband Kenny, and Frances Mullins and husband Jack, all of Virginia; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the memorial service.
