SHERWOOD THOMAS

FLORIDA & NC — Mr. Sherwood Thomas, age 86, of Lake Okeechobee, Florida, formerly of Sanford, NC, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Hospice of Okeechobee.

Mr. Thomas was born in Lee County, NC on August 6, 1926 to the late Vonnie M. Thomas and Olivia Johnson Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Thomas and W.F. “Pete” Thomas. He attended Deep River School and was a member of Zion Christian Church. He worked many years in construction in the Chicago area and lived for many years following in Florida. He served our country in the Merchant Marines and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Thomas of Florida; one brother, Ted Thomas and wife Fran of Deep River; and four nieces and nephews, Kathy Thomas and Mike Thomas of Addison, IL, Bill Thomas and wife Carol of Sanford and Ricky Thomas and wife Susie of Sanford.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

LILLIAN HOLT PALMER

MONCURE — Mrs. Lillian Holt Palmer, 80, of Moncure, N.C. died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

Mrs. Palmer was born on April 29, 1932, in Chatham County, N.C., to the late Clarence Alton Holt and Blanche Partin Holt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Martin Palmer, Jr. and by three infant siblings.

Mrs. Palmer was a member of Buckhorn United Methodist Church. She was active in the church, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher for over fifty years and President of the United Methodist Women of the Church. She was a member of the Moncure Ladies Fire Auxiliary and was active in all community projects. Mrs. Palmer was well known for her sewing abilities and for her love of family and community. She loved to cook and take food to others. She was well known for her famous peanut brittle. She retired from Lufkin in 1991.

She is survived by two sons, Marty Palmer and wife Becky of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Rick Palmer of Wilmington, N.C.; three daughters, Pam Wilder and husband Tom of Sanford, N.C., Pat Parker and husband Donald of Pittsboro, N.C. and Leigh Ann Truelove and husband Eddie of Sanford, N.C.; a brother, Alton Holt of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a sister, Myrtle Horton of New Hill, N.C.; eleven grandchildren: Michael, William, Elizabeth, Jill, and Shane Palmer, Amanda Hall and Ashley Parker, Nicole Hazelett, Jessica Wilder, Taylor Truelove, and Samuel Truelove; and five great-grandchildren: Alyssa Palmer, Michael Palmer, Jr., Gabe Kelly, Aidan Castro, and Marshall Hall.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 16, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Buckhorn United Methodist Church in Corinth, N.C. with Rev. Shay Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

INGE KRUEMMEL THOMPSON

FAYETTEVILLE — Inge (Kruemmel) Thompson departed this life April 13, 2013 on short notice.

She was born in 1935 in Breslau, Germany and spent her early years as a W.W. II refuge in Europe. Inge met her husband of 57 years in Wiesbaden, Germany. Together they enjoyed the travels, challenges and adventures of military life. Inge loved being an Air Force wife, the beach, needlecraft, cooking, crossword puzzles, and raising their four children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Heinrich and Irene Kruemmel; her husband, Col. (ret) Ralph Thompson, and daughter-in-law, LTC (ret) Linda Thompson.

She is survived by her children, LTC (ret) Gordon Thompson, LCDR (ret) Pete Thompson (Andrea), LTC (ret) Tom Thompson (Lesa), and Lt. Col. (ret) Irene Thompson (Stephan), eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She will be missed by her family and friends.

JANIECE KELLER LOWE

SILER CITY — Janiece Keller Lowe, 94, of Sam Lowe Road, died Friday (4/12/13) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

She was born in Chatham County on Feb. 2, 1919, the daughter of Murphy and Susie (Cooper) Keller. She was a homemaker, a member of Rocky River Friends Meeting and the Believers Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel B. Lowe; brothers, Garland and Carlos Keller; and sisters, Gertrude Wicker and Inez Moon.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda L. McPherson and husband Jimmy, and Shirley L. Williams and husband Bobby, all of Siler City; two sons, Wayne Lowe and wife Pat, and James Lowe and wife Sylvia, all of Siler City; two sisters, Nannie Mae Hinshaw of Siler City and Lottie Carter of Liberty; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at Rocky River Friends Meeting in Siler City with David Hobson and Jim Folks officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Lewis Cooper Yow, 79, who died Wednesday (4/10/13) was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Wendell McGee and the Rev. Betty Sherrod officiating. Burial followed at Buffalo Cemetery.

Soloists were Bill Gross and David Almond. Pianist and organist was David Almond. The congregation sang.

Pallbearers were Keith Taylor, Jeremy Taylor, Charles Dull, Tony Patterson, Mark Childress and Nathan Cotten. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Lions Club, employees of the City of Sanford Water Plant and Lewis's Ball Team.

SANFORD — Family graveside service for Joseph Roger Bowden, 95, who died Friday (4/12/13), was held Monday at 11 a.m. at Erwin Chapel Church Cemetery with the Rev. James Bowden officiating. Eulogy was by Capt. Jim McGovern, USN. Emily McGovern read a poem she wrote.

Soloists were Kate McGovern and Bobby Barbour.

MONCURE — Funeral service for Arthur Samuel Smith, 59, who died Sunday (4/7/13), was held at 2 p.m. Monday at Knotts Funeral Home in Pittsboro with the Rev. Claudia Green officiating.

CHAPEL HILL — Funeral service for John Robert Baldwin Jr., 95, who died Thursday (4/11/13), was held at 3 p.m. Monday at Terrell’s Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro with the Rev. Don C. Copeland and the Rev. Walter Cotten officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Soloist was Walter Hatcher.

Pallbearers were nephews and friends.
