DANIEL H. WOOTEN
SANFORD — Daniel H. Wooten, 82, of Sanford, died Thursday (8/14/14) at Liberty Commons.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Greater Zion Holy Temple.
He is survived by three children, Louis (Diane), Cynthia and Barbara; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home.
VIRGINIA BELLE ODOM GASTER MORRIS
SANFORD — Virginia Belle Odom Gaster Morris, 97, of Sanford, died Friday (8/15/14) at her granddaughter’s home.
She was born in Chatham County on Feb. 15, 1917 to the late Chafin Alton Odom and Irene Elizabeth Harden Odom. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Carlton R. Gaster; her second husband, Rev. Roy Morris; her sons, Harry O. Gaster and David Morris; her brothers, Louis Odom, Robert H. Odom and Albert W. Odom; and her sister, Mae Whittle. She worked at UNC Chapel Hill as a Student Health Services Coordinator. She was a member of East Sanford Baptist Church and worked with the Girl Scouts for 17 years and Cub Scouts for three years.
She is survived by her son, Marvin E. Gaster of Sanford; stepdaughter, Miriam Morris Hudson and husband Sam of Raleigh; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today (8/17/14) at East Sanford Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Gibson, Rev. Chris Humphries and Minister of Music William Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Shallow Well Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to the funeral service in the Sanctuary of East Sanford Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to East Sanford Baptist Church Building Fund or Liberty Home Care and Hospice in Sanford.
SADIE MAE EDWARDS AYERS
ABERDEEN — Sadie Mae Edwards Ayers, 90, of Aberdeen, died Friday (8/15/14) at Trinity Village Nursing Home in Hickory.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday (8/17/14) at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Aberdeen with Pastor Horace Warwick officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
She was born in Raeford on June 3, 1924, to Arthur and Alma Edwards. She spent her working career with Proctor Silex.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Abernathy; sister, Mary; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Esker Ayers; her parents, Arthur and Alma Edwards; son, Leroy Ayers; five sisters and two brothers.

WILLIAM BRYANT STRICKLAND JR.
BUNNLEVEL — William Bryant Strickland, Jr., 48, of Bunnlevel died Friday (8/15/14) at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington.
He was born in Lee County, the son of William Bryant Strickland Sr. and Helen Mason Strickland.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday (8/21/14) at Spring Hill United Methodist Church in Lillington with Rev. Terry Williams and Rev. James Gaulden officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
He is survived by his sister, Sandra Tigrett and husband Jerry; two uncles; two nieces; a nephew; four great-nephews and four great-nieces.

SANFORD — Gertrude Jones Baker of Sanford died Friday (8/15/14).
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday (8/18/14) at Rogers Memorial Chapel. The family will greet friends beginning at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Fork Christian Church Cemetery.
She was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late Coy and Vera Chandler Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Baker; sisters, Elizabeth Venable and Gladys Cothran; and brother, Jimmy Jones.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, who took care of her, Patsy and husband Russell Doby; Gloria and husband Tom Fulcer; Murnice Venable; Shirley Ellis; and Randy and Ruby Jones; sister, Estelle Hall; and sister-in-law, Barbara Jones.

KENNETH RAYMOND ROGERS
CORNELIUS — A celebration of life for Kenneth Raymond Rogers, 65, of Cornelius, was held Wednesday (8/13/14) at 1 p.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius.
A graveside service was held Saturday (8/16/14) at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sanford with Rev. Chris Humphries officiating.
Recorded music was played at the graveside.
Pallbearers were Mike Rich, Ethan Rogers, Jimmy Thomas, Tim Watson and Randy Watson.

LEDA REID WINGFIELD
ROANOKE, VA — Leda Reid Wingfield, of Roanoke, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014.
She was born in Botetourt County on August 18, 1919 to James Emmett Owen Reid and Roberta Henderson Reid. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Leda graduated from National Business College and for over 30 years was the secretary/bookkeeper of Waldron Realty Company. She was a long time member of Riverdale Baptist Church, having served as church treasurer and worked with the youth and Girl Scouts.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Kathryn St. Clair of Sanford, NC and Pamela Vaughan (Kenneth) of Blue Ridge, VA; grandchildren: Amy St. Clair of Winterville, NC, Aaron Vaughan (Anne) of Floyd, VA, Jennifer Haddock (Trey) of Greenville, NC and Sarah Vaughan of Roanoke, VA; great-grandchildren: Autumn and Gabriel Vaughan of Floyd, VA and Joyner and Reid Haddock of Greenville, NC; special niece Martha Gray of Buchanan, VA; and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 3-6 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
